Google has two classes of stock.

Depends what you mean by memes. The things on this site aren't really memes in the original sense of the word. The reason these things are boring is probably that as humor they fall on the far billboard end of the billboard-Shakespeare continuum: they are designed for quick (but inevitably shallow) appeal.

Even in China, my dad didn't eat rice until he was in his teens.

What did he eat?

Re:Ask HN: Who's Hiring? (December 2010 Edition) on Wednesday December 01, 2010 @12:39PM (#1958688)
There's nothing illegal about age discrimination when choosing a cofounder, just as there isn't when choosing a friend.
Re:London's high-tech start-ups: Silicon Roundabout on Friday November 26, 2010 @12:27PM (#1942781)
"McKinsey, a consultancy, will share management expertise."

God help them.

That's a metaphor.
Re:Kayak Files for $50 million IPO on Wednesday November 17, 2010 @01:50PM (#1915244)
50m is not the valuation; it's the amount of stock they're selling.
Re:To truly become rich, you need to stop acting like it on Sunday October 10, 2010 @05:54PM (#1778055)
Your comment would be more effective without the parts on either end.
Re:Microsoft registered fuckbing.com on Wednesday October 06, 2010 @04:46PM (#1765780)
Seems like the least we can do is use it. I propose we use this by default for links to bing.
Re:Failures in mobile space cost Steve Ballmer half his bonus on Thursday September 30, 2010 @11:20PM (#1745854)
Not even that. His salary is rounding error compared to his net worth.
"The supply of papers that apply gender theory to literary criticism remains ample."
Re:New York's Water Filled With Invisible Shrimp on Wednesday September 01, 2010 @05:15PM (#1654300)
Reminds one of the invisible clams in Scientology.
The list _delirium and I are referring to is this one of 4 items:

All three appear to be single white 20something males
I am in fact pretty nearly as bothered by the claim that it's a problem that all 3 are male, or in their 20s.

It's lame when someone writes off a group of people based on such superficial characteristics.

In a long enough list, by definition it's reasonable.

The problem is, this was a short list.

And their race is supposed to predict this? I've heard white people can actually be quite different from one another.
Why is it bad that they're white?
You may well be right. The artists involved are exactly the ones that would be chosen in that scenario. Which is unfortunate.
Re:Wage Slavery - Applicable to [Nearly] Everybody? on Thursday June 03, 2010 @01:00PM (#1401828)
It's just a figure of speech. There are plenty of other figures of speech that would be even more "offensive" if we applied this unreasonably strict standard to them.
Re: on Monday May 31, 2010 @07:16PM (#1393758)
What matters is not the intention of the law but how it's written. This page says what's prohibited is "actual refusal to do business with or in Israel." Do you have some other source to back up your claim? Because judging from this page it sounds like it's illegal to boycott Israel period.
Raking in pledges, not donations. I wonder what the conversion rate is.
If you had to view source before you were sure, then it can't be a real problem, can it?
Re:High Speed Rail Plan: Catch up with the Japanese? on Wednesday May 05, 2010 @12:44AM (#1320346)
"Unlike Japan, France and other countries, the U.S. has no true high-speed train lines."

Unlike Japan, France and other countries, the U.S. is really big.

Re:Why do Finland's schools get the best results? on Sunday April 11, 2010 @09:19PM (#1258102)
You say it's false that genetic factors account for 60-80% of variance in IQ. What is the current consensus about the actual number? 50%? 10%?
