tonomics

This is just a distraction.

Our unfortunate reality is that of a socialization of investment; something discussed from Marx to Keynes.

In the next decades, the idea of investing become blur and centralized.

I'm not convinced a 'calm and rational conversation' would help either. Seems like his superiors were filled with aggressiveness and testosterone.
I don't understand the need to use the word 'Whites'.

Heroin has spiked and whites correspond to ~70-80% of the population, so obviously there will be many white addicts.

The 'Drug War' exists to fight heroin usage overall; it's not targeted at a race.

Re:China to begin two-child policy on Thursday October 29, 2015 @07:33AM (#10470273)
A pension crisis in China would be tremendously disastrous; something one can barely picture.

With growth and technology, fertility rates goes down and emerging markets, specially BRIC nations, will be severely affected by this.

Re:List of Y Combinator companies I have worked with (hacked) on Wednesday October 28, 2015 @09:49AM (#10464384)
Are they better for corporations and larger companies?
Re:Arriving in Berlin – A map made by refugees on Monday October 26, 2015 @02:06PM (#10453160)
You raise an interesting point, but the refugee 'crisis' is not driven by rationality, history, culture or even morality.

It's a sad, numb and nihilistic political game.

Re:Obesity is rising in Silicon Valley on Sunday October 25, 2015 @02:14PM (#10447739)
First semester living in the Valley, I gained ~30 lbs and realized the same happened to most new employees(not as much me).

Somehow, the company gave the idea of change/disruption/... and that made us work a lot more. Sometimes, 15 hours a day in front of a computer. Still, PMs and execs always got all credit and I started focusing on myself. It was NOT worth it.

I ended up regaining my health and I always remind hardworking friends they're playing their own game.

Re:The Myth of Welfare’s Corrupting Influence on the Poor on Sunday October 25, 2015 @02:04PM (#10447702)
" entire network of such entities by wealthy arch-conservatives and small-business organizations"

So, these 'evil networks' of small-business owners want less taxes to grow their business by making more money and employing more people?

I can't see how an employed and wealthy population could be a bad thing.

Re:The Myth of Welfare’s Corrupting Influence on the Poor on Sunday October 25, 2015 @01:50PM (#10447641)
R&D in Science and Technology(for military purposes) has nothing to do with a Welfare System.

DARPA is government spending towards national security, not 'investing taxes in people'.

Re:The Myth of Welfare’s Corrupting Influence on the Poor on Sunday October 25, 2015 @10:46AM (#10446985)
Same could be said about NY Times

>Many governments have economic advisers with degrees from the United States who share the same ideology

He's right, but the ideology is social democracy, not free market capitalism

Re:Ask HN: Are startups diluting their own market? on Saturday October 24, 2015 @11:35PM (#10445874)
No. Ideas are not as important as sensing what consumers need in the market.

It doesn't matter there are other 10^n distracting ideas, the real need of consumers will still be there.

For example, Theranos may be a distraction, but that doesn't change the underlying problems and demand for better healthcare.

The article does rely on the stereotype of "highly analytical without any empathy". That's obviously not the case for everyone.
Many here are misuderstanding "firm performance" with employee quality of life( that's fair!).

But, from the "shareholder value" perspective this might actually be true. Some despicable CEOs may actually be just as good as a friendly and passionate founding CEO

Re:Work on stuff that matters, first principles (2009) on Friday October 23, 2015 @03:25PM (#10440770)
Problem is that you don't really know what matters or is valuable when you're getting started.
If you're technical, they'll tell you to make money you need to learn X framework/library/language.

Instead, if you can communicate well, you turn a WordPress theme into millions.

Hm... no.

These innovations are just a child of capitalism, not something unexpectedly changing it.

Headline is indeed horrible, but there's some merit to the news. There could've been many other tax implications with Bitcoin and the article exposes that's not the case.
Re:Show HN: Staffjoy – Automated Workforce Scheduling on Thursday October 22, 2015 @01:49PM (#10433663)
Don't you guys think it could undermine contractors lives and even performance?

Sure, it's fair to pay for the hours you've worked, but tracking every minute of work could be overwhelming.

I'm pretty sure that's something many managers would do.

Anyone has more information about what subjects they'd offer?

Honestly, it's surprising this took so long to happen.

Re:I don’t need prejudice in online dating, too on Sunday October 18, 2015 @12:22PM (#10408656)
The prejudice isn't targeted at black women, but black people in general.
Re:Why Twitter’s Dying (And What You Can Learn from It) on Sunday October 18, 2015 @12:16PM (#10408629)
In a nutshell, as these companies grew(number of users), the utility of the community started to decline.

Think about it: what's the main use of Twitter? It might have fostered a great community in the past, but it's become too broad and filled with fake users, shallow communities and users.

Not self-promoting, but I've written about how many companies are facing the same issue as Twitter.

Re:Some companies in Sweden are testing a six-hour work day on Wednesday September 30, 2015 @06:18PM (#10307806)
Standardizing work always leads to problems.

Some individuals need 3 hours, others 12 hours. The only question is whether the job is done.
