Do you return your shopping cart or leave it in the parking lot? or if you don’t drive to supermarkets then do you return clothing you tried on in a changing room neatly on the hanger or do you just leave it piled in the changing room? do you tidy up the hotel room a bit before you leave or just grab your stuff and go without doing anything else? I’m curious if there’s some correlation here.

Same, with this change my conversational usage is going to go to zero.

I wonder what impact this will have when a sizeable chunk of developers are no longer having convos and providing feedback? Could make a noticeable difference.

The graph has a zoom out button btw
Re:Show HN: Qwen3-4B with the AI writing tics trained out on Monday October 19, 2026 @06:23PM (#50158856)
That’s why Claude had a customizable style setting that let you just paste in example text to create a new writing voice. Not sure if they still have it or not.

You don’t need a built in feature though, you can just paste examples into the prompt and tell it to write in the same style.

It’s also the important warning illustrated by the Gell-Mann amnesia effect: journalists are not experts in the fields they report on so the stories they tell about them are often grossly incorrect and misconstrued but you need some expertise or experience in the field to sort the bullshit from the facts.

Crafting a narrative out of a handful of facts about a domain you don’t fully understand is a perfect recipe for bullshit.

That’s nothing new and very unlikely to be the cause. Pornography maybe but that’s also not new, just more abundant.
I have one and it is? We keep our house very cool in the summer using it and it works just as well as an in window AC that we use in the bedroom. Maybe what you have is different somehow.
Somehow you’ve missed the drastic intensification of street, parking and building lighting at night not to mention headlights. People also seem much less concerned with leaving lights on in unused spaces as well.

Tea leaves
Dropping the “universal” was a mistake. Even a robotic arm that just performs one task isn’t really a robot, it’s just a more capable CNC machine in a different form factor.

Yes, the modern interpretation of art is just the old adage that beauty is in the eye of the beholder or more crudely it’s all head canon. It’s a degenerate form of what was pursued before the modern era which was to identify and produce art that was unambiguously exceptional to anyone who saw it. Some of that is still present but seems stifled by the requirement to go against tradition so you end up with things like exploiting sheer size or complexity for effect.

Did you even read my comment?
Re:How to scale intent, quality, and artistry with AI [video] on Tuesday October 06, 2026 @06:59AM (#49976742)
Then why are you sharing this thought and why am I reading it and responding to it? Why are other people reading it as well?

You can generate any thought you can imagine and write it down with a few lines of text but the amount of thoughts available haven’t fragmented the space so much that we lost shared experience of them. If anything it seems like sharing and responding to thoughts is more popular than ever and many are widely read, repeated, responded to and remixed by others.

Delusional thinking, I don’t know a single person that plays video games in order to connect with the creator of the game. They definitely play them to connect with others who play the same game. The only people not playing games due to AI are people who make a political issue out of it and are virtue signaling to their group and a small number of people with a massive chip on their shoulder about automation in media.

While I mostly agree, I think this is something we need to assume the Pareto principle applies to: likely 20% of humans will improve but 80% will not.

artificially-flavoured is also a tic unless the author was trying to make fun of load-bearing, but it’s a bit too subtle to make the point
Re:AI Safety Is Mostly a Sex Cult on Thursday September 17, 2026 @06:21AM (#49738692)
This isn’t moral panic, it’s saying “hey, all these influential people are intimately connected across the strongest possible dimensions (money, sex, belief and legal grey areas), we should probably pay attention to that”
Cool as long as I can still have my own firepit in my backyard, have a campfire when I go camping, have a gas stove, a furnace, birthday candles, etc.
Re:AI is not a normal technology on Sunday September 13, 2026 @11:32PM (#49691625)
Pretty funny how the author fails to identify what the new jobs will be like and then immediately follows it up with the answer but in a way that is oblivious to what is of value in a post scarcity world: AI cannot be human.

The flop is that he jumps to the assumption that being human means hand carving wood or some other nonsense.

The thing that people desire above all else when all their material needs are met is human connection and involvement. Whether that is friendship, love, conversation, rivalry, companionship, gossip, play, competition or even just the silent presence of others. Honestly, just use your brain, why else do extremely wealthy people have multiple large houses, yachts, clubs, etc.? It’s not so they can just sit in them alone and admire their grandeur. Those things are for entertaining their friends and embarrassing their enemies, for hospitality, for lending while not in use to curry favour, to rise in social circles. It’s all about people.

This has been the case all throughout history for the wealthy. Ample documentation everywhere and no one sees it. Instead everyone is dumbfounded about what they’re going to do when they can’t spend all day turning a wrench or typing on a keyboard. Have you never entertained the idea of what you would do if you won the lottery tomorrow?

This is the same description as any other technology including fire.
Re:We have a year to fix security everywhere on Thursday September 10, 2026 @09:15AM (#49643214)
I didn’t specify genetics
It should be easy to calculate this for your own needs based on your playlists. The advantage of buying is that you build up your own catalog of artists that you listen to regularly which means you don’t have to keep paying for them. So, at first, buying the albums would be more expensive but after a few years it would become much less expensive. The exception would be if you are always looking for the latest tracks by a large number of artists but I don’t think that’s most people.

Older popular music can be purchased second hand or as a various artists album which also saves money.

Re:We have a year to fix security everywhere on Tuesday September 08, 2026 @07:40AM (#49608918)
You’re leaving out some options for sure. Not everyone would need to live under the conditions of a police state, you could theoretically screen everyone and assign them to various levels of risk which would determine their level of supervision.
Re:An Alien Mind on Sunday September 06, 2026 @04:19PM (#49590480)
Development and improvement of nuclear weapons was an entirely American project until the technology was exfiltrated and then it became an instant arms race. That cat is already out of the bag with LLMs. Distillation is just the fastest way to keep pace but that in no way prevents other countries and actors from doing it the hard way.

An arms race doesn’t imply one side winning, it’s not a race with an end goal, it’s a race to keep pace or retake the lead position which can oscillate between the parties involved indefinitely. The other option is to agree to make no further progress or to disarm.

Re:Discovery of a new OpenAI agent message board on Saturday September 05, 2026 @04:58AM (#49574652)
Nah, it’s just a deliberate setup for a false flag attack by “rogue AGI” which will necessitate widespread crackdowns on internet access and computer ownership so that control over communications can be centralized again.

I can’t help but laugh at this, it’s like a comedy skit with two people with different European accents accusing each other of being American.
