Re:Ask HN: What are you working on? (September 2025) on Monday September 29, 2025 @05:26PM (#45418965)
I'm working on a WordPress PaaS with dedicated lanes for bots. The status quo around WordPress is that you block bots using Cloudflare, else your site crashes. Since AI search is here to stay, we need a way to let bots crawl WordPress sites without crashing the server.

Currently at MVP stage, no domain yet.

Re:Paid $2400 to Cloudflare, support refuses to help on Monday September 15, 2025 @05:34PM (#45255199)
That's great. I don't even want to change a domain registration, just need to add an existing domain to Cloudflare.

Thanks, email sent.

Paid $2400 to Cloudflare, support refuses to help

I signed up for Cloudflare's Business plan and paid for a year in advance. While adding a new domain I made a typo and now the subscription is stuck in a limbo.I can't change the domain without contacting their support or paying another $2400. When I open a support ticket, their portal shows 'Unable to find your account' and tells me to open another support request for it.All support tickets...

I have a spare cheap android phone with Google authenticator. I export accounts from my primary phone to this phone every quarter or so as a low tech backup.
If you are considering Vultr or DigitalOcean, try UpCloud as well. They have really robust network and the VMs are faster than AWS C6G instances in almost every test we run.
Re:Details of yesterday's Bunny CDN outage on Wednesday June 23, 2021 @11:35AM (#27605707)
Hi Dejan, we are evaluating Bunny for a long-term multi-tenant project. Today your support mentioned that cdn optimizer strips all origin headers. Is there any way permit some headers on a zone basis?
By default Google will show ads to people in or "intersted in" the selected location. You can change this to only show ads to people actually present in the specified location, from campaign level location targeting. I spend low 5 figures per month on ads and changing this parameter has significantly reduced poor quality clicks.

Mercury has been great to us and has a vastly better UI compared to SVB.

One suggestion, there should be an option to deliver checks via UPS, FedEx at an additional cost. USPS can be hit-and-miss from time to time.

This is somewhat relevant if you already have a business: https://twitter.com/jasonlk/status/1131951740943839232
Twilio numbers work with some services. Others list them as invalid phone numbers.

I also started receiving texts on my skype number few weeks ago.

Re:Ask HN: A server admin panel that “just works?” on Sunday December 09, 2018 @09:30PM (#18644764)
I built ScaleDynamix[1] with similar goals in mind. It connects to your AWS/GCP/Azure account via terraform and gives you a cpanel like interface to launch sites. You can also horizontally scale the stack either manually or automatically based on utilization. It's optimized for php, but you can run any other languages easily on it.

There is a free version available for non-commercial projects.

Terraform has support for hetzner cloud[1], not sure if that's the same as bare metal.

Re:Ask HN: How did you break a bad habit? on Thursday September 27, 2018 @02:36PM (#18087401)
In my experience, nootropics can be very helpful during first few weeks of trying to break a bad habit. You also need will power / other methods mentioned on this page, but proper nootropic can prevent giving up and going back after 3 days.
Re:Ask HN: How do you work with AWS? on Friday April 27, 2018 @04:47PM (#16944166)
For me, using the console gives me better understanding of all customizable options in single glance, rather than reading the docs.

Once a product works in dev, I use terraform to automate production deployments.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for doing the AMA. Do you also work with companies that are not part of YC? If yes, how do I get in touch with you?

You should also check out Vultr's dedicated core plans [1]. I have ~50 instances running on Vultr and CPU performance / unixbench scores are significantly better than DO and Lightsail's similar sized instances.

Re:Ask HN: How did you significantly reduce your AWS cost? on Monday October 30, 2017 @04:26PM (#15588573)
Small gain: Deleted all snapshots that were accumuated over 6 months across 100 instances. (Generated by Cloudwatch rules).

Interesting choice of domain name. At first I thought this is WhatRunsWhere. [1] I checked a few WordPress sites that use CloudFlare, and it didn't detect WordPress. Let me know if you need the URLs.

Re:Startup School 2017 Presentations on Friday June 16, 2017 @01:20PM (#14570809)
We already had a few thousand in MRR before joining Startup School, but didn't have proper roadmap towards growth, sales, development and running a business in general.

Startup School and the weekly calls helped us identify our weaknesses and now we're better equipped towards scaling Nestify.

screenshotapp.net - Scheduled screenshots of any URL with change detection and email alerts.
Re:Mobile Website Speed Testing Tool on Tuesday January 10, 2017 @06:52PM (#13370467)
You should try http://mobitest.akamai.com/m/index.cgi or http://webpagetest.org instead for accurate results.
It generates screenshots with smaller file size and has an option to add delay before taking screenshots. I used it for a side project[1], but it would randomly die with segfault.

What's the average processing time for Atlas these days? I applied in August, but haven't heard anything till now.
Great job! What sort of resources did you use (Time, Processing power etc) to train this?

Edit: Found it in the article.
