your idea might be better. I could help if you need support.
Re:Ask HN: Is there a hacker news toolbox? Pls validate the idea on Wednesday October 08, 2014 @06:14AM (#8426149)
One idea: it might be worth asking for email addresses. You already had 27 people interested. Build a quick unbounce page and get the emails so you can recontact.

Excellent idea.

Not completely sure what scope you have in mind.

It reminds me of two things:

1. Tools of the Trade: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=5235137

they do an edition per year.

2. and somewhere there is a google spreadhsheet of all hacker news derived websites (all the guys who scrape hacker news to build "derivatives").

Thank you. I appreciate the screenshot. Interesting; I get the feeling the tag algorithm is crucial to make it work. Not sure it's such a clear no-brainer as I first imagined it...

http://hn.algolia.com/api Thanks. How many requests would that require ?

http://algorithmia.com/demo/hn does not work for me.

Ask HN: anyone interested to build a hacker news with tags?

Could anyone help me build a hacker news with tags? I am asking only those who are interested to have it as well because I only have a budget for the hosting for this. The point is to be able to search through the whole archive using tags/keywords.example of tags:'security''crm''a/b testing''optimization''http', 'ssl', 'domain name''scala', 'c++', 'php', etc'lua''sql''marketing''website''landing...

Re:Telegram’s Cryptanalysis Contest on Friday December 20, 2013 @07:40AM (#6941109)
The contest actually puts the burden of proof on the "claim of insecurity" side.
Re:Telegram’s Cryptanalysis Contest on Friday December 20, 2013 @05:10AM (#6940728)
> They use the broken SHA1 hash function

They answer this point on the website: "Q: Why do you use SHA-1 in the place of a MAC? [...] since this means still requiring at least 2^128 operations (instead of 2^256 with, say, SHA-2) to even begin trying to break this scheme, the trade-off seems fair."

Why not break the crypto (and take the money) if it's so amateurish?

""It's legalized front-running. I think it is basically evil and I don't think it should have ever been allowed to reach the size that it did," he said. "Why should all of us pay a little group of people to engage in legalized front-running of our orders?""

Why the [Classification][100K sample?] checkpoint?

And more info in general about this whole cheat-sheet.

This videos on Box don't work very well unfortunately: I can't pause and resume a video. Every time I miss any information I have to reload the page and start from the beginning of the vid....

Otherwise, great and I like the one video I watched. Thanks.

Re:Ask HN: Educating a child who is severely behind on Tuesday May 28, 2013 @06:25AM (#5779167)
I recommend this book: "Happiest Toddler on the Block: How to Eliminate Tantrums and Raise a Patient, Respectful and Cooperative One- to Four-year-old" by Harvey Karp.

The book actually has plenty of "tricks". Contrary to what I have read in this page I found (and this is the point of Dr Karps' books) that there are plenty of tricks that are absolutely not intuitive.

For example to avoid a tantrum you repeat to the child what he actually wants ("Jimmy wants to eat more cake") then explain shortly why he cannot and propose something else. I found this works surprisingly well. Just the fact that the child hears what he wants from your mouth seems to make a big difference.

Re:Show HN: HN Store on Wednesday April 03, 2013 @08:37AM (#5485626)
Good idea.

I'd be interested in the same for web apps / web services.

Thanks for the post.

What I find annoying is that to simply test a business idea where you need to store subscriber's email addresses you normally need to register at the CNIL for which you need a registered company which requires what is described in the article. It feels backwards somehow: you need to register a company (with all the paperwork involved) before you even know if it can work.

Ask HN: what have you learned in the last 12 months that help you make money?

Last week I started wondering what I had learned over the last 12 months. What did I learn that actually make a difference on my bank account? Of course I learned many small things (tricks in PHP, javascript, css, http server optimization, etc.) But these things didn't really make a difference. Still there were a couple of things that truly were "breakthroughs" for me, even though there might...

Ask HN: statistical significance on group of Adwords keywords

I am trying to optimize my adwords campaign, and running into the 'statistical significance' question.I read this great post from Paras Chopra here: http://visualwebsiteoptimizer.com/split-testing-blog/ab-testing-significance-calculator-spreadsheet-in-excel/Though in my case I started my campaign with many keywords (about 400 keywords), and I now have the following:Keyword group A (10 keywords...

Product: lead generation market place "in a box" (or SAAS)

Use cases: RedBeacon for any niche, any language or location.

Re:Poll - product ideas - vote and submit on Thursday February 21, 2013 @05:28AM (#5256635)
Product: CRUD web application "in a box"

Input: a SQL database structure (.sql file)

Output: a complete web app with CRUD interface, admin interface, and user authentication

(something like this -> http://phreeze.com/cargo/customers with user authentication)

Use cases: any team of people who need to work on a common database. (I am looking for this since years)

Poll - product ideas - vote and submit

I have some products that I need and would like done either by me or someone else.Since many of us have needs and limited time, why not list our needs and business ideas, and vote. This can be used both ways: to say 'I need this', or to ask 'How many people need this?'.One vote should mean: I need this.I'll start with a couple of things I have been looking for since a while.
