150 Data Scientists and still no business value? He was intrigued by the title of an articled recently published in the Harvard Business Review: Why You're Not Getting Value from Your Data Science.1 The author, an MIT professor, observed that industry data scientists with whom he works typically seem overwhelmed by the complexity and quantity of data, while business experts, on the other hand, seem underwhelmed by the tangible output of those data scientists.…

hahahaha yeah not really ethical and not something most SEO's would do
sounds like a good lot of fun and maybe crazy enough to work
I say it was handled quite badly, IKEA doesn't need the extra revenue but the site dominates a growing niche that IKEA might no longer be wishing to be associated with as they try and push upmarket....
Dumb idea all round to act like this, and good luck to IKEAHackers.net

So it seems that you can spoof Twitter cards for malware and hacking... who thinks that's interesting?
Everyone hates blog spam no matter if it’s comment or trackback spam but I thought I would look into it and see if there is any common elements and yes I’m amazed how much it’s still used. So I thought I’d gather some comment data from this blog but also SEOMeetups.com.au that is regularly spammed as people try to build links and drive referral traffic back to their affiliate links, social profiles, youtube clips, clients websites and their own sites.
I managed to export and filter 10,119 spam comments and started playing around with the data in Excel to see what insights I could learn from blog spam left from the 31st July 2011 until the 12th January 2014.

Hmm... i do agree there is a disconnect but looking at revenue, it's Facebook that is still the darling of the media world also looking at what Facebook Australia is doing with their new CEO being poached from Google their Head of Mobile/Social in Asia/Pacific

wait... "What if Apple created their own applications for 50% of the categories in the app store and then placed their apps at the top of each category?"
So ummm none of Google own products are featured at the top of each search category? Most of the time this is not a good user experience but users and businesses have no real option!
This is certainly an inspiring article. I've seen both bootstrapped companies grow and VC companies grow and for a personal experience I would say bootstrapping and doing it right from the ground up feels like the best way. I've also seen how stressful it can be on people if you have a VC invested who is demanding more revenue, more sales and better margins.
If your business can generate cash and support itself there needs to be no reason for a large VC cheque that will add extra costs and stress to your business. Just as the article talks about a Taxi business getting VC, there are a number of small web startups that will just never return the capital quick enough to keep their head above water.
I've also seen investors with personal interests place roadblocks as they want you to use a particular platform, their services or a related company they own for your outsourcing. While this can work very well it often seems to work the opposite and slowly bleed the business to death as the investors draw out capital.
Many businesses don't operate on double digit growth figures and I don't believe it's sustainable in most cases to expect all businesses to grow like Twitter or Facebook.
