I have to respectfully disagree with microcolonel in the context of trying to educate more politically progressive people about firearms.

I cannot recommend the NRA as many people (former members, including myself) feel they have gone from being an advocate for the 2nd Amendment in the United States to being a mouthpiece for the Republican Party and it tends to come up with their instructors, classes, and other students and would probably put most progressives off.

I would do research to see if your state offers any sort of Hunter Education programs instead as they tend to focus less on the politics (IMO) are more comprehensive multi-week classes. Plus some of these classes are available for no charge or help the state with preserving vs having to pay for the NRA courses.

https://www.hunter-ed.com/ might be a good place to start.

Another thing I would like to bring up is the fact that in the United States the Police have no legal obligation to protect you from danger or harm[0] so the only reliable option is to defend yourself in the most efficient method available.

That particular precedent isn't just a one-time thing, it has been used in a variety of cases[1] since the ruling came down.

Re:How Hunter S. Thompson Became a Legend on Friday June 09, 2017 @04:26PM (#14524249)
Prior to really coming into the public eye with his coverage of the 2007 financial crisis he wrote a book about American politics called "The Great Derangement". He covers his interactions with 9/11 Truthers as well as going undercover in a conservative religious group.

I'm sure I am missing some other topics that he covers since it has been years since I read it but I would certainly suggest checking it out.

HST's obituary of Nixon is a phenomenal read.

I think this is an excellent example that we can all reference the next time someone says that governments should be allowed to have backdoors to encryption etc.

This shows that no agency is immune from leaks and when these tools fall into the wrong hands the results are truly catastrophic.

While on one hand I agree that yes, touch is a major component in how people interact with computers, I feel like we are being dragged down to the lowest common denominator of user interface.

I cannot think of legitimate business case to implement the Metro UI/touch interfaces on servers.

While I can understand your sentiment, but that is a really horrible use of one of your most powerful rights as a citizen. It may not change the course of history, but it certainly can change the course of another human being's life.

Agreed! One thing to add:

Learn to keep your knives sharp. A sharp knife is a safe knife and makes the whole prep process go faster.

Your example is not analogous to this situation. The driver is not an investor, he is a contractor/employee of the company.

It could be to gather data to be able to negotiate deals with local TV providers. Get an idea of what the demand in a market is and go from there.
Seconded. Even articles that pop-up directly in my Google News feed don't display the full article.
Re:Technical report on DNC hack [pdf] on Thursday December 29, 2016 @04:18PM (#13280214)
It was the timing of the exposure that could have interfered with the results of the Presidential election which is a major news event in the US that many people perceive to have a higher impact on their lives vs. a quietly disclosed hack/coincidence (F-35 example).

Plus in some people's minds a private defense contractor being "hacked" is more along the lines of industrial espionage instead of a major political party being "hacked" during an election. Even worse, certain news outlets reporting that the election itself(!) was hacked which is misleading and could make people think that voting machines were actually hacked by a foreign power instead of the PsyOps which allegedly took place.

Nice write-up. Bonus: It comes just in time for traditional Thanksgiving family arguments!

My first thought reading the post was that it reminds me of Polandball memes.
