I'd assume something sinister... There has to be a reason :)
Re:Microsoft announces Lists, a new Airtable-like app on Tuesday May 19, 2020 @04:48PM (#23240001)
Logical for MS to copy here. Airtable is such a powerful simple solution, I had people who had never worked with computers using it daily.

I've now built 2 companies on Airtable - thank you for building wonderful software! Right there next to Figma for me.

Hi, Tony here, Flower Co W19

I'm really keen on what you're working on. It's fantastic. I am a big believer in what you're doing.

I have some marketing ideas for you. I work in cannabis so I face all these same challenges of closed tech platforms.

Email is in profile, let's talk

If you're a reporter in the space who wants to know more about this, happy to share more.

This is just the tip of the iceberg.

FLOWER CO. (YC W19) | 1st Product Designer | FT in Los Angeles | https://flowercompany.com

FLOWER CO. is a wholesale cannabis membership club that saves consumers 40% on their favorite products and brands. We are hiring our first Product Designer!

The California cannabis market is $10 billion dollars of which $8 billion is still illicit. With taxes as high as 40%+ in cities like Los Angeles, consumers have little reason to participate in the regulated market. We seek to change this. Thanks to our membership program, scheduled delivery model (not on-demand), and our access to Humboldt County supply, we beat the illicit market on price.

Apply here: https://angel.co/flower-company

PS: Veterans and YC founders both get free lifetime memberships ($119/year normally!).

unfortunately, this. Oh you will be missed, especially by the kids! :(
We're big fans of Nabis here at Flower Co, my cofounders Ted and Scott were also their first customers at Humboldt Legends.

Congratulations ^.^

Love it
Re:Billboards are an old but booming ad medium on Tuesday November 13, 2018 @09:59AM (#18441400)
Cannabis companies are limited to only a few means of advertising so billboards are one of the best. FlowerCompany is finding strong results using them too.

https://FlowerCompany.com | Cannabis Wholesale Membership Club | VP Engineering, Comptroller | SF/East Bay | On Site

FlowerCompany is a wholesale membership delivery service that connects consumers directly to Humboldt County farmers. Members order over the weekend for pre-scheduled delivery the following Wednesday, Thursday, or Saturday with a 90-minute delivery window.

Membership starts at $79/year and members generally save ~40% on any purchase. Taxes on cannabis are as high as 38% in certain areas, so by lowering product prices, consumers save a lot of money on taxes too. Our mission is to beat black market prices while offering all the benefits of the regulated market, i.e. pesticide-free tested products, top-notch customer service, and a menu that is always fresh and exciting.

We're only 6 months old but we are scaling fast. We have 20 billboards up in SF this month and will be expanding across the state within the next 6-12 months.

If you're interested, please email [email protected] with your resume.

Thank you.

Re:More Americans report near-constant cannabis use on Monday August 20, 2018 @07:09PM (#17804961)
As someone who is running a cannabis company [1], this is concerning, but it ignores the fact that a majority of the members we service (we operate like Costco with a membership model) are in severe chronic pain. They use it as an alternative to opioids and that cannot be overlooked. Having lost multiple people close to me due to opioids, that needs to be dealt with first before we roll back the progress we've made with cannabis.

That's not to say we should be aware of the potential downsides, but there seems to be plenty of higher priorities that we should be focusing efforts first.

Re:Microsoft MakeCode on Wednesday January 17, 2018 @06:55PM (#16173257)
I'm really excited about this project! It seems like it's Google Blockly with a lot more bells and whistles. I'll have to dig into the code more to tell.

At BlockSchool, my online coding school for kids 6-13, we've had a pretty good experience using Blockly. We've managed to hook it up to our own Minecraft-esque world.

Google Wifi has been fantastic for me and it's cheaper. Easiest product I've ever setup too.
Wow, I had no idea Ant Financial was not part of Alibaba's main entity. Where can I learn more about this? I've done some work in China (even integrated Alipay/WeChat pay into an app) but had no idea this happened.
Re:Why Education Startups Do Not Succeed (2011) on Thursday November 16, 2017 @05:39AM (#15711610)
I am trying to build an online coding school for kids ages 6-13. I mostly agree with what's being stated because we already have customers in China, Korea, and Japan despite doing no marketing there. They are hard markets to ignore, especially when US parents are a harder sell. In order for us to be successful in the long-term, we must be a cross-border company.

Coding is one of the things that parents are increasingly willing to pay for, but it is still in the process of becoming a middle-class family demand.
