If you fly up from countries south of the US you have a tight list of airports you can clear customs at. Wilmington NC is the odd one on the eastern seaboard. Its about 520 miles north of the nearest one. For flights coming up from the Caribbean headed to New England its a lucrative place to be.

Have this bookmarked.

I love the Crissy Field section, considering what it is now and how recently it was being used.

Flight plans are usually filed hours before a flight with old wind data and sometimes can't be changed in congested airspace.

But pilots really care about wind shear. Its the thing that makes people suddenly hit the overhead compartment. It typically requires flight crews reporting it to ATC over radio. Improving accuracy of local wind events is very valuable.

Real auto land, CAT iii, is what you're thinking of and it requires specific things that most airports and planes don't have equipped

You're right about Amazons leverage.

In Santa Clara county we have our local behemoths trying to get their property valuations dropped. https://www.bizjournals.com/sanjose/news/2024/11/08/tech-goo...

The way commercial real estate lending is tied to lease rates usually means its almost impossible for them to go down unless you operate at these scales.

Most commercial landlords around me would rather have prime main street spots stay empty than refinance because of lower lease rates.

Charlotte is specifically called out as one of the worst offenders in this article mate.
Weird. I just bumped into this paper when I was trying to learn why Charlotte has such a confusing layout. I've never felt more lost.

Same one about the combo here. Almost every person I ask has some variation on that one. Crazy how universal it is in my world, especially since it's usually about something that would have happened 20 or 30 years ago, but never really happened.

Seeing a lot of similar stories here. We used to do a game of hide and seek on our massive dead end street. Wed use peoples bushes and cars to hide. I still remember the sound of crotchety old mr peabody chambering a round in his shotgun behind us one night. Pitch black. Never saw his face, just heard him let us know we were about to die if we didn't leave. Pretty sure he knew it was 2 little kids
I have a 2018 Chevy, and cancelled onstar immediately, which was intentionally an exercise in annoyance and confusion. But I still got metrics emailed to me.

I found a way to detach the wireless dongler tucked up behind my glove box. The only side effect was my little digi-compass not telling me which direction I was pointing anymore.

I don't think they let you do that anymore.

So far they've had to pull out of a few airports when FBOs stop hosting them, mostly without explanation. The same FBOs that allow part 135 operators, some owned by the majors, to run. Seems related.
I just had a flight with JSX cancelled because of this, it's sad.

Regulations are written in blood, but this one just looks like it's written in green.

The title is a tip of the cap to Controlled Flight into Terrain, CFIT.

Mine are all online now.

So you can activate them before you go.

In the time it would take to pull the scissors out of the drawer, I can just .click() all of them.

I don't even pay attention to the ones I activate anymore, I just get a nice surprise on the receipt.

On a $100 grocery run it knocks off an average of $20.

Every time I explain this to people you see the 5 stages of grief go across their face, especially when it's a property that used to host their favorite restaurant or something.

I sometimes have to go back and remind myself this is really happening, it's such bullshit.

Cool, never seen this. There's a similar thing on big ships.

Used to be, in the good old days, getting yourself off lexisnexis did a good chunk of the heavy lifting out of these data pits.

For anyone who doesn't know what BlockShopper does, what does it do?

I wonder how long it will be before someone resurrects this idea and starts another company like this.

Sounds like something Billy McFarland could get into.

This is being considered a precursor to the CBDC. States coming out against this(NC, SD, FL) are fighting this in the name of american freedom, but I wonder how many people consider it the mark of the beast.
