Re:Zed Is Our Office on Thursday November 13, 2025 @11:42PM (#45923909)
Their collab feature looks promising. But I can't move to Zed yet, because it's laggy on both my Linux laptop and workstation. They need to fix these issues first.
Re:Claude Code: Now in Beta in Zed on Wednesday September 03, 2025 @12:06PM (#45117370)
I feel like the UI is not as smooth as VSCode. There is a slight lag when scrolling.

It's the "—".

After Gemini gave an answer, i asked, "convert to latex". Then it asked, "To convert what to LaTeX?". Every other LLM would know what I wanted.
So, I should abandon my laptop that I bought in 2017 and buy a new one???
Re:LaTeX and Neovim for technical note-taking on Wednesday February 21, 2024 @02:22PM (#39458252)
I have been using Typst[1] for taking notes on machine learning. The web based editor is fast (updates are instantaneous). The syntax is almost like Markdown. I tried to learn LaTeX but Typst seems to have an easier learning curve.

Re:Dart/Flutter now has macros/metaprogramming on Tuesday January 30, 2024 @11:28PM (#39199923)
> A macro declaration is a user-defined Dart class that implements one or more new built-in macro interfaces. Macros in Dart are written in normal imperative Dart code. There is not a separate "macro language".

Well, everybody seems to recommend "Crafting Interpreters". And that's what I'm following now.

Re:Compiling Rust for .NET, using only tea and stubbornness on Tuesday August 29, 2023 @07:33AM (#37306190)
Amazing work.
Is it worth watching this series if I want to develop operating systems and write drivers for USB, GPU and other stuffs? I just love interfacing with hardware devices.
Re:Reverse Engineering the Facebook Messenger API on Friday April 07, 2023 @06:49PM (#35488080)
I know Kotlin and Java. Can you point me to any resources on this?
I use nvim mostly when I want to edit some conf file in the terminal. Recently I wanted to change that. So I tried AstroNvim, but it was so slow, like I was getting input lags. Now I am using mainly vscode and helix. I want to use vim so badly, but I can't.
Re:Tell HN: Microsoft Teams is blocking Firefox Nightly on Sunday March 05, 2023 @12:03PM (#35031463)
This may be unrelated. Is it legal to ship a Firefox fork as a distribution with a Chrome user agent by default?
Re:Learn Vim (2021) on Saturday February 25, 2023 @09:20AM (#34936860)
I really want to use vim, but I can't because it's laggy whenever I try to use a premade setup like AstroNvim. I don't want to learn how to setup my vim enviroment. I want a VSCode-like experience in vim, out-of-the-box. I have used Helix for some time, but it has it's annoyances.

Is Nix like Gentoo, where I have to compile after each update? Or does it download the new updated binary packages?
Re:Sudo Replacement on Friday January 20, 2023 @12:10PM (#34456233)
Understood. Thanks.
Re:Sudo Replacement on Friday January 20, 2023 @11:11AM (#34455094)
Wait? it doesn't make any sense. So any userspace program can call `setuid(0)` and `execv()`? Why is there sudo in the first place? I am not getting it.
Re:Emulating Windows system calls in Linux(2020) on Sunday January 15, 2023 @07:55PM (#34395442)
Did the patch get merged? Are they thinking of other ways to trap the syscalls?
Re:Firefox for Android Added Save as PDF on Tuesday December 27, 2022 @05:02AM (#34147231)
Thanks, that fixed it.
Re:Firefox for Android Added Save as PDF on Monday December 26, 2022 @01:08PM (#34140131)
I am using Firefox in Android, these are some of the issues i am facing:

- Scrolling is slow on multiple sites like raycast.com

- The UI doesn't feel home for me, at least it has dark mode on Android 9 (my phone doesnt get updates)

- Tapping new tab doesn't actually create a new tab, instead asks for a URL

- Searching for World cup matches in google only shows the goal score, I guess it's a google search issue, but in chrome I get detailed scorecards

- Tab list view feels janky, why does it automatically switch to another tab, even though I am not closing the current tab? (this happens sometimes)

I will keep using Firefox because Chrome bad.

But using the title bar is what most of us are used to.
Re:Notes on Saudi Arabia on Saturday November 26, 2022 @06:06AM (#33751700)
What? I used to wear western clothes. Occasionally I would wear Saudi dresses, e.g. at a funeral.
Re:Notes on Saudi Arabia on Saturday November 26, 2022 @05:40AM (#33751584)
Here is what I will say about Saudi Arabia as I lived there for 18 years from my birth as a non-Saudi:

Most non-Saudis have a job at a company. Most of my friends' fathers had large businesses of various types. And almost all the people who have jobs have fair wages.

I felt so safe living there, going out to the beach with my family at 2 am is no worry at all.

Most of the people in Saudi Arabia are very friendly.

I know I'll get downvoted, but as a Muslim, this is the best place to live. Muslims want the Sharia law and all the other Islamic stuffs including hijab, prayers and what not.

Ask HN: Should I open source my next project?

Hi HN,4-5 years ago, I created a desktop application called Laravel Kit[1] and open sourced it. The repo has almost 1k stars on GitHub. I was eagerly waiting for a single donation to come to my PayPal. Because I was young and needed to make money through coding without the hassle of managing a business. And I managed to get 0$ donation. But I still push updates to it.I have some software...

Well, this could be done this way,

1. A Linux VM which has steam installed on it. 2. A project like virglrenderer[1] for macOS and which processes Vulkan commands from the VM with virtio-gpu and sends data back. (I don't exactly know how it's done.)

This would allow games on the Linux VM's steam run at near-native GPU performance. On the CPU side, there still a need for instruction emulation like QEMU. Or, Apple posted somewhere that you can run x86_64 Linux binaries inside the VM with the help of Rosetta. or an ARM64 Linux VM with Steam running via FEX-Emu.

Unsafe code is not bad code.
Also, WinUI in GitHub is not totally open source I think. I could not find how Button was implemented.
