News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

In terms of the story the patient posted, she has posted MRI pictures of her brain (with her personal information) that tracked with an skull base tumor (according to a quick look by an oncologist, who told me I should really ask a radiologist.) (Which is the epistemic hedging that the article metnions.)

I was also able to verify that of the case numbers she mentions in one of her posts exist and were filed in within the timeline mentioned (late 2025/early 2026), and they've been deemed "non-actionable". (But I couldn't confirm if she was indeed the person that filed them, or if the complaint was indeed against the Greek government.)

the interesting part isn't whether Meta's AI is right or wrong, it's that when N models say "great idea" and one pushes back, the one pushing back feels like the broken one
The definition of SHOULD is "This word, or the adjective "RECOMMENDED", mean that there may exist valid reasons in particular circumstances to ignore a particular item, but the full implications must be understood and carefully weighed before choosing a different course."

I suspect viva.com didn't consider the full implications, and I suspect Google did some hard math on hours saved for their customers

And the definition of "SHOULD" (from RFC 2119) is "This word, or the adjective "RECOMMENDED", mean that there may exist valid reasons in particular circumstances to ignore a particular item, but the full implications must be understood and carefully weighed before choosing a different course."

Having said that, I regret my original characterization of the Message-ID header as a "requirement" and have updated the blogpost to be fair to all sides.

Thank you for bringing this up.

I suspect that Google going out of their way to make this required had a very reasonable and thought-out process, while the sender's omission was on oversight, so I haven't contacted Google Workspace support.

What's truly iffy is that GMail doesn't have the same strict requirements, and there's no way (at least that I found) to turn it off for my Google Workspace domain.

Thank you! I added a screenshot of the Google Workspace Admin log screen... just becuase.
I've added a screenshot at the end of the blog post just to clarify that.
SHIBBOLEET. I was seriously thinking of this when I contacted them :)
I borderline wanted to say "shibboleet" to the customer support agent, but I had serious doubts it's a relevant cultural reference. (https://xkcd.com/806/)
Thank you for the recommendation! That I couldn't sign up using a form and I had to "talk to their team" was a turn-off for my (extremely extroverted) self.
As a European (who spent 15 years in the US), I coudln't agree more. And while I agree, at the end of the day, I just want the better product for me.
You're totally right. I've updated the blog to reflect this. Thank you!
Re:Have Taken Up Farming on Thursday January 15, 2026 @05:01AM (#46630425)
It takes courage to step away from what you were known for, and even more to return and explain why. The journey from burnout to renewal resonates deeply with me, and I suspect many of us recognize the slow decay you're describing.

I'm on a similar path myself, hoping to marry open source and open hardware with farming. Heartfelt congrats to Dylan on finding WILD and the clarity to change course.

Re:Redis vs. BoltCache on Thursday December 25, 2025 @12:46PM (#46385880)
The “Lua engine” seems to support only one, hardcoded, command (redis.call) with no other syntax/lua operators! It even lacks conditionals! https://github.com/wutlu/boltcache/blob/main/lua.go
seriously, this embodied interaction angle seems like a much more humane way to understand AI behavior than just staring at walls of text. even if it occasionally feels like you're running a very advanced digital terrarium
Kudos, this is a very novel take! What's the most surprising emergent behavior you've observed? Have you observed any "social dynamics" that you didn't explicitly program?

Ask HN: Did Wolt Disable Apple Pay in EU?

Wolt, a major Postmates/Uber Eats-like player in Europe seems to have disabled the Apple Pay payment option in Europe. But my App Store account is US-based, and my CC was issued in the US. How does Wolt determine where it’s allowed to not offer Apple Pay? Why would they do that?

Re:Demystifying Cookies and Tokens on Thursday July 25, 2024 @03:46AM (#41065919)
* "Session ID" is not a cookie attribute akin to path or expires.

* There's no "Session" attribute -- (when no expires is set, it's a session cookie)

* session cookies deletion is misstated

* JWTs are just a possible format for OAuth, not a requirement

* incorrectly states that jwts are signed but not encrypted

Re:Begging EuroRust to acknowledge independent workers on Monday April 08, 2024 @07:37PM (#39974809)
Source? Reference?

From my experience as a sole proprietor in the EU, yes... you very much need invoices issued with your VAT number for any business expense, or else you get in big trouble. (Also many invoices in EU are e-invoices, which means the tax authorities get updated in real-time, so your tax account gets updated automatically, so you don't have to file taxes -- you just see a balance of what you owe and from what transaction...)

Also... the author's main point is that policies should make sense, not that the loophole is difficult or risky to exploit.

Re:The Problem of Piracy on Saturday April 06, 2024 @03:05PM (#39954610)
You're describing civil disobedience, and its moral justifiability is a well-research topic of ethics.

In my understand, there are several elements for something to be civil disobedience, and therefore possibly morally justifiable: (1) having exhausted other means, (2) using it for political purposes (in the sense that you're doing it to inform/affect your polity--your community), and (3) accepting the legal consequences of your actions (i.e. turning yourself in).

i love this
edit: Okay, nvm, thank you for giving me permission to form opinions -- I regret attempting to dive down into "why people come to the idea [of shadiness]". Your position is understandable, best of luck.

Peace :)

original post: That's how posting on a forum works --- most people read, very few engage.

I've been reluctant to engage because I found some answers like "you can go look at the pricing in the HTML of the SPA" particularly uninviting.

Especially after I invested some time... trying to comprehend how much I should care about what you're building.

Thank you for all the other points -- and let me put aside any "something feels off" references/notes/comments.

(In my (very limited) life experience, when you ask for feedback... actually addressing it goes very well (in life, and also on HN). Additionally, introducing yourself as an actual person with a backstory seems to work.

In case you have never ran across it, may I recommend https://news.ycombinator.com/yli.html ?

My main question (and point of curiosity) remains:

You seem to love building BrowserBox. Why? How did you come across this?

(This is supposed to be an anthropocentric question, thereby best answered by anthropocentric terms -- not technological terms.)

GIVE US THE/A NARRATIVE.

I just wanted to acknowledge how wholesome your answer was, and thank you for it.

(Hopefully you get acquired sometime soon, and then "you"'ll be sending marketing materials :P -- like it or not.)
