Re:LLM Voice on Thursday October 29, 2026 @02:07PM (#50293372)
It's hard to define and pin point what a "voice" is. Think about how you would describe the difference in voice of Tolstoy vs Dostoevsky, or William Gibson compared to Thomas Pynchon. You might have to read a lot of a writer to be able to notice their voice. You might even notice how a short story by an unknown writer resembles the voice of another.

Or think about reading something that might be stuff you could say in your own words but not actually in your own voice. Or maybe the opposite is a better example for you? That's what some poetry is about. The gap between voice and word.

Stylometry is the study and measurement of text, so that can go some distance to quantifying the difference between voices and can help to programmatically identify a human voice but I feel that because a voice comes from a person, the recognition is also mainly a human response.

At another level its about communication, person to person with the intention and desire to communicate something. LLM text output may seem uncanny as it's hard to emulate the intention and desire and empathy present in genuine human communication.

I would be interested in reading what poets say about LLM voices. I wonder if many LLM labs employ them?

>honeypot

They explicitly say they proactively work with LEOs to report any and all things illegal. I wouldn't be surprised if they had members of staff directly employed by some agencies, they wouldn't be opposed to it. They do not wait for a court order or subpoena, they will happily give them data and will not wait to be asked.

Their range of acceptable content is wider than other cleaner platforms which gives an impression of anarchy and freedom and anonymity, but actually those other more censored and speech restricted platforms may actually be more safer, private and free from government and legal interference!

Re:Tesla Roadster on Friday October 16, 2026 @04:18PM (#50124006)
Apart from the supercar aspirational enthusiasts and the usual inspiration of innovation with concept cars give, I'm thinking of other audiences for this product. What's the actual future of this?

Ask yourself who would see the benefit of a vehicle that can jump over obstacles, other dangers or other cars?

Obstacles including barricades, flooded roads, tank traps, rivers, fences and burning cars. Dangers might include IEDs, mines, destroyed bridges, barbed wire, stinger strips, active munitions being fired at it, etc.

Even without such dangers, jumping over moving cars would be useful in pursuits where getting in front of a target gives an advantage.

And the extra mobility would be useful in humanitarian and disaster applications where getting to and from those in need in a timely fashion may save lives.

Do you think this might be a kind of subconscious origin of your idea? A second of a move you saw in your early life / teens stayed with you as an example of an absurd thing to draw?
If someone is interested in disinformation / propaganda it's worth looking into how we did it before WWII: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Institute_for_Propaganda_Analy...

In short: the west started to train it's countries in identifying and resisting propaganda but stopped because they wanted to use propaganda for their own purposes. Every state continues to use propaganda and misinformation.

He's not even leaving "because AI". He's literally leaving to focus more on AI stuff.

> I plan to study how AI agents debug code and whether debugging tools that can make them more effective at that.

> I want to use AI agents to bring some of my hobby project ideas to life.

> I’m keen to reap the benefits of AI

and addresses the anti-AI view:

> AI detractors think that AI won’t really work. I think it will. (ed. for brev)

The main reason then is the concern of the velocity of the rollout and the increased pervasiveness of AI. Too fast, too much.

Re:YouTube introduces A/B testing for videos on Thursday September 24, 2026 @05:38AM (#49828312)
The custom homepage feeds sound interesting. I wonder if users will be able to specify filters to be used. E.g. "Help me discover new DIY creators who have uploaded in the last week and have videos over 20 minutes". Generally I find myself marking videos as "not interested" on the homepage just to change the algorithm, so being able to explicitly say what I want may help.

And if it can help live streams be found and discovered that would be game changing. "Only show me live streams of people playing Tetris, Minesweeper and Chess, sorted by number of live viewers"

Re:I don't want to read what you didn't write on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @03:31AM (#49797753)
Ask questions about how the audience is taking the blog posts. Say that many people seem to really not like LLM writing and ask how are they listening to their readers on this point.

You may find that brings a better and more human focused discussion. Who is the audience and what is best for them? Don't frame it about your preferences but about the real persons that your colleagues seek to talk to.

Re:English: A vs. An on Sunday September 20, 2026 @07:58AM (#49774921)
I think because someone wouldn't answer "he is a gamesmaster" to the example question, "who is running this rpg", it makes it less odd.

If the Q was "who can run this game?" maybe then it would be ambiguous because it could imply others may also be a gamesmaster.

So the context of dropping the "the" can only really happen when there's no ambiguity.
