It must have been bewildering to encounter such bugs pre-LLM era. This is one skill set newer developers are going to miss out on.
Re:Cloudflare Data Platform on Friday September 26, 2025 @03:43AM (#45383878)
There are many valid criticisms of Cloudflare but this article ain’t it.

That article has been debunked already. OP wanted to run an online casino and wanted to circumvent Cloudflare policies. Cloudflare simply asked them to show up with their own IP and instead OP went on to slander them.

HN is seriously ignorant about India. There has been no such insurgency since early 90s.

I fail to see how this corroborates your claim of India being “notoriously hostile to minorities”.
India, where minorities become Bollywood superstars, beloved musicians, richest men in Asia, and even presidents, has been notoriously hostile to minorities? I don’t think any other country in Asia has a track record like India when it comes to minorities. Let’s not get rhetoric and false propaganda into our way of critical thinking. India has flaws but it is steadily proving to be a responsible power in that geography.

If you look at the facts: The only exodus happened in India was in Kashmir.

Re:A new form of verification on Bluesky on Monday April 21, 2025 @05:30PM (#43756711)
That’s very interesting. Does It mean NYTimes can also provide a Blue Check to someone from BBC, Reuters or even from a completely different org?
Re:A new form of verification on Bluesky on Monday April 21, 2025 @05:22PM (#43756641)
Do you have any insight on how was this initial batch of verified users selected?

I’m on Bsky as well but haven’t seen any such updates.

Re:Getting Forked by Microsoft on Monday April 21, 2025 @04:44PM (#43756263)
Based on the initial commits and the logs after that surely there’s someone unethical person at MS. This might have been brushed under the carpet and due to sheer luck it reached HN frontpage.

What about the allegations that people in MS did this for personal gains? Will there be any lessons learned from this?

This might work for few jumps but eventually Hiring managers will see this pattern and flag you as a flight risk. Please Take this advice with a grain of salt.

Re:Ask HN: Contractors, what is your hourly rate? on Sunday August 28, 2022 @03:57PM (#32631510)
I would love to!

I see no email in your profile, can you please share it?

Mostly intertia and post-covid fatigue.

Thank you for kicking me in the butt and providing the valuable information :-)

If I may ask, how is the German freelance market in the current environment?

I'm on fence about going freelance (Mobile/backend+DevOps) and would love to know your thoughts.

I felt the same, as if the author was relishing the Schadenfreude in EUs misfortune.

Eating yoghurt along with chilies helps a lot to avoid problems the next day.
Re:Rust – A hard decision pays off on Wednesday August 24, 2022 @09:42AM (#32579348)
I don't want to be dismissive but how much of this success belongs to the team of rock solid senior engineers with enough experience under their belt rather than rewrite in Rust?
Re:VS Code – What's the deal with the telemetry? on Tuesday August 23, 2022 @11:11AM (#32566053)
I'm old enough to remember the browser wars and FUD against linux. It is funny to see MS going from 'M$' to the gatekeeper of OpenSource.
Re:Risk Everything (2007) on Tuesday August 23, 2022 @03:16AM (#32561509)
Most successful entrepreneurs have a safety margin and take calculated risks while starting new ventures. Seldom do the "Hail Mary" ventures end up in success, because the odds are stacked against them (yes, there are outliers).

What the author is alluding to that, while entrepreneurs like her think they are risking everything while starting a venture, their struggles are lesser compared to the people in the boat and similar others.

They're a scrappy startup, and don't have much legal firepower. They're having hard time find people, so I agreed to help them. But after reading the comments here, I think it's better to back out instead of having potential future legal troubles.

Ask HN: Conflict of Interest while freelancing

I'm a freelancer in Germany, and I'm waiting for the new project to be finalised. Meanwhile I'm working on a ML based app, and a startup approached me to do some hourly work. The startups is in the same space as my product, and is similar in some ways to my app. We've not signed a contract as I'm planning to work only 10-16 hours for the startup. I've not yet started the work (for the startup)...

Nokia 3310 is going to fail in the markets it's being launched at, i.e. India. The biggest reason for it's (possible) failure is that the people have simply moved on to Android/4G.

Nokia's were a rage when the mobile market was nascent (2004-2010), and carriers flooded the market with cheap SMS rates. With loads of cheap Android phones available, and no WhatsApp on Nokia devices, it's a DoA device. And it doesn't even look as durable as the original classic.

I think she meant non-EU countries.

You're using a throwaway so why hiding the name of the company? It could save fellow developers.

Is it Wooga/King games?
