Where do we get the soundtrack and merch?
Re:I Regret Migrating to Codeberg on Friday July 24, 2026 @01:18AM (#49031465)
I think Codeberg is well within its rights to offer services in the way that it wants. If customers don't like it they can move & stop paying. Find a host that fits the terms you want and expect. That is what is great about Codeberg, no lockin no scam.
Re:Why are your models so big? (2023) on Saturday December 06, 2025 @11:01AM (#46174318)
Try being over 30 sitting at a desk your while life and then try and use a 13” screen. Eye strain is a huge deal.

My opinion on this changed drastically when I started interacting with people outside of tech and not my own age. A device you struggle to see is miserable.

Re:The challenge of writing a on-demand transcoder on Saturday June 15, 2024 @12:22AM (#40687505)
Thanks for this! I'd been following several other attempts and making HLS/transcoding servers but they had all pretty much given up before making something real. Kyoo looks great, and awesome post. Can't wait to hear more about your adventures.
Re:macOS 14.4 causes JVM crashes on Monday March 25, 2024 @02:30PM (#39819716)
It is always funny to Me when Apple zealots come into threads blaming everyone but Apple that software broke. Complaining Java doesn’t follow Apple standards or some crap. Then 9 days later Apple issues a fix because they did indeed break it.
Re:A small Universe on Tuesday September 12, 2023 @08:47PM (#37490745)
If you do not want to use key combinations all the time, and just want real quotes always.

macOS latest: Settings -> Keyboard -> Text Input area, hit edit next to input sources "use smart quotes and dashes", you can turn it off or choose which quotes you want to use.

previous macOS: Settings -> Keyboard -> Look around in here, there is a smart quotes & dashes or Replacements area you can choose the real quote characters.

That would be pretty anti-competitive of them given they would have to unblock their own ads to make money
Re:How and Why I Stopped Buying New Laptops (2020) on Saturday July 08, 2023 @03:08PM (#36647675)
I like my framework and the 2 mini pc made from upgrading the internals. The slots are pass through thunderbolt 4 just like laptops with only USB’s ports. Not sure why they offended you. Get 4 usbc inserts and pretend they aren’t changeable if that’ll calm you down. Battery life does suck though I’ll give you that. It’s good overall at the cost though
Re:Gitlab to lay off 7% of staff on Thursday February 09, 2023 @09:46AM (#34724680)
If they would lower their prices to be competitive they’d get a lot more cash. We tried to switch to Gitlab and at every turn they acted like We just weren’t worth the $$. Seems they want nothing but big enterprise accounts and they push everyone else to free
Scrolling would require the presenter to constantly reference a screen He/She/They may not be able to see.
I thought google announced a long time ago that Stadia was a failure and they were taking it enterprise only or something. This post doesn’t make a lot of sense to Me, I’ve not talked to anyone who thought Stadia was still an active consumer product
Re:Framework Laptop 2.5Gbps Ethernet Expansion Card on Monday September 12, 2022 @09:09PM (#32819537)
I have it, and love it. Plus they double as regular dongles for my pos M1 macbook
Re:Misrepresenting open source for business benefit on Monday June 27, 2022 @04:16PM (#31900180)
You don’t have to use the sdk install and probably don’t want to if You’re developing Qt OSS software. Target the distribution or build it Yourself. https://wiki.qt.io/Get_the_Source
Re:Gnome patent troll stripped of patent rights on Thursday April 28, 2022 @04:22PM (#31197730)
I understood that it cost Gnome $150k for Gnome to settle and obtain their own exclusive right of usage instead of doing the right thing and fight the patent.
No one has sold me out in the 2 years. I think they know and scan for it before sales.
Re:Little rant about GNOME's file manager (a.k.a. Nautilus) on Thursday April 14, 2022 @02:26PM (#31031191)
Gnome developers actively discourage fixing things yourself even though they often use that as a reply to bug reports. Fixes are often rejected as "not bugs" so most just give up and move on.
Re:Bringing the Framework Laptop to more of the world on Wednesday February 23, 2022 @08:25AM (#30440686)
Weird, I love the touchpad. So much better than My Dell XPS 9710
I think I probably would have just cancelled the kids phone plans.

Re:System76: A Case Study on How Not to Collaborate with Upstream on Wednesday November 10, 2021 @12:47AM (#29171501)
Sounds cool. If they can fund it & have fun doing it could be neat.

All desktops started at Zero and competition will drive others to stay ahead or fall behind

Re:System76: A Case Study on How Not to Collaborate with Upstream on Wednesday November 10, 2021 @12:42AM (#29171468)
Eh, I find it hard to relate to complaints when Gnome devs have spent the last 20 years treating users like they don’t know how to use a mouse & telling anyone Who wants to make it better that they are wrong.
The phone and watch are advertised as intergraded with each other so this does not happen. Just like answering FaceTime on one device is supposed to stop the others from ringing. It is a feature of the watch and iPhone to figure out which should be listening and it is broken.

To the article’s point, Amazon’s has no problem Determining which should answer a question if they are all the same account piled on your desk.

Not sure what You mean. Do You mean Youtube use other business’ wires, electricity, and services that Youtube pays for to provide You with free videos?
The only reason You can watch any video for free on Youtube at all is because Youtube chooses to let you do so. It is not a public forum for debate, it is a business.
Re:Using a disk-based Redis clone to reduce AWS S3 bill on Tuesday April 27, 2021 @05:10PM (#26961598)
Fair enough, I should work on changing My tone. Thanks for the feedback.
Re:Using a disk-based Redis clone to reduce AWS S3 bill on Tuesday April 27, 2021 @01:33PM (#26958984)
All problems are solvable by switching to AWS EC2 which doesn't cost money to transfer Data out of S3 to begin with.
Re:Using a disk-based Redis clone to reduce AWS S3 bill on Tuesday April 27, 2021 @01:27PM (#26958912)
You could just host in AWS EC2 pay the extra few dimes and not pay ANY S3 transfer cost.
Re:Using a disk-based Redis clone to reduce AWS S3 bill on Tuesday April 27, 2021 @01:26PM (#26958900)
I want to hate AWS as much as the next guy, but this is nearly the dumbest thing I've seen trending lately. They are paying money for something that is FREE to save a dime.

AWS S3 -> AWS EC2 bandwidth is FREE. To pay money to send the data to DO EC2 and then build a Redis cache to save a few dimes on EC2 that the D.O. Redis cluster now spends is...

just wow.
