this is cool! but how is it diff than vendr?
Another idea: line up some dev consulting work that would enable you to spend more time per week (in aggregate) than the 2-3 hours per day you're spending now. Consulting offers higher hourly wages and more flexibility, generally speaking.

There are clear downsides too. You would need to source these contracts yourself and figure out health insurance for your family.

Re:Show HN: Simple cloud deployments with CD as-a-Service on Wednesday July 13, 2022 @02:55PM (#32087192)
Indeed. Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for developers to enable CD. It's still super early in this space, as shown by the fact that most companies have homegrown tooling (usually some scripts on top of Jenkins). It shouldn't be that way. When you think about other categories within DevOps (observability, security, alerting) there are many out-of-the-box tools to choose from such that one would never say "I think I'll build an observability tool from scratch here".

Thanks, falconwizard. What do you like about it?

How are you doing your deployments today? And, any other targets other than K8s?

Show HN: Simple cloud deployments with CD as-a-Service

Hey folks, I'm Ben from Armory.io (YC W17). We just launched Continuous Deployment-as-a-Service (CDaaS) to make it easy for developers to deploy their apps safely to the cloud. We’d greatly appreciate (raw, candid) feedback from the HN community if this solution improves the speed at which you deploy to production. We have a free-forever tier that gives you up to 25 Application Targets[1] (our...

appreciate everything you did to help us on our journey, and good luck on your next one.
Hey Tara team. Ben here from Armory (YC W17). Love that you are tackling this very important problem for product and eng teams. We use JIRA (surprise!) as do all of customers. I've long wished I had the time and energy to think about and maybe even tackle the challenge you are facing - building a JIRA-killer. Go forth and conquer! I would be very happy to help in any way I can!
That is correct. Google played a big role in open-sourcing Spinnaker alongside Netflix back in Nov 2015.
I assume you mean the Spinnaker/K8s v1 provider abstracted away the K8s primatives. The new v2 provider allows you to deploy manifests and supports all K8s objects.
Would love to understand more about why you ended up choosing Weave.
A (potentially) better approach to going multi-cloud is to use a CD tool like Spinnaker (spinnaker.io), which Google and Microsoft both support - and Netflix supports the integrations to AWS.

(full disclosure: my startup, Armory.io, builds enterprise features on top of Spinnaker)

We’ve seen a few fundamental changes in culture across the board.

1. Product engineers are embracing ownership, and despite being on-call, they are excited at the prospect of being able to deploy their apps whenever they want.

2. Ops teams are transforming into engineering teams. When you start to automate everything (monitoring, deployments, testing, etc), it frees up ops folks to work on more interesting problems within an organization.

Btw, I realize our website still has "hosted spinnaker" as a product offering. It was the first thing we built, but as mentioned above, we pivoted towards an "on-prem" (in your AWS) version after conversations with lots of customers.
I'm one of the cofounders of Armory. Thanks for letting us know of the timeout - we're looking into that now.

Today, our enterprise version of Spinnaker is hosted within your AWS account, not truly hosted Spinnaker as a service, although we def plan to offer that down the road. Our current customers have told us they prefer to run Spinnaker inside their own accounts b/c they fear data leakage.

Zappos is a good example of an acquisition that maintained its original culture.

You're right, the original date was Oct 28th. It got moved up to the 25th, not sure why.

In the last batch, YC sent out emails in late afternoon/evening PT.

Re:We Need a Warby Parker for Mattresses on Friday September 14, 2012 @01:53PM (#4523000)
I completely agree! I recently went shopping for a mattress at Sleep Train and they admitted that they mask the model numbers of their mattresses so you can't find them online for cheaper. Someone please build this.
