News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

Sure, more interesting than just pure CPU performance will be improvements to GPU, image processing, ML and others though - at least in my eyes.

If we'll just look at geekbench's single core bench, I'm sure Apple will still lead. (And overall likely still produce the better chips.)

Guess we'll see (maybe) in December (Snapdragon 875 will be announced December 1st at Qualcomms Digital Summit) - or a bit later, but the 875, now also on 5nm, supposedly will be quite a bump. Leaked (supposed) benchmarks show 30%+ improvement, which would be A14 territory.

I also have my doubts, but would be great for the market. (New Exynos 2100 supposedly also being up there.)

That would be a great device to also include a touchscreen in a mac for the first time... after all macOS is getting more and more touch-capable UI and got iOS app support. :)

But like you said, likely would eat into the iPad market - on the other side, as long as they don't make it a 2-in-1, the iPad should still have more than enough reason to exist.

> That blows my mind. Microsoft has had an ARM version of Windows for years. I would have thought they would have lept to support Bootcamp on these new Macs.

Why and for who though? Yes, there is an ARM version of windows, but there is pretty much no software for it - and most of the Windows ARM software (Office?) likely has already iOS versions and will have upcoming Mac ARM versions.

I have the feeling that 99%+ of Bootcamp users use it for x86 software.

I mean, the 5600X is about double the price of the 3600, depending on when you got the latter.

That's not the problem. Even if you allow them you'll get scrutinized by recaptcha currently. Seems like a fix is on the way though.

Which seemingly is getting worse and worse, especially like the last 2? weeks.

They will, that is already confirmed. With both focus on single-player (and especially the experience for new players), but also multiplayer & esports.

Part of the dev team will be guest on tomorrows episode of The Pylon Show (SC2 esports podcast), live at 5:45 PM PDT I think.

Just a follow up:

1) Don't think you miss much, don't see how it's supposed to provide me a better "mental space" as lets say a notion note.

2) I guess the only thing you're missing is daily at least one email from them...

Revenue according to the article $272 million in Q2 (with a $100.7 million loss in the quarter).
For those also wondering how much the lease would've been:

Why do you ask for my mail during sign-up and then continue to only offer oauth with google or apple.

WordPress Agrees to Add In-App Purchases After Apple Cut Off Updates

I'm surprised that this was worth only an (somewhat hidden) update on the The Verge article (which can't be resubmitted) and didn't pick up any additional reporting, articles or notable tweets:> Mullenweg tells The Verge he’s not going to fight it anymore, though — he will add brand-new in-app purchases for WordPress.com’s paid tiers, which include domain names, within 30 days. Apple has...

Can't sell that $10/month subscription then though

+1 - what's wrong with b-corps and what's better?
Trump's account got deleted in the past by a twitter employee. (Potentially through the same tool?)

Pretty sure Twitter communicated after that that they took precautions that this won't be able to happen again.

I guess the question is why other high profile accounts like Obama's weren't secured the same way.

Remarkable if Microsoft really thought they could just buy two big streamers (and a couple of smaller ones) to get Mixer going and that Twitch market share - without making much change to the platform and its community.

"A typical Microsoft" I guess?

Big pay day for Ninja & Shroud though if they're really just free to join Twitch again, their returns will be huge.

First line of the article ;)

thought I was the only one remembering it -> https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=12506232

surprised nobody bought it for that price (or potentially even less).

> Seems like Spotify might be adding video later in the year but until that happens, we don't know what we will be getting.

He stays on YT 'til January 2021. Then Spotify is supposed to have full or more like better (because they already have) video support ready.

Will there also be an option for client-side encryption without using your sync service?

Timing of the announcement isn't a coincidence though I'd guess.

Isn't it more like AMD dropped the embargo (partially) because Lenovo, ASUS and others wanted to get their devices out?

> but I thought Firefox had battery issues on MacOS.

Does it still, are you referring to 70+? Firefox 70 in October came with big improvements[1], I didn't do any testing though. I think I saw some benchmarks showing it's slightly worse than Chrome, but it was minor. Can't find them right now unfortunately.

Interesting, I visited it from IPs from all around the world through different desktop browsers and it's available everywhere BUT there is no author and no author bio.

If that's (kind of) on purpose that's really weird, to suspend somebodies account but leave the article up and remove all the author references. Anybody from medium on hn :)?
