Re:Recycled Cardboard Bicycles For $9? on Wednesday July 25, 2012 @12:46PM (#4291765)
Where did everyone get the idea that it was "disposable"? All I got from the article/video was that it was made of recycled material.

I would like to know how durable this bike is, and how much energy is saved by using recycled cardboard versus a metal sourced by mining.

It's not information that's to blame, it's the condition of the world we live in. Knowing about glaring inequities will either

Cause resentment because one is at the bottom of the pyramid

OR

Create guilt because one is at the top of the pyramid

Add to that the realization that very few people are "self-made" and timing, family, culture and conditioning play a huge role in success and you have a recipe for self-doubt/flagellation.

In my case, I just hit a wall when self-preservation kicked in and said "I WILL BE HAPPY, DAMMIT!". I still work at projects I think will make the world better, but don't let their success or failure cloud my feelings. I'm content most of the time.

I've heard that single-founder startups are frowned on by investors. Is it harder to raise money without a co-founder?

I think it's a combination of top notch care and an engaged mind. Even the medical establishment is acknowledging the connection between state of the mind and health (placebo effect research).

Show HN: Skip the Gifts (weekend project)

Site link: http://skipthegifts.comWith non profits and people struggling to make ends meet, prominent public figures have called on us to support charities instead of giving gifts this holiday season. The problem as a gift giver is knowing whether the recipient would prefer a gift or a charitable donation. Makes it easier if the recipient declares that they would prefer to forgo gifts and...
