Did you get it back? The reddit post was deleted it seems. What happened?

That video helps explain one property one of the UFO videos (the rotation) but doesn't explain the rest. Doesn't explain the Tic Tac videos. It does not explain why these were observed on radar as well.

While some of the videos have explanation, I would kindly encourage you to look at this with more curiosity.

YOu're graphing a random walk with a single black swan event (2008 crash). A more honest graph would just have the day/night delta mapped out, not integrated in.
Re:Meet “Claude”: Anthropic’s Rival to ChatGPT on Wednesday January 18, 2023 @03:03AM (#34424459)
The response takes a long time to generate. The user could just sit there and stare at a blank response, or start reading in realtime as the response is generated.
Re:Ask HN: What happened to Magic, the text-message concierge? on Wednesday January 04, 2023 @03:51PM (#34251358)
I just did a google search of her name. Ran into a website from a former client lamenting she'd stolen his identity, lamenting there wasn't much that he could do about it and warning others.
Could you help me understand what it means to "pump entropy out of a system"?

I asked ChatGPT and it claims "It is generally not possible to "pump" entropy out of a system in the same way that it can be added to a system. This is because the second law of thermodynamics states that the total entropy of a closed system will always tend to increase over time."

I signed up for their service, was assigned a virtual agent. I did some background check on the person assigned to me and found she had stolen cc details & funds from a customer of hers in the past.

Nothing you can do when you're in the US and the person that stole from you is in the philippines.

I also have this issue. Have noticed it often happens when interacting in an external screen.
Re:This website has 81% battery power remaining on Monday December 13, 2021 @12:23AM (#29536910)
False. Energetic costs of distributing duplicate information is significantly more expensive than local computation. Eg: measuring joules spent for decompression vs transmission is orders of magnitude over the n duplication.

Re:South Africa's lottery probed as 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 drawn on Wednesday December 02, 2020 @09:07PM (#25284420)
I used to do the same. Told my mom to buy that ticket, and explained to her she was wrong. And that made her sad to realize.

She buys the tickets because she enjoys the pleasure of forward predictions: what will she do with the money. Go to the bahamas, buy a villa. Relax.

That forward projection means dopamine and norephedrine release -- similar to taking a drug. She enjoys that pleasure that's why she buys it.

Re:EULA Found on a Package of Fruit on Monday October 12, 2020 @09:06PM (#24761291)
Let's say someone decides to just take their grapes (Cotton Candy Grapes) and grow them in their farm and sell it as "Popsicle Candy".

At that point the company that originally bred the grape would sue and claim patent infringement but also for EULA contract violation, giving them additional ammunition.

If you can get additional protection by printing some text on a package, why would you not do it? They spent twelve years breeding this strain, it would suck for someone to steal it.

Wait what?! I’ve got so many questions.

How exactly does a Taxi driver coordinate with guards? At what point did you discover the scheme? You were nearly blackmailed and just threw away the evidence?

How does the Airport guard blackmail you? How goes he expect to get paid? Why go through this and not just blackmail the actual legitimate drug users?

Re:Can Epic pull this off? It already did on Friday September 04, 2020 @04:58PM (#24378818)
I'm finally looking forward to being able to unlock the iPhone, being able to ssh into it and being able to install features and widgets that aren't just Apple provided.

Hopefully this allow more companies to then allow sideloading of their apps without the stupid app store. Software delivery has worked perfectly fine on PCs for decades. It's time the phones joined in.

It's been demonstrated already using a random circuit. Two random strings that match SHA, are practically speaking just toy examples using random useless information. There's no meaning to the numbers except that when you apply an operation to them the have the same output.

Now, instead of the random string, you have a random circuit. And the output is the goal. The random circuit is as useful to you as the random string. But using a quantum computer you can compute its state when operating. With a traditional computer it is very hard.

Re:Amazon.com Announces First Quarter Results on Thursday April 30, 2020 @06:30PM (#23036990)
Just curious why does wall st and others use "Earnings per share". The number of shares is arbitrary and can be adjusted up or down by a split/reverse split or dilution.

It seems to me that EPS is just earnings divided by an arbitrary number. Why not look at operating profit as a percentage instead?

Re:US oil prices crash below $0 a barrel on Monday April 20, 2020 @02:48PM (#22926994)
This is not the real price of oil. It's just a long squeeze -- an unfortunate side effect of the USO ETF as its rolling its holdings into the next futures contract.

Re:Anti-Cheat Kernel Driver on Tuesday April 14, 2020 @05:03PM (#22871416)
Why would they do that? They don't need to send the data through the kernel, they can just IPC it to the process and use the existing telemetry stack.

Also, what gives you panic here? What more damage can they do than running in user mode? They can already access all your files, steal all your cookies etc.

You got it wrong. Leaking this was bad opsec and weakens the Navy.

Did we ever run out of ventilators during the 2009 pandemic? 5% of untreated cases (e.g: no ventilator) end up being fatal -- if you look at the numbers in Iran.

Not sure I ever understood the haskell folks drive. Is it mathematical poetry? An extreme attempt to simplify? Is this an intellectual equivalent of trying to write poetry?

The words catamorphism, semigroup and monoid barely make sense to most programmers.

Re:Build a do-it-yourself air purifier for about $25 [video] on Monday October 28, 2019 @09:28PM (#21383528)
Was the filter in front or in the back of the fan?
Re:Build a do-it-yourself air purifier for about $25 [video] on Monday October 28, 2019 @09:24PM (#21383502)
In the video they explicitly said to place it “in front of the fan so the air blows through it”.

I’m sure they’re aware of the back placement — avoiding the tape. Curious why they they did not recommend it in the back. Maybe negative pressure creates leaks? Damages the fan? The air filter frame was meant to bend in one way?

Maybe the help filters are designed to handle positive pressure on one end and negative pressure causes the other end to expand and damage?
