> I was looking for a setting to turn off Youtube Shorts

I put out shortless [0] for the very same reason...I just hate them. This works only on Safari, but I stopped using the native app altogether a long time ago, so it wasn't that big of a jump for me :)

Could this work (or planned) on gVisor-based sandboxes?
Re:Crypto Miner in hotio/qbittorrent on Tuesday September 23, 2025 @07:54AM (#45345704)
In my case, web UI was behind qbittorrent auth + authelia, haven't seen suspected logs that would trace it back to that, really interesting though!
Re:Returning to Nim from Python and Rust on Saturday February 18, 2023 @12:36PM (#34848925)
Lackluster from the (albeit) little time I’ve experienced it. For what’s worth, I’m on macOS and using LLDB
Re:Returning to Nim from Python and Rust on Saturday February 18, 2023 @12:19PM (#34848704)
The authors praised Rust debugging capabilities (also) in VScode, can somebody point to some references on this? From what I’ve seen around and what I’m able to debug in my VScode environment I might be missing something…
Re:Dagger Python SDK: Develop Your CI/CD Pipelines as Code on Thursday November 10, 2022 @01:42PM (#33551136)
This is something I’d love to try on my personal projects.

I recently used act[0] to locally test my GitHub actions pipelines and worked okay, the fact that I could interact with the Dagger API via a Python SDK could be even more convenient, will definitely try!

Moved to Berlin (from Milan) just 2 weeks ago, would gladly join and have nice drink :)
Re:Ask HN: So you moved off Heroku, where did you go? on Tuesday October 04, 2022 @02:45AM (#33077275)
I've tried both render and fly.io, finally settled with fly. Love the DX!
Re:Why modern software is slow on Friday September 30, 2022 @06:24AM (#33033100)
This is interesting, I have talked about this on my blog[1] where I have linked to Jonathan Blow's famous talk.

I guess that we stopped caring about performance in software a while ago...

You must be lucky, not everywhere in the sector that’d be remotely close to true unfortunately…

Oh, how kind of you.

Re:Don't Pay UK on Wednesday September 07, 2022 @01:25AM (#32746690)
What?! Following this logic then, the bread riots in the French Revolution[0] would not have happened because “they don’t have the money but they have time to start riots to demand a cap on the price of the good”?

By the way, I’m not commenting on whether this is the right approach to the issue, just commenting the current situation considering what’s happening now.

> If one million people came together to put solar panels on roofs - that would be cool!

That would be “cool” and actually great. The problem is that people who cannot get through the month because the bills have skyrocketed, cannot afford the upfront price of installing solar panels. So unless there’s government intervention, I don’t really think this would be feasible.

Re:Show HN: WakaQ - a Python distributed task queue on Tuesday September 06, 2022 @01:26AM (#32733214)
I really like the simplicity (i.e. readability) of the codebase, nice!
Re:We clone a running VM in 2 seconds on Friday September 02, 2022 @07:42AM (#32689454)
I am using a Python runtime
Re:We clone a running VM in 2 seconds on Friday September 02, 2022 @02:52AM (#32687445)
Slightly OT, but I have a question on AWS Lambda(s) since they run on Firecracker MicripoVM(s): have somebody found a way to reduce cold-starts times?

Online I was only able to find that the way to go seems to be to produce an heartbeat on a rolling schedule, wanted to look into this.

Re:The Apollo On-Board Computers on Monday August 08, 2022 @01:51AM (#32382703)
In addition to the fantastic ccc.de talk, I suggest this one related to the 1202 alarm: https://youtu.be/B1J2RMorJXM

Great talk and overall super presenter IMHO.

Re:AWS SecretsManager Operational Issue on Wednesday July 27, 2022 @03:25PM (#32255476)
AWS SM is having issues in the `us` region, I'm currently on-call and wondered that maybe somebody else would be impacted by this as well!

Yep, we have moved to google workspace chat for the time being. Panic :)
Re:Datadog dashboard for the Texas power grid on Monday July 25, 2022 @02:43AM (#32221239)
Yeah, from my EU IP address I could not visit the site, with US-provided IP from my VPN I could. I don’t understand why they would geofence it honestly but that’s how it is.

I’m currently on the “hacker” tier, no business use case for me at the moment.

I have been using cronitor[0] for a few months now and I have been really satisfied with them so far!

Re:Web scraping with Python open knowledge on Saturday May 28, 2022 @01:16AM (#31537796)
I recently transitioned one of my scraping projects away from selenium to playwright and I must say that the developer experience is way better, in my opinion.

I also implemented to receive a telegram message with the debug trace in case of errors in my pipeline, so that I could have the entire scraping flow to analyze. That’s pretty neat.
