Re:Python client for the $20 Colmi R02 smart ring on Monday October 14, 2024 @07:11AM (#41836388)
You could try to open it (carefully, you might damage your precious lamp. Also please plug it out beforhand). Often times smart devices like these have debugging ports left on the board you can easily access with some clamps.
I love the images in that patent. Just imagine lawyers discussing images like this one: https://www.j-platpat.inpit.go.jp/gazette_work2/domestic/A/5...
Where is my .exe file to run the entire planet in ~30 minutes?

To add some value to my joke comment: I would assume this is running "Open Street Map" locally on a webserver.

Shocking that such things still exist in 2024. Even though you can say that this will not hurt the "big companies", I still feel that this is very close to fraud/stealing.
Re:Only 90s Web Developers Remember This on Thursday January 25, 2024 @04:00AM (#39127604)
Ah, the 90s - a time when <table> was the answer to every web layout question. Miss aligning your text? <table>. Need a fancy menu? <table>. Creating a full website? Nested <table>s! Who needed CSS when you had rows and cells to hack your way through design? Good old days of <td>-ing everything!

Being Dealt a Royal Flush in Poker. NO but pretty close.

Being Born on February 29th. NO

Re:Elon Musk: "Don't advertise. Go f*** yourself" on Thursday November 30, 2023 @02:56AM (#38470894)
The way he looks at the audience, expecting a positive reaction, it seems to me that the memes have really got into his head and he thinks people still love him for being so edgy and 'funny'. Instead, he comes across as a dangerous lunatic with too much power and money.
I would say around a 6 or 7 for someone with mid-level experience. For a junior dev, it might be closer to an 8, given the multiple components involved.
It's fun and a great idea but I think the AI should reward comedy a bit more (if it is capable to understand it).

Nice seeing a nuxt-webapp in production.
Re:Learn AutoHotKey by stealing my scripts on Tuesday August 22, 2023 @09:02AM (#37222106)
The syntax was one of the main reasons I chose AutoIt. For some reason I cannot stand the AHK syntax. For me personally it is hard to bring structure to an AHK code.
Re:Learn AutoHotKey by stealing my scripts on Tuesday August 22, 2023 @02:15AM (#37219276)
I always preferred AutoIt to AutoHotKey, but AutoIt never got any updates and the community is slowly dying while AutoHotKey seems to be doing great.
Re:Meta Open Sources AudioCraft: Generative AI for Audio on Wednesday August 02, 2023 @12:19PM (#36972993)
Finally, a way to fulfill my childhood dream of composing a symphony of rubber ducks honking. Bach would be proud.

/edit On a more serious node. I already see the 24/7 lofi girl streaming generated music. The sample[1] on lofi sounds pretty good.

This is nice. Actually a lot nicer than my hacked together 'invoice-generator.js' NodeJS-Tool I have used before. I think I am switching!
Re:Ask HN: Will you be signing up for Threads? on Thursday July 06, 2023 @03:26AM (#36612471)
I will not. For me, the most discussions and hate on Twitter is hard to read. With topics aimed at an even broader and more mainstream audience (sign in with Instagram), there will be even fewer people sharing really interesting and niche tech topics. I imagine there will be hundreds of "How to hack any website with this simple trick" type posts or pseudo "grindset" motivational posts.

I really liked the "share your personal blogs" post in HN and hope we all appreciate this kind of content more than these social media tiktok wanna be like endless scrolling reddit apps.

Now imagine this, but with a "LinkedIn feed" that shows updates from your peers, showing their professional accomplishments and current salary.
"All I have is AI/ML experience" - I would say there is no better time in the job market for that kind of experience.

I would look for junior roles, but if there is an offer that sounds interesting, just give it a go. I have learnt that these requirements are often not that strict and once you can talk to the people, they do not matter at all.

As far as job titles go, you can search for data scientist roles.

This is exactly how I used to bypass the parental control application on windows when I was young. I only had 1 hour of computer time, after which the tool would close all applications on my PC except Microsoft Office Apps (for productivity). After a bit of clicking around, I somehow managed to open a browser in Outlook and play flash games on Miniclip.
I think these types of questions would be closer to real life programming if they had to be done in an IDE and included tests to check your solution.
He mentions that the goal is a PCB drone, but also mentions laptop cooling as a possible application. The initial design of the motor is a low heat one, as the early iterations had a problem with overheating at low RPM.
This guy's work and dedication is truly impressive. He posted a video [1] about his concept of a PCB drone 4 years ago and he and his methods have evolved so much. In addition to his highly specialized knowledge of designing, testing and iterating PCB coils, he also makes comprehensive and interesting videos out of it. I highly recommend checking out his channel.

Re:AI: First New UI Paradigm in 60 Years, Jakob Nielsen on Tuesday June 20, 2023 @02:52AM (#36400579)
I am surprised this article does not even mention multimodal LLMs. Because the more kinds of media the LLM can take as in input and interpret the easier the interaction with it gets.
Re:The Day Windows Died on Monday April 03, 2023 @02:09AM (#35419145)
I would love to know the OS statistics in the Microsoft development teams.
Re:AutoHotkey v2 Official Release Announcement on Sunday January 29, 2023 @04:37AM (#34566452)
I always preferred AutoIt over AutoHotkey. There is something with syntax of AutoHotkey I can stand.
Re:Ploopy: open hardware trackballs and mouse on Tuesday August 24, 2021 @04:26AM (#28286305)
During my time in university I was researching about computer mice and how the size affects the performance. With how easy it is to design and print your own computer mouse it would be awesome to have an open standardized testing kit to see how the user performance changes with the mouse.
