That's another great point. And the general trend (ignoring the peaks of releases) is trending upward which is especially rare on Steam.
Do you enjoy similar games (vast open worlds, resource collection/management, crafting)?
I think facts would be helpful for this discussion:
1. Total Revenue - ~$500m-$700m
2. Copies Sold - ~15-20m
3. Steam Review Score: 84.36%
4. 40 Free Major Updates
I don't know where the negative comments are coming from.
Maybe players who played early.
NMS is a great example of a developer who was devoted to their customer base, kept updating the game for free, and saw great market success in return.
This is a story to be celebrated.
Do you see this as different than the example I gave of a health influencer promoting a health powder with false claims?
What is a fraudulent ad?
If a massive health influencer promotes a "healthy" powder that in labs does not show health benefits - do we consider it a fraudulent ad?
Hmmm... this is literally the intro of the narrative arc in the game that I'm making.
Governments confiscating 3D Printers, powerful GPUs, robotic parts to prevent "simple people" the access to "dangerous technologies".
For their own good of course.

I'd claim that the relative success they have so far is a result of them using these tactics.
Thanks for pointing to this. Wasn't familiar with this one but it is a great example of using the "signature" tactic.
Thanks for expanding on that kcl.
I wish I could go into that depth in the article :)

Mmmm... that's an interesting approach. I think it's perfectly fine for creating quick jpg mockups but I wouldn't use it for the real app for two reasons:
1. Attribution.
2. Differentiation is design.
Great post. In our strategy, UX is the most important ingredient for success. We live by the broader term of UX. In sjobs words: "Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works."
We are a web based company and our mix includes: zendesk, get satisfaction, github, campaign monitor, new relic.
