Show HN: Flopper is a hardware explorer for AI infrastructure and beyond

https://flopper.io/

Hello!I built Flopper to make it easier to compare GPUs and understand the tradeoffs for workloads for AI and beyond. When researching GPUs from say Nvidia, AMD, and Huawei, I kept running into the same problem: specs were scattered across datasheets, and matching them to available configurations, vendors, and prices was cumbersome and a bit weird and frankly annoyingggg! AMD made me make an...

Interesssting! Thanks for reporting stranger ranger danger!

Will take a look

Re:How many GPUs is 1M/B/T tokens? on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @05:41PM (#49999164)
Yes, we're trying to get those ingested. We have quite a few but you raise a good point that inference at home is rising!

Part of the problem we have is some of those desktop GPUs don't have power and flops data. We're toying with the idea of writing a CLI to run/publish these but obviously a lot of work.

Cheers for engaging!

Piggybacking as you may find it useful. I built https://flopper.io and aim to do this differently that OP. We started with datasheets and individual GPUs. We're trying to get as many as we can.

Currently trying to work to have a plugin of similar to post back to get accurate benchmarks.

Take a look if you're interested!

Re:Ask HN: What are you working on? (September 2026) on Monday September 14, 2026 @04:50AM (#49693815)
Still plugging away on https://flopper.io

Added models and pricing there recently too. Aiming to be a huge place for all GPU data when it comes to mathematical performance. Things like FP8 for AI inference etc.

Tempted to make the infrastructure a bit more sound.

Aside from that I'm working on https://solarable.org - which is aiming to provider understanding of solar panels before finding an installer and plotholes.app (https://plotholes.app) which is a consensus network for potholes as reported and determined by cyclists.

Re:CUDA for AMD on Windows on Sunday September 13, 2026 @07:14PM (#49689729)
Interesting option for CDNA architecture chips. I wonder if this moves to an open standard?

I worry about the safety element of this. I'm not sure that having people walking around completely oblivious to their environments is a good thing.

In a multiple of ways: you become disconnected from nature and closed off to environments, and you also reduce safety because you don't know what is going on around you (high % of population live in cities).

Not a uniquely Apple problem though, I suppose.

Pulling together lots of solar data trying to promote solar panel installation in the UK.

We've had three back to back heatwaves so far this summer in the UK. THREE!

Hopefully it inspires people to make an informed decision to get the best price and starts generating more questions and leads for solar companies.

https://solarable.org

Cool concept, but lots of processing to get to that point still.

Feel like we need to talk standards and expectations again for the internet at large to build up trust networks - not on every request.

Efficiency seems so far away from engineering standards now. Odd how we got here.

GATCHA would be a better name but I digress

Looks loads better bromeo!
Interesting that the PFLOP value on FP4 is around the datasheet quote (20k TFLOP): https://flopper.io/gpu/amd-instinct-mi355x-oam

Great work, thanks for the write up.

FWIW: Agree with font, lots of a11y constraints. I ended up using Reader Mode

Re:Ask HN: What are you working on? (June 2026) on Sunday June 14, 2026 @03:34PM (#48531717)
Still plugging away trying to build a AI Infrastructure Database - any input super welcome

https://flopper.io

Aside from that, I've launched a new tool that tries to promote Solar panels. The UK has some of the most expensive energy in the world, so I've been trying to let homeowners and building managers understand if their building's are suitable.

Uses some APIs all plugged together - including the DEFRA datasets for DSM (LiDAR from planes).

Hey man, absolutely.

Let me know what you're after here, as super cool to do it.

Also might be cool to do a backlink share too if you are up for that?

Re:Ask HN: What are you working on? (May 2026) on Sunday May 10, 2026 @08:21PM (#48089609)
Working on trying to give some guidance on solar panels.

Plug in solar became legal here in the UK

Still sussing it out but started shipping something

Finding the pitch direction of the roof is kinda hard

Uses data from the house to try and get a rating

Re:Work with the Garage Door Up on Friday April 24, 2026 @06:48PM (#47896762)
THe interface - or the garage itself - is huge here.

I want multiple ways to publish. Sometimes I wanna share images, sometimes I just wanna pipe output from a command and add some context.

Pretty frustrated of going into apps like X that break my train of thought instantly.

1. https://flopper.io - a resource to find AI infrastructure benchmarks and soon - compare providers. Reach out if you're a provider!

2. https://boulderinglist.com - a catalog of climbing gyms across the world

3. https://livedsupport.com - AI driven support for colorectal issues

4. https://radiusing.uk - find where people are willing to do something to improve the social fabric of where they live

5. https://llmstxt.studio - generate rich and full llms.txt files for your website. Then we check if AI queries would cite you based on this.

6. https://probe.bike - aggregate and tell stories with your cycling data

7. https://paletter.dev - a color design system for the modern era - based on design systems

8. https://llmstxt.work - a directory of llms.txt files

Probably working on too many projects at the moment - but really enjoying building again.

Working hard to figure out how to market, interested in trying to push things out a bit more.

Working on a benchmarking tool with https://flopper.io for GPUs too - written in Rust - which should allow me to try to get people to submit their general flop values for consumer hardware to run local llms/models.

Any feedback super welcome!

This is cool, I'll add these as desktops to https://flopper.io!

How do you test/generate these numbers?

Re:Some Things Just Take Time on Saturday March 21, 2026 @06:32PM (#47472219)
Sometimes to move fast - we have to go slow.

That's a mantra I learned when getting into technology.

Asking questions about how things work, why it is a certain way, or why a shortcut was made often give you far better insights than anything else.

Slowing down and understandng is great. With AI this is even easier. But choose wisely, brains get full.

hey brotato,

added this to the best of my ability

weird values due to VRAM implementation (lower FP stinks)

Hope this helps ya

need to find a way to get more sleep

If anyone is up for benchmarking with one of these - please let me know.

Interested to see what FP32 values they have for a site I've been working on [0].

Re:Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (December 2025) on Monday December 15, 2025 @04:55AM (#46272385)
Thanks!

It's difficult. It takes time away from my evenings and weekends at the moment and the only way that I can really justify that is by making it paid.

Otherwise I won't get up at 0600 to fix an SLA.

Let's see! I've priced it on the cost of an inner-tube a year. So fingers crossed.

I had an hour to vibe tonight and it looks like it may have gone.

Spent it in bloody Figma instead :(

Re:Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (December 2025) on Sunday December 14, 2025 @04:29PM (#46267140)
Sweeeeeeet!

This is cool, I really like a lot of tunes and try to mix them in only to find it hard and just hack to whack it in. I'll give this a go!

Re:Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (December 2025) on Sunday December 14, 2025 @04:28PM (#46267134)
Added a fifth project this month. Most likely very unwise...

1. probe.bike - tell stories with your bike rides. It allows you to aggregate your cycling trip into one datapoint. Will likely break this out to skiing over the break and rebrand slightly. Adding yearly cards as we speak!

2. flopper.io - I'm seeing traffic rise and rise for this and it's been a great way to translate my every-increasing understanding of AI Infrastructure architecture to a new project. It acts as a benchmark website for GPUs and systems (e.g. Nvidia NVL72.

3. llmstxt.studio - still feel like llms.txt as an idea make sense - so hedged that and but let's see. Got my first customer this month. B2B and need more features/marketing.

4. rides.bike - the oldest - a catalogue or well researched cycling destinations and information about destinations. Will be adding more very soon!

> a small fraction of kids branching off into fringe networks that are off the radar and will take them to very dark places very quickly.

I've been grappling with this all afternoon and I still cannot determine what my stance on this.

I grew up when the internet was a bit of a wildwest, and I've definitely seen things online that I wish I never had without my consent.

But there's also a bizarre thought that mayb exposure to this isn't such a bad thing because it keeps us human, and aware of privilidge and our safety - and why that is such an important thing to think about

I'd equate it at some level to seeing the inside of the production of food and being put of eating meat, or eating anything non-organic again.

I'm not sure I would like my own children to see it, but I'm hyper aware of what conflict and crime looks like as a result.

Comparatively to social media at least I was making a choice to click on something risky or that I would not like to see rather than having a algorithm choose for me. Not sure if I am just becoming a middle-aged tech dinosaur though.,
