When I am tired, it's when I know I am alive.

Either that, or something nasty like the Gonchong from the Fighting Fantasy book series Island of the Lizard King.

I would post a link, but the only standalone topic page is on a Fandom site, which counts as doubly morbid.

It reminded me I need to go out and buy copies of Frog and Toad Complete for my kid and his friends.
Re:You Are No Longer Invited to Dinner on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @02:14PM (#49897908)
Extroverted what, though? Introverted what?

You can't just say "Oh boy am I an introvert." and just leave it at that.

Some people are extroverted picking their nose. Let me explain what I mean. That means they do it in front of others and don't give a fuck, or they might apologise when they get called out, and just do it all over again next minute. That's me. Other people are introverted picking their nose. They go away in private and they go ahead and pick their nose now that nobody is around. They're not necessarily in denial about it, and sometimes you can get them on the topic and compare notes. That's my wife.

> saviour my daily sandwich!

I also like to do this, only I say the words

Give us this day our daily sandwich...
This is cool, but I for one hope to be able to continue to work until my last dying day.

Or maybe a nice sabbatical aboard a sailboat expedition.

The guy sold the domain and was literally able to buy the laptop that got him out of his dire financial situation.

Oh, thank you, what a lovely choice of text. I wonder if your parents meant for you to read it?

My sister mentioned to me recently she has a print of Wild Geese by Mary Oliver on the back of her bathroom door. Your quotation made me think of her poem.

Re:Why is Everyone in Tech so sad? on Friday August 07, 2026 @04:02PM (#49215551)
This is such a neat comment! If you concentrate, it's very near the metre and prose of a Dr Seuss story, like the Lorax or the Sneetches.
Re:Archaeologists Find Ancient Glyphs in the Amazon on Tuesday August 04, 2026 @07:00AM (#49166868)
Anyone else instantly picture the Glyph of Gallantry lying amongst jungle vegetation in a Heroes of Might and Magic 3 map?

Huh, this'll probably do more than just improve sleep.
And still others may be allergic to LaTeX.

I expect the gen xers are using the word in a cynical sense.
Re:How to Write English Prose on Monday July 27, 2026 @06:56AM (#49067713)
Lest that comment be misconstrued for what sister comments frame as anger (are they not merely nonplussed?), I am happy for the writing to be. Except that all good writing is edited.

Presently I am reading Hilary Mantel, an exemplary prose writer of the highest merit, so I trust you'll forgive me my Jeevesian dismay at style of The Florid Article.

Re:How to Write English Prose on Sunday July 26, 2026 @07:20PM (#49063350)
I can't remember who, but someone definitely said "if you want to write, you must first fill a chest with writing, then lock that chest, take out a blank sheet and then you can begin".

TFA as well as many other works of blog, belong in that chest.

I have come to the same conclusion, especially in regards to anything affecting digestion, from food poisoning, campylobacter, salmonella, giardia, to any gut parasites or just bad bacteria. It can change your gut physiology, mess with enzyme production long term, fucking up your diet by reducing the kinds of foods you can eat. There's also the possibility of bowel cancer pathways via such diseases, which I read is currently under investigation.
That's where it's all goin'. Private, outta sight. Keep the 'bots out, an' you keep the man out.

Oh, sorry I was referring to the cosmological principle [1]. The wiki page is actually quite a good summary of the whole fiasco.

I will say that the current and future telescope lineup is amazing and is bound to reveal: even more fascinating insights and mysteries!
Re:Astrophysicists Puzzle over Webb's New Universe on Saturday July 04, 2026 @07:39AM (#48784670)
I took a good long look at the CMB picture, including the caption. It basically says the Universe was one big hot apparently uniform ball at one stage.

I don't know what conditions were like before that stage, but like Eric Idle says, nothing can come from nothing.

Dark energy is a horse shit name for a theory that was horse shit to begin with. The Universe is probably just inhomogeneous, like your intuition is saying.

Good, the grader should hone that skill at pace then.
