Re:Why I Self-Funded My Startup on Tuesday March 18, 2014 @04:34AM (#7420785)
This is a great piece. I too started a company just 5 months ago. Fully bootstrapped and now con track to do 7 figures this year. Cash is king. You'll also be protected from the bubble when it goes BOOM :).

It's interesting... the design of the site is very 2004ish, but it is surprisingly refreshing. Anyone?

Haha, spot on.

I am attempting to bootstrap and do it all myself.

I've made sure to omit the HN hits from GA.

Interesting. Foodies actually refer to this as a balsamic reduction / balsamic glaze. Do you use a lot of balsamic vinegar?

Ah, thank you! I can't believe we're missing this. We'll add it.

Bounce rates continues to rise. To fight it, I've tried to simplify the site and have even removed the blog from the main page and moved it to a tab in the header. Mistake? Good idea?
Not only is this overly-pessimistic, but your assertions are largely unfounded.

VCs are not out to "stick-it" to anyone. They want to be a part of a great deal just as much as the next person.

Key bottleneck is that the process is too slow. Not designed for today's 15-minute world.

Agreed. More smaller cap funds and accelerate deal closing. Shouldn't take three months to raise. Right team, right product/pitch and they should be on their way iterating as fast as possible.

This could also potentially shorten length of runway needed. If you knew you could raise in 30 days... you wouldn't need 12 months of runway. Much more efficient for the entire ecosystem.

Re:The worlds first "Balsamic Subscription" on Sunday June 30, 2013 @11:26PM (#5968454)
We do a lot of repeat business, so when I came across Recurhub.com... I immediately realized we needed to create a subscription balsamic option!

Note: just pushed this live about 5 minutes ago. Would appreciate any flaws or breaks that are found. Thank you HN!

There's no doubt about it. Wish they had stuck to their decision.

+1 to pinaceae
Well, not fully defeat, but you could make yourself less of a target by using a series of shell accounts and effectively laundering the money.

Just Google laundering. Techniques are widely publicized and accessible.
