Re:Ask HN: Should I leave the company I co-founded? on Tuesday March 25, 2025 @01:37AM (#43468378)
Let me play the devil's advocate. How do you know that you are right and they are wrong. All along you both were on the same page and you are successful. May be they are right. But, in any case, it all depends on the contract you have. Legally binding crap takes precedence. The next best option is to to sell, may be 60 or 75% stake to the other co-founder. They have the right of first refusal rather than selling it to your competitor. In any case, be very friendly. If and when it goes south, they may need you to right the ship. As always, you are the best judge of the situation.

Re:Ask HN: Son is major in CS, but doesn't code. Red flag? on Tuesday January 10, 2023 @11:08AM (#34326993)
I think you may be confusing CS with Software Engineering. CS is a math heavy field that talks about computing machines, architecture, Operating system, among tons of other things. At Masters level, a degree of programming is almost always a pre-req unless the University is a diploma mill.

I have vast industry experience. I know lot of problems in different businesses. The challenge I have is putting together a good 2-3 member team. My friends are retired full time workers. If you are interested, DM me.

You have to choose the right road with right companion for the journey. If you choose the wrong road, does not matter how fast or hard you go, you will never get there.

Text, slack for information. I am a phone person. Text is dumb pipe.

Ask HN: Do you think technology as 5th dimension?

It sounds insane but please bear with me. Lets take this Roe V Wade decision. I bet in the next 10 years' time (or thereabouts), getting self-aborted using an app by standing on a weighing machine is in the horizon. So I think, effectively, most of the concepts that exists now are designed by our current/past ways of static living.

Ask HN: Is life so regimented to schedule 15min meeting?

During meetups, I share my cell number hoping to have casual offline to explore mutual technical interests. But some of them prefer setting up meeting. I am all for meeting when the project engagement is full swing, but first few meeting?? Is life so clockwork to some? Or they have too many things going on that unless it is in schedule (calendly/zoom), the meeting would never happen? In that...

Re:Ask HN: Starting a Career in Programming at 61? on Saturday March 26, 2022 @12:56AM (#30809337)
Since the question is a bit open-ended, here are the possible options.... If he wants to do programming for fun, which is not the case, I think age does not matter. Actually programming for fun is a good place to start - get a feel - and then monetize the skill accordingly. I believe with his management skills, like 20-40% technical skills is all that is required to be a techno-functional-engineering manager (depending on the organization). Since he is new to programming, he does not have the "baggage" of outdated/irrelevant skillsets (CORBA anyone?) - so that is a good thing. Barrier to entry is low which is good - so it is a good idea that if he wants to take this up! I think the challenge would be, with his management skills, it would be hard to swallow how some managers mismanage...

Ask HN: How should I design flexible domain model

I want to build a domain model where the model elements/fields' relationship depends on categories of requests. Let me explain: If requests are from CompanyA then Order Title is same as the line items, and the line item names are parameters. Also depending on the type of Title category, the average cost of items are weighted differently.

The BEST product launch I have seen in HN. Very impressive resumes with grit and passion!! Am a born vegetarian (Lacto-vegan). When 1 lb of meat is produced by 600 lbs of grass, we definitely need more efficient ways of making meat. I dont want to eat meat but I will be your secret supporter and secretly follow your progress. Cheers!

I STOPPED USING JETBRAINS. All fake profile responses can try some other sites.
Russia passed a law to use nukes for conventional attack even on foreign soil...
Yeah, 2 owners like Guantanamo? Ukraine can relinquish control for a known time, even a year. Russia would dare not start war by crossing another country. If there is no will to defend, there is no solution.
You are confusing an individual from a sovereign state. If a state buys it, it belongs to the state where the constitution protections are enforced.
what is EU going to do if Russia invades Poland anyway? Thermonuclear war? Are you saying the whole security apparatus and international institutions are all bluff? If so, Russia would have figured out the bluff by now.
I am not saying from defensive posture -but from a posture to prevent further escalation and aggression. Russia is able to do what it does is simply because it thinks it can get away with it. It is not fair - so ring fencing at the cheapest cost to force NATO to trigger Article V will give pause. will Russia cross the red line?
it worked for hong kong, guantanamo etc. Sell the whole Ukraine for a $ to be redeemed on par in future. Russia will halt all crap in 0.001 seconds.
not the border, i mean arbitrary land, say 50 miles, along the border.
I think while Russia thinks creatively, the other side thinks linearly. Spain, UK, France or Poland should buy the land and poke a finger at the aggressor - just a thought.
Re:Understanding the War in Ukraine on Saturday February 26, 2022 @02:53AM (#30475909)
what if it is a news that Putin has a serious disease like cancer and wants to initiate or consolidate his legacy?
Before starting a business (which means you want to work for yourself and make money), you have to build on your expertise and strengths. If you are a software professional, may be you can start a SAAS or some service business. If you are a chef, then starting a restaurant is a natural line of work. You should also know a little bit of accounting and rules and regulations in your business. Please do not hesitate to DM me.
Re:Ask HN: How did you move on from past experiences? on Saturday January 01, 2022 @01:54AM (#29756213)
I have been through tough times. Here is what I found that worked - assess your strengths and keep a tab on skills you want to acquire - hobbies, softskills like empathy etc is more important than technical/work skills - music mostly classical ones - friends - chat up - cooking - reading something/anything even many times over. Bottom like - you do anything that gets you in a flow. Time is a great healer.
Re:Ask HN: What's the Point of Life? on Saturday October 16, 2021 @06:21PM (#28892093)
The point of life is to enjoy as much as you want. If you want to prove you are the most noble - yes there is a way or most educated, yes there is a way too. You can decide to maximize and minimize whatever you want. Your question comes off as if "What is the point of Life (as decided by someone and I am trying to figure out)". The answer is there is no point set by anyone other than you (or who controls like, if you were in specific countries/area domicile).
You can then write some proprietary components and add a note to the original work that to get additional features, they should email you. M&M principle could also work.
The whole article could be summed up in few sentences. This article is a waste of time.
