Congrats to the particledb team for getting this far and thanks to @aphyr for the analysis.
It takes gumption to build a new storage engine. I remember when etcd[0] first made it's way into @aphyr's cross-hairs. We took all of the input very seriously because we knew that a data store which is untrustworthy is useless.
Resolving these issues likely won't be easy, but if you can get to the point where you walk away from Jepsen unscathed the trust in your software will be greatly amplified.

Thanks for linking that essay from wikipedia. People seem to forget the burden of fame/infamy.

It's right about now that having a operating system distro model is great - you get folks who will package the software & test it out, make generally sensible defaults, and generally keep shenanigans like this from going on
FYI, since it's the same chipset I'm pretty certain this will work on the Banana Pi R4, which has built in PCIe for NVMe.
Honestly, I'm equally fascinated by the way email has changed. 30 years ago when you drafted an email but didn't send it, it was only on your local machine. There was no SMTP. 20 years ago, it might be a 50/50 shot as to whether you "transmitted" it to your "Drafts" folder if you were using IMAP instead of POP3 to read it.
I will remind folks of the message of the Crimethinc ex-workers collective from 20+ years ago (
https://crimethinc.com/posters/everyone-has-add-but-the-comp...):
> Everyone has A.D.D. but the computers. Ritalin is the grease in the machine that mass-produces disinterested doctors and stifled stockbrokers. We used to have characteristics, now we have symptoms. They know we'll pay anything if they can get us to pay attention. A.D.D. is the wax in the ears of Odysseus' crew that enables them to pass unscathed.

Fun fact: Brad went on to lead 18F. As someone who has worked professionally with him, it's wild to come to grips with the impact he's had on the game industry from Lua to leading divisions of Sony Playstation. He's a humble and sharp guy.

I own the physical book. I really wanted to like it but I found the style of prose grating and the overuse of "ibid" in the citations peeving.
Thanks I was, of course, looking and very curious what their tool chain story will be.

So, what's the "luggable" version of this?
All of these words spilled and no mention of the ISA.
Thanks @CliffStoll for the wonderful talk.
I see you didn't play the game. It's a constant series of clicking in one of a very few points on the screen.
Package management provides cryptographic attestation over the entire process, including the scripts run. Nothing is arbitrary nor mutable in the default state. The files touched will be in a predictable place and the scope of privilege escalation is clearly defined.
The field demo I want to see, Human in the loop to failure switch over: Simulated failure of some form, where (for safety reasons) crew triggers ejection. This defaults the system to autonomous mode and the plane performs a safe landing.
This was why, despite quite a few of us enjoying the gag, we gave up the domain `libcore.so` at CoreOS many, many years ago. Too much of a supply chain risk.
What is this providing over similarly Markdown based open source note taking applications like Joplin? (

I've been a huge fan of the fact that my backend sync infrastructure is my own self-hosted S3 bucket with local clients handling the presentation layer.
> Dopamine neurons respond not to rewards received but to the uncertainty of whether a reward will arrive: the more unpredictable the outcome, the stronger the signal.
This leads me to think about the idea of procrastination as a mechanism of gambling by the sub-conscious. A subversive way of "raising the stakes on the game" in an attempt to "make things a little bit more interesting."
I've noticed that a number of comments seem to have missed the recursive naming pattern:

Dav2d AV2 Decoder
Just like "GNU's Not Unix"
