Re:Ask HN: Alternatives to GitHub on Monday August 17, 2026 @02:21PM (#49335393)
Maybe the big cloud’s git solutions? Not to say the are good alternatives, but for teams already on the clouds, they could be a easier migration with somewhat feature complete, uptime, security promises that execs are looking for.

At work, we have repos on GitHub and Azure DevOps. Today, GitHub went down, but our repos (including PRs, CIs) worked as normal on Azure DevOps

We spent our civilisation to go from “What’s that loud boom with bright light in the sky? Must be Gods angry at us” to “Oh, it’s thunder, caused by rapid heating and expansion of air”

You know how some say the big brother sells junk food, then “solutions” to lose weight?

Maybe companies today are being sold junk AI, and next step is being promised “solutions”.. capitalism is working exactly as expected

As long as the global population is still rising, they will be carnage between competitions. The author and many others might be foresee the (near) future where the global population start declining, maybe then, we can do things just because we can.

Are we seeing forum moderations (e.g., Discourse trust levels^[1]) coming to source code repositories?

Re:Ask HN: Where do all the web devs talk? on Tuesday February 03, 2026 @07:09AM (#46869977)
Exactly. Many senior devs don’t want talk about the latest updates but those topics are usually what’s trending on X/YouTube/or even HN.

Let’s face it, how many times does those new features really “revolutionise” or make a real dent in our work? Or are the content creators just using them as click baits to get views and engagements which eventually can turn into monetary or network values for them?

Real talks are getting hard to find in this attention economy plus bots rampage across the internet.

Re:The Overcomplexity of the Shadcn Radio Button on Tuesday January 20, 2026 @06:42AM (#46690800)
So for a React developer who doesn't want to include Shadcn/Radix, but also doesn't have time to build every component/a11y/compat/edge cases from scratch, what are the better alternatives?

Would be nice to list them here so developers can know a midpoint between DIY <-> Shadcn/Radix

Someone build a commercial wrapper around this, and sell it at (huge) music festivals as alternative message tools???
Re:A letter to those who fired tech writers because of AI on Thursday January 15, 2026 @01:06PM (#46636589)
I’m already seeing colleagues at work using AI to generate documentations and then call it a day. It’s like they are oblivious to how _ugly_ and _ineffective_ the AI generated AI slops are:

- too many emojis - too many verbose text - they lack the context of what’s important - critical business and historical context are lost - etc..

They used AI to satisfy the short-term gain: “we have documentation”, without fully realising the long-term consequences of low quality. As a result, imo we’ll see the down spiral effects of bugs, low adoption, and unhappy users.

Other than general security practices, here are few NPM ecosystem specific ones: https://github.com/bodadotsh/npm-security-best-practices
Re:JavaScript Engines Benchmarks on Monday November 17, 2025 @06:30AM (#45952698)
Merge rates is definitely a useful signal, but there are certainly other factors we need consider (PR small/big edits, refactors vs deps upgrades, direct merges, follow up PRs correcting merged mistakes, how easy it is to setup these AI agents, marketing, usage fees etc). Similar to how NPM downloads alone don’t necessarily reflect a package’s true success or quality.
Re:Sunsetting Create React App on Friday February 21, 2025 @04:56PM (#43133538)
This type of comment doesn't contributing to anything. Rememebr most devs just code for work, and don't want to learn a new language/ecosystem _just_ so they can use a different framework.

Good to see I'm not the only who wants a cleaner newsfeed to cut through this information overload noises. Coincidentally, I also spent the last weekend building a curated, HN-based newsfeed for the busy web developers: lessnews.dev[1]

Re:Show HN: Newsfeed for Busy Web Developers on Thursday February 20, 2025 @02:26PM (#43118993)
Hey everyone, wanted to show you my new side project: lessnews.dev

It's a curated, high-quality newsfeed for web developers — only deliver relevant links, but not too frequently so it's not another doomscrolling site. I came up with the idea after personally feeling overwhelmed by the amount of posts online. There are platforms like daily.dev, but I wanted something faster, simpler, and more focused.

The site was built over a weekend, so it's still early-stage, but you can already: - Browse the latest links - Mark articles as read - Subscribe via RSS - Submit links

More features might come later, but the core idea will stay the same: a newsfeed for busy web developers.

Check it out and let me know what you think!
