windows 95 looked the way it did, not because the people making it thought it was the optimal look, but due to hardware limitations.
A designer in 1995 seeing you waste a modern 4k LCD monitor’s potential to display blurry low res 256 color icons? They would think you are clinically insane.
Most likely reason for such fall from grace in update speeds? They lost the savant senior dev (or two) keeping their project together.
It should be at least 10x higher, this bug affects a billion users
any such (public) company has fallen into the ”printing money from past heroic projects by former employees” phase and is slowly dying out
The tech sector prints money. Large companies can leech off past heroics built by former employees for decades, even if the current employees are incompetent. A zombie company if you will.
They can just mess with the Tiktok algorithm. i’m 100% sure there is lots of content that will increase birth rate.
Yes, it’s called a filter bubble. Covid was extremely easy to avoid pre-Omicron even without vaccines if you don’t go to nightclubs and don’t work in an office and have no kids.
but it’s not? do you actually remember 2005? Online shops, online banking, online food delivery, online payments, they ALL used to suck majorly.
? data centers are a net negative for carbon emissions.
1. no need to drive to a bank/govt office/business when it has been digitized
2. watching a video on youtube, netflix or tiktok is basically carbon emission free compared to other forms of enterntainment that would be consumed if the internet wasn’t available
3. emails instead of paper snail mail, billions of trees saved since the 90s
The list goes on and on
Is there a term for this, where a person discovers something extremely interesting, but doesn’t know the proper channels to make the knowledge public?
In this case, releasing the info on a random spammy looking WP blog.
”finished” is just a label, all software can be worked on infinitely, at some point production usage HAS to start
You have to look at it from the company’s point of view. As the accounts can be created for free, every day millions of grifters are pulling shady shit. Using stolen CCs to purchase, trying to scam the support team, refund scams, identity theft… You name it and it happens.
The email text to me looks like it was written by some 15-year-old zoomer kid with no clue what they’re really doing.
Wolt was a show of Northern European style software/business development, and it’s why Doordash acquired them.
Now that US big tech has their dirty fingers all over Wolt, I’ll guess all that will be gone in 3 years as the bullshit starts creeping in.
Remote work. Hundreds of millions of well-off middle class people gained 2 hours of extra time and energy per day from not having to commute.
Thats equivalent to a population boom.
Sounds more like classic large organization things.
I bet there were some employees who saw the estimates were untrustable and the entire thing was heading towards failure, but good luck changing the course of a ship controlled by hundreds of people.
No, I don’t.
But just like I can trust the things I buy from the grocery stone to not poison me or to have stones embedded inside, I trust medical products taken by millions or even billions of people
GMO’s is emotional, largely based on the public image around the word ”mutant” meaning a hulk like green person that was irradiated by a James Bond villain etc
No they won’t. conspiracy theories are based on instincts and emotions not any science or rationality.
pills are basically just food(=good) to the subconscious lizard brain, zero negative connotations from evolution, zero conspiracy theories
The same antivaxxers who ”refuse to take experiemental drugs from big pharma Pfizer” will gobble this pill down no questions asked.
Which just proves, the anti-vaxxer moment is based on the primitive instinct of ”pain and needles=bad”
Being scared of vaccines should be considered the same thing as having a fear of dentists. Or pets hating going to the vet.
Because the only real way you can say if someone is fit for a job, is to work alongside them for about 1-6 months.
The interview system is just there to avoid as many mishires and time wasting as possible
This. and also, they’ve run out of countries to grow users from.
All the 3rd world countries now have internet and smartphones, there is no billions of unconnected people remaining who Facebook can give free internet access to.
The only way for them is downwards unless they radically change things. The metaverse is kinda a hail mary
WHy? It's a entertaiment business not a governmental service. Developing features that 0.1% of users will ever use, same time can be used for bugfixes that help the 99.9%
”The 996 work schedule has officially been made illegal. Firms relying on gig work have been ordered to improve pay and working conditions. The Housing ministry has capped annual rent increases at 5%. The $120 billion private education and tutoring industry was effectively killed off overnight.”
aand this is why China will win. The last time western governments had enough agency to do stuff like this was WW2.
Fully betting China will solve the youth fertility crisis within this decade. Be it via arranged marriages, algoritmic fuckery, or plain old tax hikes for not having children.

Slowing down is mostly caused by battery wear. All my Android devices have had the same problem.
There's a HUGE difference between getting murdered by your friend in a drunken argument, and getting murdered by a stranger street criminal trying to rob you....
Sweden sacrificed ~20k elderly people to covid for no actual gain. Very questionable for a society that claims to be a "humanitarian superpower"
I'd say it demonstrates really well the way the country is heading: more inequality, people not caring what happens to each other, just in general America v2 but with a different language.
Umm, no. did you read the article? The early covid supply chain issues were ages ago, the effects of those were gone by last summer.
The current supply chain issues are mainly due to China’s zero-covid policy and a typhoon closing down ports.
The western world is basically back to pre-covid business wise, with Asia being the bottleneck
