For past events, you can certainly store them as UTC and (possibly implied) location, provided that you also have a historically accurate database of all past time zone changes, so that you do not report that a meeting took place at 9:00 when it actually happened at 10:00, but the current time zone rules (at that location) are not the same today as they were at the time.

For future events, you have to store them as location + timezone-naive dates and times, a.k.a. local time. Since if a meeting at a certain location is scheduled at 9:00, which is currently at 02:00 UTC, and then a timezone change happens, and UTC 2 suddenly means 10:00 at that same future date and location, the meeting will still happen at 9:00 local time. You cannot store future events as UTC only.

No program using sprites and sound could be written in only Commodore 64 BASIC. But large parts of Sword of Fargoal was indeed written in normal Commodore 64 BASIC. I remember (from some time in the mid-to-late 1980’s) being surprised when I managed to crash the game and getting a BASIC error message.

Like those paper cutouts of lizards that people put on walls in order to fascinate cats.
IIRC, the 1983 dungeon crawler Sword of Fargoal was written in real Commodore 64 BASIC.

The same applies there, except he hasn’t made a second book.

Via <https://data.iana.org/TLD/tlds-alpha-by-domain.txt>, <https://www.unicode.org/Public/UNIDATA/UnicodeData.txt>, some Python and some regexps.

(I don’t know anything about Unicode case conversions.)

Re:It's the Memory Latency, Stupid on Sunday November 01, 2026 @01:59AM (#50323292)
From what I understand, it is mostly the very rigid and prescriptive attitude which the average reader gets from his book, which, if you listen to him talk, was not his intent. He even published a new 2025 edition of “Clean Code” to try and fix this, by making the text less self-assured. So while he may or may not be responsible, he did not intend it.

That’s the source code for the icepi.cx web site, not the information itself.
Re:Commodore 1600 VICmodem on Friday October 30, 2026 @09:34AM (#50303662)
I came to say the same thing. “How many baud was it?” is the immediate question anyone familiar with modems would have, but it is nowhere in the text. Only in the image of the advertisement does it say that it is 300 baud. Because people who would want to buy one would want to know.

It is broken for you by upstream NAT and CGNAT.

Requesting people to behave ethically might be unrealistic, but it is never unreasonable.

You won’t get a usable reference. Approximately nobody who complains about Wikipedia ever gives links, or even article titles.

As now multiple other comments in this thread seem to show, “this issue” seems to be entirely that a four-hour documentary that nobody went to see was cancelled by theaters.
Well, no, I frequently hear, especially from Americans, that unless it’s government action, then it’s not “censorship”, but “consequences”.

That’s what “free” means. Otherwise, nothing is “free” except maybe sunlight.

Re:Namecheap just seized and disabled all my domains on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @12:17PM (#50168673)
My advice is: Find a small registrar in your jurisdiction, as reasonably close to you as you can find. I think this is good, actionable, advice. If this happens to be the same jurisdiction and area as my company, you will find it.

But as I have written elsewhere¹, my company’s home page isn’t even available in English. You are most likely not in our target market.

I was not aware that carbon dating could be this accurate.
