Re:Switzerland. Block by block. At 1:1 scale on Monday October 26, 2026 @02:22PM (#50248497)
Makes me say "The map is not the territory." But the story I am thinking of most after readhing this is "On Exactitude in Science" ("Del rigor en la ciencia") by Jorge Luis Borges.

> In that Empire, the Art of Cartography attained such Perfection that the map of a single Province occupied the entirety of a City, and the map of the Empire, the entirety of a Province. In time, those Unconscionable Maps no longer satisfied, and the Cartographers Guilds struck a Map of the Empire whose size was that of the Empire, and which coincided point for point with it. The following Generations, who were not so fond of the Study of Cartography as their Forebears had been, saw that that vast Map was Useless, and not without some Pitilessness was it, that they delivered it up to the Inclemencies of Sun and Winters. In the Deserts of the West, still today, there are Tattered Ruins of that Map, inhabited by Animals and Beggars; in all the Land there is no other Relic of the Disciplines of Geography.

There are fun conditions under which a quasicrystalline clock could coordinate this in a distributed way. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_crystal

mine is: "benchmark in load and wall-insensitive witnesses"

it's tempting, but otherwise you're just attesting the limits of the current environment

This protocol would be a great match for UCAN.

Steal their testing substrate. The offline evaluation is genuinely fucking clever.
Re:Why Don't People Use Formal Methods? (2019) on Thursday July 30, 2026 @01:16PM (#49112875)
Where formality, when right, still goes wrong:

0) premature but fitting;

1) settled but situationally mismatched;

2) same formal token, different external meaning.

Even looking at this bash makes me shudder.
Re:Stripe, Advent offer to buy PayPal for more than $53B on Wednesday July 15, 2026 @03:22PM (#48925825)
My worry is that fees might go through the roof without any other options
Re:John Coltrane Illustrates the Mathematics of Jazz on Tuesday April 07, 2026 @02:09PM (#47679122)
I notice it's a double ring, not a single circle. Two concentric chromatic rings, offset. That's not decoration: the outer ring and inner ring are the same field read at a phase offset (looks like a tritone / minor-third rotation). Fault tolerance!
Re:Claude Code weekly rate limits on Monday July 28, 2025 @03:05PM (#44714222)
I imagine this was not surprising. This had to have been well-considered by the teams in the first round of pricing. I'm guessing they just didn't want it to be a blocker for release and the implementation is now catching up.

There should be a poison pill for these types of services that give the guy from Pinboard the first right of refusal.
The way my favorite boss told me, it was "don't let `great` be the enemy of `good enough.`"
