Little known fact... this images are actually backed by Flickr.com and in there you get to download the original size vs "large" which seems to only be available on the nasa.gov site

Just search in flickr for the image id and you will get the relevant image in Flickr. e.g. https://flickr.com/photos/nasa2explore/55208327975

I use the built in accessibility "Color Filters" in Mac with the Menu Bar shortcut to toggle it on/off

Re:The easiest way to create a README on Saturday November 16, 2024 @03:06PM (#42158848)
It would be nice if the app would allow us to save templates (no need to get fancy just via URL params e.g. for the above it would be something like:`?sections=title&Desc,installation,runLocally,Support,Authors,Ack,usageExamples`

That way we could just generate a 'template' that we can share/save etc

Re:Google Cloud Spanner is now half the cost of Amazon DynamoDB on Wednesday October 11, 2023 @02:35PM (#37848466)
It's surprising how Google have shot themselves in the foot with their short term thinking. Nobody trust them for anything that involves long term support on any new services/products(and several already existing products).
Re:Lit 3 Release Announcement on Tuesday October 10, 2023 @03:36PM (#37836458)
I have professionally worked using both Lit & React for several years.

I disagree with you here. (I do not work at Google nor have worked there, but I do work in FANG for ~10 years) whilst sadly it's true that React has become the de-facto standard. I feel like is akin to the Betamax vs VHS story (the best format did not win, but the most popular did).

* The Shadow DOM was not slammed and is no longer a proposal. It's part of the standard and is supported by every browser. Shadow DOM solves one of the most common issues in web development today without using any hacks (which is what every other framework that does not support shadow DOM needs to do, to make sure CSS does not leak between components), not only it solves the CSS leak issue but also improves rendering time because it's easier for the browser engine to compute styles, since they are scoped.

* Lit has nothing to do with NodeJS, is a front-end framework, the fact that NodeJS is "banned" a Google has nothing to do with this.

* Why would I use this? (over React/Vue) well, for starters the code generated by Lit is significantly smaller (as a result faster more performant applications) than the React/Vue/etc counterparts mostly because it leans on standards and does not try to re-invent the stack like React does and does not need a significant runtime (e.g. virtual DOM/diffing/etc) but most importantly when you use it you are embracing the web, you are not in an uncanny valley of leaky abstractions (e.g. useRef, useState, etc) that try (unsuccessfully) to shield you how the web/browsers/css/js works.

React has one clear benefit over Lit, and that is that almost every developer understand it, and that every library is compatible with it and is easier to find engineers to code in React, barrier of entry is smaller, etc.

Re:Crumb Circuit Simulator on Friday August 19, 2022 @04:16PM (#32525508)
Looks like it's coming from the website:

"There is also a Desktop Based version in development which offers a much wider range of tools, deeper analysis and extras such as schematic views and PCB layouts"

If somebody with this app feels charitable, could they please try it on the page below and perhaps share the output via a gist or something?

https://www.warp.dev ("Download Now" or "Watch Demo" button)

There is no trial period, so it is hard to evaluate this tool. This is a really complex button, multiple SVGs, etc, so it might produce some insight into how capable the tool is.

Surprised nobody has mentioned the main advantages of web-based apps:

* Collaboration (including real-time collaboration)

* Ease (or more like lack of it) installation process

* Always up to date

Re:Superhuman embeds tracking pixels in user emails on Tuesday July 02, 2019 @01:53PM (#20337621)
If I understand this correctly:

(Gmail’s API lockdown will kill some third-party app access, starting July 15) https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=20300008

I think their startup will stop working soon, given that they only support GMail.

Doesn't this mean that SuperHuman is screwed?
