Hi HNers!I've started blogging a few months ago, and it's working out pretty well for me. I'm planning to invest more time and energy into my blog for the coming months. However, writing is really hard for me. I'm not a native english speaker, so it takes me hours to write a short blog post and I probably make a lot of mistakes.I think both of these problems could be fixed by working with a...
Hello,I have a few thousands email subscribers for one of my project. I usually send them emails at the beginning of the week, and have good open rates (>50%).However, this week I'd really like to send one email on Friday (tomorrow), and I'm afraid to get a lower open rate than usual.Do you know if sending an email on Friday is bad for open rates? Any study about that, or personal...
Hi HN,I just left my day job, and I'm now considering to be a freelancer. And my first question is: what should I freelance in?- I know how to build and design websites (HTML/CSS, PHP/MySQL, Javascript/jQuery) - I know a lot about how to improve a website/app (UI/UX, conversion optimisation, funnels, AB testing, SEO, etc.) - I know how to build HTML5 games, and make them run as native apps...
I'm doing this as a hobby/challenge. The blog: www.21pips.com
Yes I plan to write new articles weekly, however if I don't see an increase in traffic I might not have the motivation to continue.
I'm not an expert in SEO, but it seems impossible to me to get a decent SERP (even for long tail search) in this industry. I'm competing against huge banks or websites with crazy pageranks.
Hi HN!About three weeks ago I build my first blog. I started with 0 article and 0 audience. Now I have 4 articles, 300+ followers on twitter, 200+ emails subscribers, and a lot of positive feedback in my inbox. But I have a really hard time to make people discover my blog. How can I drive traffic to my content? To make things worst, my website is about trading, so: - SEO: seems impossible...
Hi HN!Instead of building a side project, I've decided to try to build an audience first, and then build a side project for them. I've worked on this for 1h per day for almost a week now, and I have 150 followers on Twitter. They are real followers interested in a specific niche market. My question is: what's next? Should I keep building my number of followers? Should I make a blog? Should I try...
So if there are lots of jewish who are choosing the laureates, it's "normal" to see a lot of jewish ending up nobel laureates.
Hi HN!I'm a web developer, and I want to try to become a freelancer. After some research, I have found some people interested to work with me. They are individuals (not companies), and interested in small projects (blog, small e-commerce, CMS, etc.)I think that's a good start! But now I'm wondering if it's possible to make enough money by only doing work for individuals. Should I start right...
Hello HNers! For years I've been building my side projects in plain PHP. However, I recently decided to learn Django after reading everywhere that it's better than PHP. It's been only a few days since I've started learning Django, and I'm already convinced that it's awesome: clean syntax, database-abstraction API, auto-generated admin, MVC, etc.But there are also a few things that I really...

Hi HN!I will be free for the next few weeks, and I want to build an MVP to a) gain some experience, b) have a cool project on my resume, and c) maybe make some money.I know how to make a website, how to design, how to do marketing, how to do conversion optimization, etc. My only issue is... I don't know what to build. And I definitely don't want to build a useless product. So my question is...
Hi HN,I'm planning to buy a domain name for my personal blog. After spending a lot of time trying to find an available .com domain, I gave up, and found a cool .me domain instead. But do extensions have an impact on SEO? Is using a .com better than a .me SEO wise? Thanks!
