George Santos at the rally before Jan 6. insurrection of the Capitol:
"You know what they did to me was what they did to Donald J Trump. They stole my election. And what did they do? When they were too busy printing 280k ballots in my district? And shipping them to Pennsylvania? They snuck in a few for my opponent. And what did they do? They stole it.
And you’re gonna convince me and all of you that Donald Trump lost to senile Biden? Who here thinks that Biden cheated? Who here wants Donald Trump for 4 more years? Who here is not going to comply? We’re here cause we the people will not allow this nonsense to go on. Who here is ready to overturn the election for Donald J Trump? 4 more years. What are we gonna do? We’re gonna fight for Trump. Fight for Trump!" [0]
Arrest this lying seditious traitor. What kind of ignorance leads to supporting people like this?

Police pull up to sounds of a rifle shot; active shooter. They hear another loud shot. 4 seconds later, someone is peeking around the corner, their hands on the trigger and grip, 30 degrees pointed up. That's 1/4 second away from returning fire, with the firepower to kill every police that showed up, and if they let that happen, any number of civilians thereafter.
How naive that you think that Job provides any consolation to this concern. Job is one man who after years of misery, at least still has his life. Meanwhile, I just read the rest of the Old Testament where God ordered the mass murder of tens of thousands of women and children who will find no such mercy. For the crime of merely being born in the place that the Israelites were supposed to invade and take their land from them through genocide. Maybe, instead of constantly rationalizing why there must have been a good reason, one can use their logical side to grapple with the "ultimate love" they were sold is very inconsistent with the primary source of their belief.
NPC has always meant a non-human in a video game. What's new is applying it to people in the real world; it's textbook dehumanization. This is literally how many people use the word, as another commenter below experienced multiple times. It serves zero purpose for me to go around thinking "NPC means X", when everyone else is "NPC means Y."
Let this serve as a reminder to always stick with investments in $VTI and $BND in the future. It'll be a positive.
> "This network originated in Russia and targeted primarily Germany, and also France, Italy, Ukraine and the United Kingdom. The operation centered around a large network of websites carefully impersonating legitimate news organizations in Europe. There, they would post original articles that criticized Ukraine, praised Russia and argued that Western sanctions on Russia would backfire. They would then promote these articles, memes and YouTube videos on Facebook, Instagram, Telegram, Twitter, petitions websites Change[.]org and Avaaz, and LiveJournal"
First OS was scrappy to MVP hardware and prove the market. But instead of iterating, they decided to fork Android so they could scale up a workforce who can only understand Java, not C++, to deliver features. Then they realized Android is too bulky for cheap chips, so back to custom C++, that just like the first is a trash fire for rando devs to deliver features fast under a whip.
Notice a difference between the first Echo from 2015 and today’s?
No?
Well they still had us rewrite the entire OS, not once, but twice, and maintain all three OS’s across 10+ different devices…
Is this satire? My progressives-hating family were the only ones shoving down my throat that Qanon exists...
I mean, fire, brimstone, and sulfur lake are actual bible verses.
"But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.” Revelation 21:8
"If your eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out and throw it from you. It is better for you to enter life with one eye, than to have two eyes and be cast into the fiery hell." Matthew 18:9
"And the beast was seized, and with him the false prophet who performed the signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image; these two were thrown alive into the lake of fire which burns with brimstone." Revelation 19:20
You do believe the bible literally, right? Because if you were trying to avoid hell with your beliefs, and don't believe in biblical literalism, a large faction of Christians are certain that you will also be going to hell; a burning one. Take your pick which beliefs will save you, sure sounds important to make sure you don't accidentally choose the wrong one...
It’s simple. Mobile users are genpop while PC gaming users are more technical.
Don't universities and workplaces have particular sex and race only clubs?
I was similar; an embedded C++ engineer moving into web dev to get a project off the ground.
If you're going to write a modern web frontend like Next and Tailwind (which I agree is the right call) then I think continuing to use Typescript for your backend makes sense for sheer development velocity. Like https://github.com/t3-oss/create-t3-app
I'd advise against Heroku compared to hosts like Vercel, Railway, Planetscale, etc.

Amazon is a terrible place to work for your well-being generally (personal experience and data-based). But, 2 weeks vacation only applies to 1st year employees outside of CA.
Seattle dev: 1st year -> 2 weeks, 2-4th year -> 3 weeks, 5th+ year -> 4 weeks.
California dev: 1st year -> 3 weeks, 2-4th year -> 4 weeks, 5th+ year -> 5 weeks.
No, I inflation-proofed my lifestyle as soon as I could with a house, solar panels, a cheap hybrid car, and a taste for cheap, healthy, basic food (rice, beans, salad, water).
The only exception is Blackjack, where you could learn positive EV play in a week, by "counting cards". That's why casino's kick people playing too well. They make a little money off 99% of players playing bad and try to kick the 1% that make money off the casino.
What??
> france has a habit of pushing germany to fight because they get to arrogant.
"she was asking for it"
Going to say that about Ukraine, too?
Germany started an invasion of another country. Austria-Hungary only invaded Serbia because of German support.
'Historian Joachim Remak says:
The nation that...can still be held least responsible for the outbreak of the war is France. This is so even if we bear in mind all the revisions of historical judgments, and all the revisions of these revisions, to which we have now been treated....The French, in 1914, entered the war because they had no alternative. The Germans had attacked them. History can be very simple at times.'

I'm not really talking about just handing out more money to schools, nor debating whether schools received less funding. The school problem comes from both not valuing education and people who have had a rougher go at life that the problem keeps perpetuating in their children. (dad in jail, mom on drugs, mom working 2 jobs so has no time and the children just hang with other older children, etc.). Feel free to send your kid to that school if you think it's just as fair a shot at life.
How is that similar? I'm not talking about anything with PD. Simply incentivizing troubled areas with wealth for simply not doing the things that makes their assets worth so much less. There is absolutely a non-zero amount of people, who if given steady income, would not be committing crimes of poverty. That income can come from the housing wealth generation. It's just a matter of where on the range of 1 - 100% can those issues be stopped with adequate wealth.
Exactly. When we're talking about US auto unions, the market for those vehicles pretty much is the US market. The rest of the global sales are made with global (typically non-unionized) workers. If Ford can't make competitive cars for the US market, it doesn't speak well to the union vs. non-union competitiveness.
This is "hacker" news, since when is an appropriate answer "that's now how it's usually done."
I mean, Ford is in a pretty tough spot for the future. They couldn't compete in the ICE sedan market. Their cash cow ICE truck market is gone in 10 years. They have a LOT of debt that will cost a lot more to service now interest rates are up. So their only saving grace is a successful pivot to the EV market, but their software and software culture is bad, and they are not procuring very many batteries.
It seems to me a huge bank like Bank of America is well-capitalized to start a huge investment project into a troubled area of a city that will:
1. provide wealth to it's residents
2. fix crime and blight
3. help alleviate housing affordability crisis
Right now, a troubled area might have housing wealth be 1/4 of a nearby affluent area. But generally, this is simply because of crime and bad schools due to the cycle of poverty. If you're able to quickly alleviate the crime and poverty, suddenly that troubled area is basically as desirable for housing as the rest of the area.
Now, usually, this "gentrification" process has happened slower, over decades, and without the corresponding wealth accrual of its current residents. So it doesn't work out for the current residents and the clash between people is much harsher.
But what if all the wealth that was created when a $300k East Oakland home becomes $1m, was equally shared between investment and residents? Could you pay people (give them some type of community job) and/or make sure everyone has housing equity, to break that cycle, stop the crime, so that everyone wins?
It feels doable if tackled on a large scale, what am I missing?
You're talking about companies other than Facebook, right? Because Facebook is 3.6x price/sales with double digit growth still.
> US is becoming the IBM of sorts of nation. Slow, sluggish, inefficient
You should look at the GDP per capita of the US compared to literally every other country in the last 10 years.
