Thanks a lot georgerobinson! We are really really happy that we are able to make your HN experience an awesome one - I can assure you that the PRO version definitely has more to come :)
We will look into the font changing, it will be on our list.
Thanks again!
We are taking the reading experience very seriously and thus, dynamic type is definitely in the pipeline.
As for higher contrast theme, one of the theme in Pro version (the Robin) is specifically made for that people who prefer high contrast reading experience.
Definitely give it a try and let us know what you think :)
Not yet in our 1.0 (which is our MVP), but I can assure you it is in the pipeline :)
Thanks for your love towards the Akepa logo ;)
I will see if I can do some write ups on the design process for the app, which can be interesting (or boring) I think.
But hey, thanks again!
Nah, you are not blind, I can't figure that out either. we will put the suggested feature (share to chrome) in the list, if it's not too tricky, likely it will be there in the next version since it's something affecting the HN consumption experience :)
Trust me (and us), we wanted to make the best HN reading experience on Android devices as well, but we are totally short of hands, therefore iOS for now.
Hey,
Thanks for the report! We are going for a quick fix now, something on the validation server :P
Thanks for the support!
Thanks for the offer! Appreciate that :)
Indeed, with the resources available online, it's totally possible to learn new skills if I spend some time on them.
That's what I thought too - that's why I am just curious if there is any great example that founded only by one designer founder, though I totally understand the importance of having a co-founder with strong technical background.
Yeah, I know what you mean - deep inside I truly believe I have both, but yeah, haven't been tested so far.
Hey,
Akepa designer here. Thanks a lot! We did put in quite some effort to ensure the 1.0 is polished enough to give the best reading experience that we wanted to deliver - it seems that we are able to put smile on some faces, which is pretty awesome!
Thanks for the suggestion - we will put the 'yesterday's best' page in the feature request list for prioritisation (I can assure you there are tons of interesting features planned for the next few releases). As for readability mode by default, sure thing! That's something we wanted to do but we decided to leave it out from our MVP, so yeah, upcoming release should have it.
We are a team of 5, and we roughly spent about 4 months for project planning, design and development.
Don't hesitate to let us know if you have some idea how we can further improve the HN experience :)

I am curious to ask this because looking at most of the startups, the founders are usually with very strong technical background, so I am wondering as a non-technical person (designer) like me, is it just a dream that I can create and manage a successful startup?

I have a Moto 360 and I used it everyday. Mainly using it for notification peek to see if I needed to respond immediately on them when the phone is in my pocket - I only turned on the notification for the apps that I cared about. Also often I used it to make call, send message, add quick reminder/note using voice when I am driving.
Though I must say it is not a must-have, just an extension to the smartphone, which is doing just fine without any other accessories.
The only one main issue with current gen smart watch is the battery life (except the Pebble of course), which can be frustrating because you need to charge it everyday, especially some of them need special charging docks (like Moto 360), but so far I am already used to it, so it was an OK for me, still, if you run out of battery, you can't even tell the time which is slightly not-so-funny sometimes.

This is awesome - this will definitely helps spread great words with nice design :)
Would love to have PDF download as well, and probably more font pairing (like 3 fonts, third font use !!), but in any case, this is already quite awesome!
Thanks Glen Maddern!
That's true, but that's where you have the door sign says 'DND', at least the hotels that I have stayed so far have this 'feature'.
Sounds interesting, but for me, I think I would still prefer a more 'human' environment for hotel - robots might be highly efficient on some tasks, but they will never able to replace the 'human' part, which I thoroughly enjoy when I travel.
I think he has some valid points in his rant, although I must say I enjoyed my Paperwhite 1st Gen very much and I don't find those issues (especially on the justification and font choices) to be a blocker for me from enjoying the books.

Is it for testing? I supposed you can easily disable the image and CSS loading with the web developer tool, say, on Chrome.
It's about the display with 8K resolution, not 8 thousand monitors. Good to see that they are prepare to be future-proof for the next 5-10 years.
It's enabled exactly when you have 500 karma. One of my colleague just got that.
I just saw the gameplay of it and I am impressed! That's really justified the size - the details are just amazing!
Check out the gameplay here:

Oh wow, this is amazing! Looks like it only need a split second to remember the positions of the number in sequence - Unbelievable!
