Any comments people?
Yup, spot instances would surely fit. And yes EC2 is awesome too. No point in changing the thread to a different discussion altogether. Even if Rackspace is #2, this is not what was expected of it, right? Changing the provider to EC2 is an option that everyone has but that has enormous overhead too!
That is what I was expecting from HN community. It would be really sad to see this go unnoticed.
Well, I wont go so far calling Rackspace a 'bad' company as such, afterall they have an excellent customer support - but there are somethings which should never be overlooked or , for that matter, never be done when you have such a huge customer base. Rackspace is just taking a wrong turn here!
sure, github, thenextweb & countless others ovelooked the beauty that EC2 was.Right?

There are countless differences between EC2 & Rackspace for example CPU - rackspace's performance is way better than EC2. You should benchmark your scripts on both & then compare.

Rackspace has increased server costs twofold, and nobody has noticed.

I migrated to the NEXTGEN servers because of the benefits listed everywhere. I built a server and realized that our processes (which were cpu intensive) were taking twice the time they used to on Firstgen. The response from their side was 'You get "occasional" CPU bursts in Firstgen & that is the reason.I decided to benchmark the cpu performance & found out that I was right about it.I...

countries can definitely be forced or rather be asked to cooperate to reduce piracy - http://croak.eu/uDKQwa
Re:Why we think there's a Multiverse, not just our Universe on Saturday October 29, 2011 @10:48AM (#3171978)
hah, its like a variable in a function making theories about what the whole program is all about, and that there might be many other functions similar to it. :D

take a look at this one too - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Many-worlds_interpretation

Re:Addictive and sticky HTML5 experiment on Saturday October 29, 2011 @10:26AM (#3171939)
no denying. its addictive alright.
let those little ones play with the system, some of them will soon realize how much there is in the world outside and some of them will attempt to change the world!

its not about how fast it is or what all things are wrong in that. its about whatever is right in that - which indeed will be amazing for them.

Re:Walk Away From Your Computer. Seriously. on Monday September 26, 2011 @01:50AM (#3037801)
The comments reading seems to diverge from the main post, but was fun reading anyway.

When I face the same problem and when my head is full of all the noisy - "why is this thing not working, I think I did everything right" s

- I stroll around, walk a mile or two - have some coffee there at some store - look at the people there and think - 'what is running on their mind? Not a buggy code,I guess' - and then come back, stare at the screen and voila! there it is! An insignificant pesky ';' was missing!

So, yes, walk away from your computer. What you and your computer have is a relationship and you need to spend some time apart to realize what you're missing in there. And to get it to work. ;)

Re:Show HN: My Friday evening hack - Frustimonials on Sunday September 25, 2011 @09:19AM (#3035752)
Haha, it was fun, wasn't it? :D

Would you call this a hack?

There was a recent post here on hacker news - 'http://frustimonials.com'Lots of people started posting some frustimonials like 'hackernews frustrates me because it calls frustimonials.com a hack'So to make things a bit 'like' hack , and to give the owner an insight of security, a small script is what I ran.I'd say , a nice idea but be careful about security. This is exactly same way I learnt my...

Re:Speed-of-light experiments yield baffling result at LHC on Friday September 23, 2011 @02:22PM (#3031003)
+1 here! Questions are fun. I didn't learn my name till people around me bugged me thousands of times a day with the questions -- 'what is your name, you cute little thing?'.

I so so digg your 'the more we learn, the less we know' dialogue.

Re:Speed-of-light experiments yield baffling result at LHC on Friday September 23, 2011 @12:01AM (#3028785)
Yes,the mankind would literally need to rewrite physics! It will be so exciting to be a part of it!

About the 70's group, can you share the link to the article?

Re:The Three Slide Rule on Tuesday September 13, 2011 @06:30AM (#2990769)
Excellent article. Its so true - these days people concentrate on increasing the slide numbers to make it appear as if there is a lot of content in it.No wonder, people hate most of the presentations these days.

'Words' and 'Expressions' along with a meaningful message are the best ways to communicate yourself across to a room full of people. Some visual material is as much important but only 'useful' material.

Rather than wasting your time on thinking 'how to fill N number of slides', it will be a lot more useful if we know our material, practice our material and choose our words carefully. Practice how to engage audience, than trying to make awesome visuals to enchant them with your slide making skills.

Why 'three slide' rule?

Lets make it a 'one' slide rule! :)

Re:Fucking Sue Me on Monday September 12, 2011 @08:06AM (#2986842)
Right, how much could that company have sued him for?! Hahhaha, he wouldn't have written this article if not for the risk that he had taken! Its a nice way of telling people -- 'go take risks, be happy man!' :D
Re:Personal jetpack in 2012 for $100,000 on Saturday September 10, 2011 @09:24AM (#2981532)
If I had $100k, I'd help bootstrapping 5 startups.

I'll wait for 2-5 years for them to grow, and in the mean time the jetpack will become safer!

Re:Notifo (YC W10) Will be Shutting Down on Friday September 09, 2011 @01:36AM (#2976983)
One of the most inspiring comments on this post - 'Sad news. Congrats on what you achieved though. Much respect. Best wishes on your next project.'

Seriously, chad, Congrats. :)

I will not 'agree' or 'disagree'. But I have the same opinion as yours, no more programming languages please!

Help making the present language better, if you really want to!
