With talk here of Ruby stagnating, has anyone checked out Crystal? I have not but have been curious about it.
Shout out to Cube for giving us the ENet library.
Anyone using it for game dev? Like just having the agent try to build a game?
I was 9 when I first played EverQuest - I'm now 35. That game taught me how to type on a keyboard.
Probably the game that influenced my life the most. RIP Brad, and shout out to the team.
I think if you made this a plugin for an existing engine, say Godot, you could get a lot of use out of it. I'd use it!
Why? He's made significant contributions to political discourse and science.
This might be a terrible idea, and likely would never work for a multitude of reasons, but I was wondering if everyone in the future were gaming via streaming services that way players wouldn’t be running the game on their own hardware or software.
Makes me think of

I've been thinking about using Obsidian as a static site generator.
I want to work on a grid-based inventory system similar to those found in aRPGs and extraction games in the Godot engine.
Is this a competitor to Heroiclabs (Nakama, Hiro, Satori)? Just trying to understand more where Talo fits. Seems like it's Hiro + Satori wrapped in one, but minus Nakama which would be the game server.
Sounds cool. I'm interested in netcode using Godot. Is there a Git repo I can check out?
What did you get from it? I read it, but like most self-help books - I felt like it could've been 1/4 the size. The book could've been 10-20 pages.
Once the message is clear, they become a slog IMO. The author was smart in coming up with something catchy like "deep work" to mean, you get shit done and do some of your best work and learning when you have time set aside being distraction free.

I'm late to the table, but I've been reading about blockchain. Searching 'blockchain' led to lots of discussions about what its purpose is and which problems it solves - if any.The general consensus (in my opinion), seems to be that its only real useful application had been in cryptocurrencies. From my view, cryptocurrencies are here to stay, but there is still a lot of dissent that crypto is a...
1) You love the Ruby programming language.
2) It's battle-tested. Tried and true. Batteries included. Can have a web app with most functionality needed running in minutes.
3) There are more reasons, but there are other good options as well. No reason to use Rails if you're not interested in Ruby.
Damn this looks sweet! I’m gonna check this out. Cool project!
I'm depressed studying computer science. Been thinking about quitting seeing how people with years of experience can't even find work.
I can’t believe it has gone this far. I was flying out of Logan airport (Boston) and had to have my face scanned right boarded the plane. There was nothing about opting out. It seemed like I didn’t comply, I wasn’t flying.
I hate this. Feels so wrong and dystopian. They need to abolish this. It’s so unnecessary.
Seems like the site is getting the HN Hug of Death: <The connection has timed out>
I'm also on HIBP over 10x. What are we supposed to do? Create a new email address for every service we sign up for?
I don't know what the best practice is for keeping our personal data safe anymore.
The comments make me feel disheartened to be studying computer science hoping to get into the industry.
Seemed like 6 years or so ago people made it sound like this was the best industry to get into. Recruiters hitting people up left and right, six figure salaries, work from home, sometimes interesting work instead of CRUD and React.
Now I wonder if I’m making a mistake and should be going after a trade but I enjoy technology and writing code and don’t want to do physical labor.

I’m a hobbyist game developer and I’ve been on here for years. The content seems fascinating but honestly I understand almost nothing that’s being said here even though I’ve programmed on and off for years.Anyone else? Makes ya feel like a dumb-dumb.
> I have often thought about writing a blog from my experiences, but after I write the thoughts down seem like common sense in nature or just plain ranting.
Same. Trying to get over that and just write anyway.
Maybe this is a totally different market from what I'm in, but as an indie game developer, this reads dystopian to me.
Is there something similar to RecurseChat but for Windows?
As someone enrolled in a bachelors program for computer science, this terrifies me.
Makes me wonder if I’m wasting my time and should be perusing something else.
I think there should be strict laws around outsourcing. Maybe companies that pay X amount of taxes (related to their earnings) have to ensure Z amount of their employees are nationals.
It just doesn’t seem fair that they get to take advantage of their home countries infrastructure while providing employment to other countries.
I was laid off due to outsourcing.
Some of my fondest memories are LAN parties. We used to play all sorts of games, some of the usual suspects like Counter-Strike, Age of Empires II, etc, but my favorite is when we did 3v3 DotA.
We had three people in one room on a team, and the opposing team in another room. The winning team would walk into the room after the match to talk about the highlights, but the losing team would say "Nope, get out, let's run it back!"
