- What are they doing: force smaller companies to die or be bought by bigger ones.
- How are they doing that: They keep adding regulation so that fix costs and complexity to manage a company increase.
- Why are they doing that: having a lot of smaller companies is difficult and expensive to control. Usually it is impossible. Having a few big companies is easier and cheaper to control (you only need to book a room and invite a few ceos to regulate everything).
The fun part is that companies like Google, Apple, etc fake a fight against the regulators, but are actually the 2nd beneficiaries (1st being the regulators).
If you speak with seniors in the financial industry, they will talk about it with passion and anger because they can provide countless practical examples which killed their industry and the "joy" to wake up in the morning.
As an exemple, you can see how JP Morgan seems to fight regulation and make it appear to be a victim of regulation, but finally is always the winner.

The problem is not the position but the length working in the same position. Whatever position.
If you stand the whole day, your legs will suffer (ask people working in shops); in the long run you will have "heavy legs" issue. You may lower the effects with a proper setup of your bed (feet should be 2-4 cm higher).
The only real solution: * A good physical activity: cardio + strengthening the muscle for "body protection". * Streching all the muscle groups.
The three "I" actors: - "I"nnovators: Time to invest - "I"mitators: Time to be careful - "I"diots: Time to leave
The key to success is to spot when the ecosystem's actors are switching from the 2nd to the 3rd category.
Please complete the list if I am missing some. ;)
A browser is like a girl, you should take it as is and not force it to do what you want to. :)
Ask HN: Should HN provide more RSS feeds?
Hi,I had the feeling that since the last summer, the number of posts has been increasing dramatically, so I checked the stats on Google Reader: 890.2 posts per week!!!I honestly have no time to read all of that (and 70% is.... too specialised), but I also need my daily HN.I think it is time for more RSS feeds: would you like to have the "homepage links"/"most popular"/... feeds?Do you agree?...
This sounds like first level solution, what about the other ones?
Emotional topic. Difficult (half)-solutions.
Dimensions to assess that would totally change the selected country:
- A start-up in which business domain?
- What will you sell?
- Who are your targeted customer? Where are they located?
- Where are you main competitors?
- Where is the best "ecosystem" in your domain that could help you/partnership with?
- Do you need some VCs?
- Tax optimization requirements?
- What is your "exit strategy"?
Hint: be located close to your competitors, partners and of course... customers.
There is no ONE approach to sell whatever website / company / solution. The strategy will depend on the nature of the assets you want to "sell" (your expertise, employees, code, customers, etc.), your potential customers (an entrepreneur, a medium company, a Fortune 500 company, ...), your balance sheet, etc.
So my advice would be to analyze your situation and try to identify someone who already sold his company with a similare situation and contact him. For sure (s)he will be happy to share his/her experience. Also, you could find some VC or investor and just invite him/her for a lunch and have a productive talk (it worked amazingly well for me).
IE will still be deployed in Fortune 500 companies for years because Microsoft work closely with them.
Chrome has all I need: speed and addons. All the great addons for developping have been ported.
Why should I use FF?
For me the most important number is the height resolution as I can display more lines.
Having more screens is also a source of distraction. I prefer to focus on a single task and switch to an other if I need to.
However, for coding, you can display a lot more lines with a 27" than a 2*24" config.
Ask HN:How many screens for coding at one's best?
Hi,We are doing dev and are used to our 2 screens (2 * 19") but we are planning to buy new ones to improve our comfort. Our work: 100% coding. No video. No image. Our OS: Windows 7 + VMWare (Linux)We are unsure about the right move 2 * 24" or 1 * 27"?What is your screen configuration now (Pros and cons)? By your experience, which screen type is better for reading code? Thanks a lot for your...

I use cosine similarity and it works fine for my needs. ;)
As a classified ad owner (2nd largest in my country), doing so would only give a chance to a newcomer.

Too much noise in HN? (Open question)
Hi all,I have been a RSS subscriber for a long. I love HN but I have to admit that I get a little frustrated by the increasing percentage of noise. Especially by off-topic links.I spend now too much time sorting useless stuff (for my needs) for reading a few really good links.Do you also think there is too much noise? If many agree, maybe it will be a signal that it is now time to add some...
