Re:European RISC-V Industrial Computing Initiative on Tuesday November 03, 2026 @04:27AM (#50349831)
RISC architecture is about as old as x86
Europeans are totally capable of fucking up themselves. In this particular case, it was Danfoss, which is a Danish company
Multiple sources confirm that it's the same Danfoss problem this time, for example, https://www.hln.be/binnenland/centrum-voor-cybersecurity-bev... (in Dutch)
What governments do is, generally, much more important than what they say. And what they're doing here is moving in the direction of restriction
I thought it was common knowledge that people with darker skin living further from the Equator have a higher chance of getting vitamin D deficiency and should take supplements. Just like people with lighter skin living closer to the Equator have a higher chance of getting skin cancer and should apply additional sun protection. We have all these adaptations for a reason
The location of the servers matters only if you're trying to prevent physical access, for anything else it's completely irrelevant
Re:What Happened to the Neanderthals? on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @04:48AM (#50270758)
> No, this is pure speculation

What is? Shared cultural ancestry between the people speaking early Sanskrit and many of their European counterparts is common knowledge at least since the 19th century, it's very well researched and not really contested at this point.

Re:What Happened to the Neanderthals? on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @03:48AM (#50270372)
Those myths and legends are old enough to contain traces of shared Indo-European beliefs, so the real old stuff should be found, in some form, in other cultures, like Greek or Norse mythology. But I don't think it is true in this case
Re:What Happened to the Neanderthals? on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @02:37AM (#50269931)
You forgot the "2 = 5" one
Dinosaurs are a bad analogy, they died out through no fault of their own, it was sheer bad luck. There was absolutely nothing they could do
Maybe Libya should bomb the shit out of France this time?

What app? In the Netherlands, where wero originated as iDeal, I've always used it via my bank's app. Isn't it how it's supposed to work?

Re:Composite objects and C++26 the std:polymorphic type on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @03:15AM (#50177136)
15 years ago I would've been happy reading about all these cool new things coming to C++, nowadays I'm happy I don't use it anymore and don't need to relearn everything again. Am I getting old?
Re:US threatens Europe over Starlink restrictions on Sunday October 18, 2026 @05:47PM (#50145815)
Dude, he was a literal German Nazi, the weapons he made were killing US and allied soldiers and civilians during the WWII
Re:US threatens Europe over Starlink restrictions on Sunday October 18, 2026 @04:55PM (#50145389)
Wait till you hear about Wernher von Braun
That could consume as much, if not more, resources as returning real data
Those are completely extinct, they were not the same lions that roam African savanna. It's too late
Re:Why Math Dumped OpenAI on Saturday October 17, 2026 @04:32AM (#50129092)
"My world is changing and I don't like it"

OpenAI really could handle the whole situation better, and it's perfectly fine to call them out on that, but it's not what this piece is about, it's just another AI rant

Re:RPKI now protects 70% of internet routes on Friday October 16, 2026 @01:29AM (#50114442)
It's already happening, you cannot access the websites of many sanctioned Russian entities without trusting a Russia-issued root CA. The fragmentation of the Internet is already in motion
Re:Ask HN: What is the current trajectory of a senior engineer? on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @06:55AM (#50085603)
I'm almost 40, but nowhere close to being able to retire and enjoy the rest of my life, which is, I hope, going to be at least another 40 years. It's going to be a fun ride
Re:Hittite royal archive found in Turkey on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @08:13AM (#50070442)
The languages aren't even related. Hittite is an Indo-European language, closer related to English than Turkish
But what about cancer? The cell still has the same DNA, so it will keep accumulating mutations over its extended lifetime, right?
Re:Citroen revives the 2CV for an electric age on Monday October 12, 2026 @12:28PM (#50058783)
Aren't EVs large because of the battery?
Re:Citroen revives the 2CV for an electric age on Monday October 12, 2026 @12:24PM (#50058714)
Oh, so that's why I cannot see any difference between a Mini and Ford F150?
Re:3rd Yandex Cloud Data Center Was Hit on Sunday October 11, 2026 @04:34AM (#50040911)
My information may be outdated, but the others are much smaller and less relevant
Re:3rd Yandex Cloud Data Center Was Hit on Sunday October 11, 2026 @04:15AM (#50040757)
From a purely engineering perspective, this and the destroyed AWS datacenters in the Middle East show an interesting trend. How will it affect the way future datacenters and services hosted in them are built? Will we see a rise in decentralized systems and much larger networks of smaller DCs?
Re:3rd Yandex Cloud Data Center Was Hit on Sunday October 11, 2026 @04:09AM (#50040707)
They only have 3. At least, the main ones
Re:PVX-001: open-source Covid-19 vaccine starts Phase 1 trial on Saturday October 10, 2026 @01:00PM (#50034824)
But that's not what the word "open-source" means
Re:PVX-001: open-source Covid-19 vaccine starts Phase 1 trial on Saturday October 10, 2026 @12:46PM (#50034665)
What does it even mean for a vaccine to be open-source?
