Love Vimium! It's easy to ignore sites where you want to use their native keybindings, which is nice.

Ask HN: How big of a step forward is ChatGPT?

I, like so many others have been very impressed by ChatGPT. I'm a software engineer who has some understanding of deep learning, but my day to day work is far outside of the AI field. So I'm not up to date on the current state of chat bots, speech synthesis, etc. I'm wondering how big of a step forward or breakthrough ChatGPT is compared to the state of the art from a year or a few months ago?

I believe prisons in part serve the purpose to keep us in check. With the threat of prison, society is encouraged to police itself. As another comment in this thread mentioned, Foucault helped to develop these sort of ideas and describes the motivations and development of the prison system in his work.
I didn't know many of these! Thanks
Re:Using the same Arch Linux installation for a decade on Tuesday August 16, 2022 @06:24PM (#32489772)
I've had the same Arch installation running since Spring 2020 on a desktop from 2012 or so. It's not my daily driver, but still works just fine. Even with some long periods between updates, I don't recall any serious stability issues.
Always loved Calvin and Hobbes.Love it even more because of this.

Very true, lots of fun distributed systems problems can be found working in infrastructure for FAANG companies.
One of my all time favorite YouTube videos is a lecture by William Byrd. I find myself still coming back to this video, it was so fascinating to me as an undergrad. https://youtu.be/OyfBQmvr2Hc
