If history has taught us anything, the idea of "settled science" is as anti science as it comes.
I can second the opinion on Magnesium. Though, instead of magnesium L threonate, I used Magnesium malate. I have tried citrate and orotate forms and while they were both good, compared to malate the effect was mild. The malate form of magnesium had a better calming effect on the mind and muscles. Will try L threonate next time and see how it works.

Slightly offtopic, but Article One recently launched a crowd-funding project[1] aimed at helping start ups affected by actual patent trolls.

According to the project page,

"Our goal is to launch and maintain a completely free, data-rich, up-to-date, member-supported database that small companies can use to help defend against patent trolls."

They are starting with a patent owned by Treehouse Avatar Technologies regarding gaming avatars. Treehouse has been targeting indie game developers using US 8180858[2].

Eventually, they plan to build a prior art database targeting the most abused patents and provide small start-ups with free access.

You should check out aimp[1]. It looks and performs like winamp and has similar functionality.

Media Monkey was quite useful in adding mp3 tags the way I wanted and organizing the entire library.

Just nitpicking, but isnt the unit supposed to be GHz?

400 Giga Cycles/s makes more sense, unless I am missing something.

These three lectures by Hans Bethe are really interesting to watch and gives you a historical perspective on the development of Quantum Physics. Given his age, the delivery is a bit slow, but it piques your interest in the subject.

No, there wasn't any alternate way to do it.

Watch the three guys who tried to do it via official channels, explain why it doesnt work and why they think he did the right thing.

Re:Bills seek end to farm animal abuse videos on Monday March 18, 2013 @01:00AM (#5392559)
We endowed it upon them.

These rights apply only in human - animal relations and not animal - animal relations. Carnivorous animals and other plants are free to do as they like to their fellow beings. But, from what I know animals rarely abuse other animals for no reason. Usually there is a good reason for them to attack another animal like food, territory, self defense or if they are ill( elephants in musth, rabid dogs and wolves).

What am trying to say is that animals get rights from the same place that we get rights, laws and social norms.

Animals are farmed and killed for us to eat, the least we can do is to treat them with respect while they are alive.

I am sleepy.

Here is the TEDx talk given by the founders

They talk about minimizing waste and using nuclear waste to power the reactors, but the article doesn't mention it at all.

There was a study conducted a while back which showed that the optimum body-thigh angle for sitting was not 90 degrees but 135 degrees.

By that logic, every successful sociopath is also a genius we should admire for being successful.

If we start appreciating charlatans for their marketing skills, we are going to be worse off in the long run.

Re:Being Wrong on the Internet on Thursday January 24, 2013 @05:46AM (#5108847)
I think you should have stopped after the first sentence. Everything after that is condescending and written in exactly the opposite manner you want OP to behave.

At least he just sarcastically criticized a piece of code without any personal attacks unlike your post.

Re:Help HN: Today I Just Became Homeless & I Need Your Help on Thursday January 24, 2013 @02:53AM (#5108259)
After reading this comment I did a cursory check and from what i could gather there is nothing to suggest any malicious intent in this request. The information he was written in this thread matches with the information found online, namely he is a UI designer located in Los Angeles that worked at some start ups.

The reason I am writing this is because I up voted this comment before checking in detail and now I cannot take it back.

Its certainly a grey area and covering all your bases legally before embarking on a penetration test would be good idea. Even with all the legal formalities, there needs to be a good level of trust between the client and the auditor for things to go smoothly.

Two days later, Mr. Al-Khabaz decided to run a software program called Acunetix, designed to test for vulnerabilities in websites, to ensure that the issues he and Mija had identified had been corrected.

If you find a security flaw in a system and report it, receiving positive feedback doesn't automatically imply that you have permission to conduct further tests. A web application vulnerability scanner can cause damage to production systems.

Almost anyone can just download a scanner and run a wild test using default settings. But its illegal to do it without prior authorization.

While his intentions were good, I think it was a bit naive of him to take upon himself the responsibility to make sure the flaws were fixed and conduct a test. Even when you have permission to conduct a test you stick to the scope and limits of the agreement. You cant just keep leapfrogging networks as you find holes.

Manually finding holes/bugs accidentally and reporting them is different from running a vulnerability scanner.

I dont think he should have been expelled without giving a chance to explain his story and the way they did it was not ethical. The management over reacted, especially considering there was no damages mentioned in this case.

He mentioned the Yodok camp in his travelogue. If the account given in Wikipedia is true, the conditions there are truly horific.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yodok_concentration_camp#Condi...

It sounds like one of the worst places on earth and we wont know the true extent of the horror until the situation changes there and the country opens up.
