If this can really map prime numbers to a least a general region, would we be able to break Diffie-hellman key exchange more quickly?

If so this could be a huge blow to security.

But I must say this is amazing that they were able to visualize prime numbers in this way. These guys are geniuses.

Luck is important, but luck doesn't come to those that sit on their ass.
Re:Ask HN: My startup has basically failed. What now? on Monday April 30, 2018 @08:41AM (#16958069)
It sounds like you are in the dip. See Seth Godin's book on this subject.

https://www.amazon.ca/dip-Seth-Godin/dp/1591841666

I was in a very similar situation for one of my startups, a Shopify clone. We grew it to 50+ paying customers but stalled.

I ended up giving up all my shares to the other founders and taking a 2 year trip to Asia. The company managed to survive and was sold.

I don't regret it. Move on, if the team is good, you will reconnect and build something even better eventually.

Re:“Lifefaker.com makes faking perfection easy” on Monday April 30, 2018 @08:34AM (#16958020)
Darn, I was hoping to buy some of these and create a fake account to see how many followers I could accumulate, kind of like "Ultra superficial".
Will they put it back?

I mean I can't imagine them holding 7 million gallons of water per day for very long before they run out of storage space.

My guess is that they will process stuff with the water, then filter and send the water back into the lake.

I can sense the skepticism in the comments, but this is amazing news!

All those people suffering from lack will have a chance to take part in our modern abundance.

I can only imagine what will happen when NK opens it's doors to SK fully. There will be a massive demand for good and services. Exciting times!

Until we can change the perception that trade jobs are 'lower class' or unclean, we will continue to have vacancies.

I once remarked to a nephew who was thinking about what to do after high school that he should consider a trade. His parents overheard, and though they agreed it was good pay they didn't want their son doing that kind of work.

Upon reflection, I wouldn't want my son to do that kind of work as well, as it's usually hard work and not looked upon favorably.

That's a tough one... I guess it would make it better, but I'm not sure about how the taxes and relationship with the company would play out...
I'm starting to notice this trend as well.

I felt it was much easier to land a job in tech 2.5 years ago when I was last looking.

Maybe we are reaching a point of too many engineers and not enough jobs?

I'm surprised they were able to reattach the nerves as well. Isn't that something that can't be reattached after being severed.

If nerve reattachment now is possible, can't we cure quadriplegics?

I'm surprised no one mentioned bitcoin mining... this would be great to capture the excess low grade heat and change it back into electricity.
I spent days almost 10 hours, completing a massive interview project for one company. I submitted a fully working solution, had unit test, was pixel perfect, and they didn't even give me an interview.

Not only that they gave me a vague reason, only after pressing for feedback.

Left a very bad taste in my mouth, don't think I'll be doing code assignments again, what a waste of time.

Feels like the movie "Limitless".
Would you use the service if it was 3x more expensive?
This assumes that people want to do coffee / burger flipping on a fixed schedule. Most Uber drivers I have talked to like the flexibility.
Vs. 0 dollars if these services did not exist.
Re:The History of Bathing in Soup Broth on Wednesday February 28, 2018 @09:02AM (#16482994)
We have a similar practice in Chinese culture, after a woman gives birth, they must take baths with ginger for a few weeks. My mother in-law actually spent hours cutting up enough ginger for my wife.

If you have parents that are willing to go above and beyond for their child, a healthy child is sure to follow.

Now we just need it to do the javascript ...
Re:Dropbox Files Confidentially for U.S. IPO on Thursday January 11, 2018 @12:59PM (#16126037)
Would be great to know what day the IPO will be.

Why is there no easy place to see this?

Re:IPhones start slowing down after a year on Thursday December 21, 2017 @01:32PM (#15981478)
FYI, I ran the benchmark with power from wall and with out, and got the same performance. It appears to check battery life before deciding core speed.

I just ran Geekbench with it plugged in. Got the same crappy performance with an iPhone 6, getting 1000, when it should be 1400. Here I was hoping a battery case would do the trick.
Re:iPhone Performance Degrades as Battery Ages on Wednesday December 20, 2017 @09:48AM (#15969941)
Wow I was, wondering what the heck was happening with my Iphone 6 plus. I new it had something to do with the software update, but it makes sense now, they had to make a choice, so they limited the CPU based on battery...

At least it wasn't because they are trying to force us to upgrade. I'm going to try an update the battery and see if it makes a difference.

Articles like this remind me how little I know about bitcoin.

I just recently learnt how difficulty works, so something like this is perfect for understanding the hashing part of the protocol.

If I'm playing with someone that is making AK47's into utensils, I would think twice about raising my concerns regarding the loaded dice.

Hmm the dice are behaving funny, but that's fine, everything is just fine...

I really wish they had a confirmation screen for comment submitting, or a way to delete comments :P

Great! Now they can fit even more superheroes into one movie...

What they forgot to mention some of these services can't be used yet.

Many of their launches pages just lead you to a signup page... such as the transcription service...
