Re:Ask HN: What are you working on? (August 2026) on Tuesday August 11, 2026 @03:40AM (#49254645)
I've been working on Jant [0], an open-source blogging platform for a single author with a modern publishing UI, in the spirit of Tumblr. It deploys to Cloudflare Workers, and natively supports Note, Link, and Quote formats, plus Thread-style replies. It also syncs with GitHub — the synced repo is a Hugo site that builds on its own.

This month has mostly been about adding multilingual support to Jant. It's for bilingual authors — the common case being someone writing for both Chinese and English readers — so they can publish to each language's audience separately within Jant.

I'm also designing a feature called Repost: when you see a post you like on another blog, you can repost it to your own Jant blog along with the original URL.

Code's on GitHub [1], and there's a demo [2] to try it out.

Re:Substack writers, you need a website on Wednesday July 29, 2026 @06:17AM (#49095490)
I really like this approach. I make similar distinctions between posts meant for email, posts that should appear in RSS, posts that belong on the homepage, and posts that should live under /archive without appearing on the homepage.

I use Substack for email distribution too. For the website side, I built an open-source blogging platform called Jant (https://jant.me) around these needs: posts appear on the homepage by default, posts marked as Featured are included in RSS, and posts can also be unlisted. It also syncs everything to GitHub as Markdown, in a repo that works as a complete Hugo site.

Re:Reminder: Backup Your Blog on Monday May 04, 2026 @02:22PM (#48012742)
I'm working on something related — Jant [0], an open-source blog system I'm building.

One of the features is that every edit auto-syncs to a GitHub repo as Markdown, and the repo itself is a full Hugo site you can build independently. So the backup is always there without thinking about it.

Not released yet but almost done. Repo is public if you want to take a look.

Re:How do you browse Hacker News? on Wednesday March 15, 2023 @07:13AM (#35166449)
I use https://hn.buzzing.cc/ to browser Hacker News in both Chinese and English.
JSONBin: https://github.com/theowenyoung/blog/tree/main/scripts/jsonb...

CronBin: https://github.com/theowenyoung/blog/tree/main/scripts/cronb...

Both scripts are deployed as single file js in the free tier of Cloudflare's Workers, and my personal workflow relies on these two simple services for all persistent data storage and scheduled tasks.

Show HN: I made myself a HN site in English and Chinese, so I can read more HN

https://hnnew.buzzing.cc/

It is a single static html page, I also provide jsonfeed[0] and rss[1], and I incidentally support Traditional Chinese[2], Japanese[3], and English only[4], but I don't think I currently have English users or Japanese users.I tried to get `og:image` at the same time as getting hacker news' post to display the image, and I used deepl's API for translation.If you happen to need this, feel free...

Show HN: Track Awesome List – Get Awesome List Updates Daily

https://github.com/trackawesomelist/trackawesomelist

I find myself often wanting to know the recent updates of some awesome list such as awesome-selfhosted [0], so I developed this tool to track the updates of more than 600 awesome lists and provide RSS feeds. The code is also open source [1], I hope this small tool can help you.And I also provide a client-side search [2], so you can search all awesome projects there, I implemented it through...

I like it. This basically meets all the features I want, can you share the reasons for not using sqlite for the database but sed?
I have the same problem, so I use my personal domain [0] to redirect to repos page, it works great. here is the javascript code:

    async function handleRequest(request) {
      const requestUrl = new URL(request.url);
      let target = "https://github.com/theowenyoung?tab=repositories"
      if(requestUrl.pathname!=="/"){
        target = "https://github.com/theowenyoung"+requestUrl.pathname
      }
      return Response.redirect(target, 302);
    }
    addEventListener('fetch', async event => {
      event.respondWith(handleRequest(event.request));
    });

Re:An Intuition for Lisp Syntax (2020) on Sunday August 28, 2022 @09:30PM (#32633900)
Very great presentation! I made a little toy some time ago [1] with YAML files compiled into Javascript code, in Lisp style, basically along the same lines as the article, and I use this project to manage my dotfiles. The basic syntax probably looks like this:

  - use: def
    id: obj
    args:
      list:
        - Hello
        - true
      foo:
        cat: 10
  - use: console.log
    args:
      - ${obj.list[0]} World
      - ${obj.foo.cat}
      - ${JSON.stringify(obj.foo)}

Good idea, it seems that I can start a 301 redirecting before I die, If all goes well, search engines have a 10-year window to navigate to the new free hosting site.
I don't think my personal website is worth such a huge cost to maintain after my death, I just don't think it's a good thing to let the links on my personal website become invalid after my death.
Re:Cloudflare had a partial outage on Tuesday June 21, 2022 @02:42AM (#31820695)
https://hn.algolia.com also down now.

All sites of mine are down now.
Re:Redbean 2.0 turned into more than a hobby project on Sunday June 19, 2022 @06:51PM (#31804295)
Can I host multiple sites in it? Like I have a VPS, but I have 4 sites in it, can I just pack it to 1 binary file?

I've used Zola to build both Chinese and English versions of my personal website, and one of my favorite parts is that I show the word count of the articles I've written so far in the header.

No Javascript, with a simple CSS file.

Re:Ask HN: What book changed your life? on Saturday March 19, 2022 @08:01PM (#30738710)
Stolen Focus: Why You Can't Pay Attention--and How to Think Deeply Again, by Johann Hari

Time and time again I made up my mind to focus, but it wasn't until I read this book that I actually did it.

Re:Deno 1.20 on Thursday March 17, 2022 @11:56AM (#30712547)
I'm terrified of a lot of dependencies in node projects when upgrading, so I'd rather the ecology in Deno now allows me to write most things myself.
Amazing! I like it.
Very cool! I'll recommend to my friends.
