Re:Self-Taught Engineers Often Outperform on Thursday July 17, 2025 @09:21PM (#44600208)
I guess it's entirely dependent on the type of programmer. Low-level work with a huge emphasis on data structures and algos, absolutely.
Re:Self-Taught Engineers Often Outperform on Thursday July 17, 2025 @09:17PM (#44600178)
I'm just curious: if you swap the arbitrary 85% out for a more generalized statement, would you agree or disagree with the OP's comment?
Re:Self-Taught Engineers Often Outperform on Thursday July 17, 2025 @09:13PM (#44600161)
This mirrors my experience as well. I have a masters in CS, but I have to admit that self-taught devs usually exhibit more tenacity.
Re:Zelensky leaves White House after angry meeting on Friday February 28, 2025 @04:44PM (#43211757)
Well said. I completely agree.
Re:Zelensky leaves White House after angry meeting on Friday February 28, 2025 @04:19PM (#43211196)
Genuine question: what is the solution?

The United States has given Ukraine billions. That hasn't seemed to resolved the issue?

Re:Zelensky leaves White House after angry meeting on Friday February 28, 2025 @04:11PM (#43211002)
How is my statement "disgusting"?

I am anti-war. I truly want peace.

Re:Zelensky leaves White House after angry meeting on Friday February 28, 2025 @03:55PM (#43210625)
Trump is calling for peace and a ceasefire agreement.

Zelensky won't agree?

OP just graciously accepted that feedback, no need to be condescending :)
Re:Reverse Engineering Ticketmaster's Rotating Barcodes on Monday July 08, 2024 @08:46PM (#40911448)
Excellent point. I wonder if Ticketmaster profits by making interest off of holding those funds?
OP said "higher interest rates" relative to historic lows in '20-21.

Your comment does not negate the effect that interest rates have had on affordability. The last time interest rates were this high, home prices were significantly lower than what they are now. Wages have not kept up with inflation.

Nice work! This reminds me of the "Advance Wars" game series on GBA.
Re:Ask HN: How do you handle your emails for custom domains on Thursday December 21, 2023 @03:58PM (#38726848)
Exactly! Just low-volume contact@[domain].TLD for each as a placeholder.
Correct. At a minimum, those are not a security.

Gensler has commented on those specifically in the past [1].

That is different. GH link vs YT video.
Re:The Design of SQLite4 on Friday June 17, 2022 @07:07PM (#31785613)
>SQLite4 was an experimental rewrite of SQLite that was active from 2012 through 2014. All development work on SQLite4 has ended. Lessons learned from SQLite4 have been folded into the main SQLite3 product. SQLite4 was never released. There are no plans to revive it. You should be using SQLite3.

Classic strawman argument. OP didn't accredit all success to Bezos.

And yes, Amazon is frighteningly large.

I guess the creator added that specifically for the YouTubers and TikTokers who failed to credit the site: https://twitter.com/fifteenai/status/1522289980420337666

Ironic how their "Statuspage" product is having issues.

Sure, but I found the article incredibly insightful.

Ask HN: How to get a list of all registered domains

Currently I am downloading and parsing the .com TLD zone file and extracting all mapped NS records. However, this doesn't cover cases where a NS record isn't present. What is the most reliable/accurate way of determining all registered domain names (.com TLD only for now).
