Re:Firefox desktop market share now below 9% on Tuesday December 04, 2018 @01:27AM (#18596859)
Firefox on Linux appears to adopt the GTK themes (in my case Dark Themes) for web elements (Forms, message poxes, etc) and I have great difficulty removing the customisation. Chrome based browsers do not do that and it's one of the primary reasons I still use Chrome.
Re:Ask HN: What motivates you to do what you do? on Monday June 19, 2017 @08:19AM (#14586330)
Grown up working class, have parents which are older and still have to work in awful jobs. Met many people who are just simply better than I am at most things. So I just grind daily at it. I want to have an "out", not just me but for my family and the people I care about.

Re:How "junior" developers can become regex wizards on Thursday November 28, 2013 @03:17AM (#6813582)
You don't need to be a developer to understand or use regex. I use regex on a daily basis as I have to deal with a lot of text manipulation.

--edit

I am not a developer.

moretoitsurely do you reside in Bath Road top floor? Greetings from 2EE51.
Re:How I spend my first 5 minutes on a server on Monday March 04, 2013 @02:39AM (#5317134)
Agreed, anyone who has touched PCI DSS would agree you need to associate access with a human user. This would not work. If you look at the security logs it won't differentiate between which keys were used for that generic account.
As a guy who used to resell Splunk, it offers a lot more in comparison to it's open source alternatives. Being data agnostic with decent log compression, with an extremely rich searching syntax, some very good (HTML 5) reporting dashboards, decent reporting and a verbose API make it very attractive for users (companies) who have compliance requirements or require some form of performance monitoring. (I know it's a mega sentence)

I have since left working with Splunk directly but I would still advocate its use because it's one of the better commercial (albeit expensive) log management/SIEM products around.

Re:Google Music: The Best Service That Nobody’s Using on Monday February 27, 2012 @04:04PM (#3640640)
If I had it in the UK and they didn't convert flac and I would gladly pay. However, the don't and do.
Re:Todos in the CLI like what. on Sunday January 29, 2012 @11:56AM (#3525512)
Seems like excessive dependencies for such a simple tool. Could probably build such a tool in SQLite and bash just as well.
Re:Tips for Remote Unix Work (SSH, screen, and VNC) on Saturday December 17, 2011 @08:46AM (#3364215)
I am a tmux advocate and you can get screen based hot keys if you need but it feels cleaner and it's also under a BSD licence.

Re:One Million Concurrent TCP connections on Saturday September 24, 2011 @06:51AM (#3032968)
I read it, I just presume people most users are linux based in here.
Re:OpenBSD imports nginx into tree as future apache replacement on Saturday September 24, 2011 @06:09AM (#3032927)
Or in other words it'll be on the CD and Apache'll be in a repo.
Re:One Million Concurrent TCP connections on Friday September 23, 2011 @04:18AM (#3029258)
Actually I would run ss over the netstat for such high concurrency connection as netstat hits /proc/net/tcp and it's quite slow. However, you need to have the tcp_diag module loaded otherwise it falls back to /proc/net/tcp.
Re:BigV: new UK-based VPS service with Yubikey auth on Wednesday August 10, 2011 @09:25AM (#2868050)
Interesting, though only Debian support for the clients at the moment. I will begin porting that over to RPM based systems later on tonight. Starting with CentOS.
Re:Awesome but commonly unknown Linux Commands on Wednesday August 10, 2011 @05:32AM (#2867435)
strace is the Daddy of debugging especially when you can attach it to an already existing program using it's PID. I have solved so many permissions errors problems with strace where the application itself just failed without logging anything.
Re:HTML5 page structure without hassles on Sunday April 17, 2011 @01:19PM (#2456474)
I've always found:

A good resource too.

Re:IEEE: Pay $3000 and we'll remove your article's paywall. on Tuesday March 29, 2011 @03:43PM (#2384081)
I'd very much consider uploading a few of mine to that service, it's hard to justify what the IEEE deems as reasonable. Heck I don't even get access to my own papers.
Re: on Wednesday February 09, 2011 @12:05PM (#2198166)
When did selling shares (especially when you have many) become dumping? As I recall he's doing his humanitarian bit nowadays, which strangely enough costs money.
Re:Predictions for the World in 2030 on Sunday January 30, 2011 @02:59PM (#2158970)
I can't see self driving cars being commonplace in 19 years time. People tend to like control.
Re:Mongo Vs Redis, The Increment Battle on Friday January 14, 2011 @11:41AM (#2104129)
Redis is asynchronous, try doing it with a few more connections.
Too much, too little, death of one thing, year of another. Anyone else getting tired of some of these pointless opinion threads?
Redis, that super quick key value pair data store which integrated support for hashes has made my life easier for message queuing and session management.
