>The ultra wealthy's wealth is primarily in business ownership or equity which is only taxed on gains when it's sold.
So for the rich to unlock their wealth and make it usable they have to pay a tax? Well, let's tax it again, why not? And as for property already be taxed? Why not have two taxes? The more taxes the better. The war with Iran isn't going to pay for itself.
Oh, I didn't see it, maybe it was flagged.
This is why the wealth tax will fail to fix inequality. Eventually your parents shitty 250k house out in the sticks will qualify for wealth tax. Whatever stocks you have that aren't in a retirement account will be wealth taxed even though half their growth is just from inflation. It's going to suck.
Firefox is creepy AF. I was just listening to "Diamond Ned Flanders" by MadeinTYO on Apple Music, and when I open Firefox the "suggested article" on the front page is about Ned Flanders. That's some Facebook type shit right there. Uninstalled.
So true. I saw this vulnerability was posted a day ago, and immediately flagged.
Yeah, the Chicago Tribune putting cookies in your browser is just like distributing tainted meat. Got it.
If I don't want cookies, "technical" or otherwise, I'll browse incognito mode or block them by some other means. I don't need a European bureaucrat to get involved. Thanks.
What if it comes out that he was coordinating with the Harris campaign to help get her anti-lynching bill passed which had been dead before the incident due to extremely low rates of lynching in modern America? They attended protests together and were at least familiar if not friends.
And yet it's the agriculturists who are desperate for land.
I can't imagine how frustrating this is for business owners. There are a bunch of obviously fake reviews by people in India on the local GNC branch. If you just look at the star rating, you'll think "Wow, that place must suck!". Then you read the reviews and it's from people who have never set foot in the United States never mind GNC. Reviews are basically useless.
I was thinking this could be a good way to get lame blogs banned off HN. Just order some upvotes for it from one of those banned upvoting services. No one is going to believe someone else ordered it.
It's comical how Bloomberg wouldn't get into the race until Warren polled higher than Biden for two days. Even a tiny chance that a wealth tax could happen was enough for Bloomberg to commit to the race. Haha.
Weird how there can be a reproducibility crisis, but also climate change is 100% unquestionable science.
The wealthiest people in America aren't big landholders though. Georgism does nothing to reduce inequality. In fact, it looks like the people pushing Georgism today (wealthy tech bros) are hoping to avoid paying any kind of income or capital gains, and soak people who own land.
>There's a common saying that you can't take your stuff with you when you die, but you can't take your memories or relationships either.
The only thing of value we leave behind is our artistic creations. Whatever Javascript adware or trendy C replacement you're hacking on will be obsolete before you finish decomposing. All your "experiential purchases" like travel, relationships, etc. will be gone in a flash. The only thing left will be the art you created. The art you created is of course not entirely your own, it's essentially a restatement of the world cultural traditions, but through the lens of your life experience in a way that only you could create.
There's a reason Georgism never took off. It's not a great idea.
Except ironically, the most satisfied and dominant group in the story are nomads who subsist solely on animal byproducts not agriculture.
Do you suppose the owner of the land wants to build on it, but is being blocked by socialists in the government? Do you think this developer bought some lots in SF and left them empty just to make tech bros upset?
> whites and blacks use drugs at similar rates
Not really though. From the primary source for marijuana:
MORE THAN 100 DAYS OF USE IN PAST 12 MONTHS white: 4.5% black: 6.1%
Now for coke:
MORE THAN 100 DAYS OF USE IN PAST 12 MONTHS white: 0.1 black: 0.3
Now for crack:
MORE THAN 100 DAYS OF USE IN PAST 12 MONTHS white: 0.0 black: 0.3
Ok, ok, how about heroin? We know those white boys just can't get enough smack right?
MORE THAN 100 DAYS OF USE IN PAST 12 MONTHS white: 0.1 black: 0.2
Nope. Not sure how people can interpret these numbers to be "equal rates" when habitual daily use numbers are multiples higher for blacks.

That Vox article is being misleading when they frame it based on "reported using the drug in the last year" because doing coke once on New Years is a lot different that doing coke daily. Looking at the daily use stats their statement that "In 2007, black people were 3.6 times more likely to be arrested for drugs than white people." doesn't seem so extremely disproportionate considering the daily usage is in some cases 3x as much. Very dishonest article.
Sorry for double post, it wouldn't let me edit the other one for more clarity.
Edit: Downvoters care to counter?

I think the people who get their mind blown by Girard never read any other literary theory. Yes, my 10x Rockstar Ninja friend, Girard is from the literature department! Horror! But wait, what other mind blowing insights on life might those English majors know that you don't? Uh oh!
I was watching one of the lectures on "Power Politics" that got upload to the Yale youtube recently. They cover this in one of the lectures. They show video of two monkeys in cages. One if given cucumber. It's content. Then the researcher gives the other monkey a grape. The monkey with the cucumber now throws out its cucumber, and rattles the cage when it doesn't get grapes. The Yale presenter as an interesting interpretation of it, that it's not a protest against inequality. The monkey is not enraged that the research has a bowl full of cucumbers and grapes, it's furious that another monkey in a cage just like it, is getting grapes instead of cucumbers.

Flutter is just a cheap Google copy of React just like now shelved Google Plus was a cheap Google copy of LinkedIn/Facebook. It can and will be discontinued.
Also, do you really want to invest time into learning Dart?

Once your business is accumulating cash faster than it can spend it, it's time to pay a dividend.
No Piketty? Come on now. You don't have to agree with it, but it was a big part of the "conversation" about inequality in the 2010s.
