it makes a lot of sense IMHO. it abstracts away dependency on exact SQLite version, but preserves a familiar SQL-like mental model. it is stable, mature, well understood and widely deployed/used (god i sound like a shill.. ;)
and has the added benefit that it can be implemented in two different flavours: as a standard JavaScript (ES3) library on top of WebSQL (or SQLite in Gecko), or as a first-class language extension with syntax sugar similar/related to array comprehensions (from JS1.7/Harmony/ES6)..
check out the two code samples, and a list of language extension (all feeling right at home in JS): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Language_Integrated_Query#Langu...
if it wasn't proposed, can someone from WHATWG (like you Brendan ;) politely ask Microsoft to "contribute" any related intellectual property to W3C? how likely do you think would it be for AAPL/GOOG to accept it? (and if not, it could simply be implemented as a thin layer above WebSQL ;)
if ever there was a genius (not throwing it out lightly) who knew what he was talking about...
you would have far better luck arguing that you are forced to use your real name on facebook (as it seems "everyone is on facebook", and thus "you must be also" is a valid sentiment), but even there it's a biiig stretch..
and i don't ever remember the controversy of real names on facebook..
well, how does buying novel/nortel patents protect your innovation? how does joining with MSFT to keep patents away from GOOG protect your innovation?
I’m not saying that my code needs to save the world or support
humanitarian causes, but it should at least be something that I like,
or I would use, or that I care about.
and i am not just talking about how awful search was. remember punch-the-monkey ads? i feel like google adwords is the second greatest internet invention.so i have to look at a couple of (non-intrusive, often related to my interest) ads, in order to pay for my access to any bit on information from anywhere in the world, in single-digit milliseconds?
and btw, google's self-driving cars? toootally about freeing-up more of your time to be able to watch even more ads -- because today, i don't look at ads (billboards) while i am driving..
(ask me why advertising is the only way to pay for a service like search at a scale like the internet -- with transaction costs and all that)
Another data point that highlights the discrepancy between the incredible
device activation numbers claimed by Google and actual real-world usage
of mobile devices. Example: Flickr’s stats on popular camera phones.
Where are these Android phones? How many of them are used for little
more than phone calls and texting?
http://www.flickr.com/cameras/apple/ ...
http://www.flickr.com/cameras/htc/if you just add up current top 4 models from one (of top 5) android manufacturer, you get 5+ million photos, half the number uploaded by iphone4 (the four models have been on the market roughly the same amount of time as iphone4).
This new high-end model will be called iPad Pro,
not iPad 2 Plus. Why? Well, first Apple isn’t
Samsung. The company doesn’t add prefixes and
suffixes except for ‘i’ and ‘Pro’.
is everyone who covers AAPL required to check his brain at the door?nano? classic? shuffle? touch? air? mini? x? ...?
Why the higher-end iPad model will be called iPad Pro
Web Apps as the Route for iPhone Development
[...]
It’s insulting, because it’s not a way to write iPhone apps, and you can’t bullshit developers. It’s a matter of spin.
[..]
If all you have to offer is a shit sandwich, just say it. Don’t tell us how lucky we are and that it’s going to taste delicious.
(compare to anything from gruber on web apps in 2010) http://daringfireball.net/
what about (back in the day) microsoft, (recently) adobe and (since the january battle call) google?
all the time?
a) How much would you pay for the new magical device iHype that will solve all your computing and media needs?
b) How much will you pay for a big iPhone (sans phone)?
