Re:Software development advice inspired by chess on Thursday June 05, 2014 @01:08PM (#7852893)
I just heard that if you sit on your hands, then you are less likely to make rash moves in chess. I suppose the same cannot be said for coding...
Hahaha! Yeah, it could look like DZone lately - "I see dead people...and jQuery and JS frameworks"
Hahaha, will do my best!

WHY DON'T I SEE ANYTHING ABOUT HACKING/DEVELOPMENT IN HERE?

Yeah, so this is called Hacker News but all I see are posts about consumer technologies, Bitcoin and dumb headlines. Am I the odd one out here, or should this be a resource for software engineers? It's pretty much a no-frills aggregator of whatever flotsam ends up getting posted. Oh well. Ha.

Re:Java tools and technologieslandscape for 2014 on Wednesday May 28, 2014 @04:08AM (#7808903)
Hi, Oliver here (the report's author). Actually, we specifically stayed away from contacting JRebel users simply to avoid any additional bias. Our charity approach (each completed survey donated to a charity that brings video games to kids in hospitals) that we didn't need to promote it as heavily to our own contact. We spread the word successfully through contacting RebelLabs subscribers, VirtualJUG and London Java Community (LJC) members and individuals in the industry. That said, there are certainly some JRebel users in there, although we didn't ask specifically.
The most advanced countries over the last 20 years have worse internet speeds and policies than financially distress nations without many resources. Irony at work?

Can Spritz ever make it to a Kindle?

I love what Spritz is doing with speed-reading, never thought I could hit 500 words a minute but it somehow seems ok using this new tool. Can they ever port it to Kindle or eBook formats though? Seems the emphasis is on iOS apps :-(

Monsanto will cross-breed these immediately, right? :-D
Re:UX Developers Aren't a Thing on Tuesday April 15, 2014 @08:41AM (#7591455)
So true. But they should be. One of the camps will have to cross sides--either designers learn how to code in half a dozen languages (unlikely) developers learn to appreciate beauty, layout, design and other UX elements that matter (likely). So, pick one! :-D
JiteScript is a cool add-on to ASM for cutting down some lines of code for your bytecode shenanigans.
This is Jenkins Job Hell, not hating your actual job. But wait, you're coders! You love your jobs, right?
I'd recommend Twitter and Atlassian HQs if you can swing it.
Haha, WAT?!!
