Is it just me, or DDG really shows an image of a turd when searching for "Pontiac Aztec"? :D

Re:Colossal Holograms on Monday November 18, 2019 @07:55AM (#21563916)
Parent meant that it can't obscure the environment. E.g. you can't put your finger behind the cover of the compass in your image.

You would need a beefy machine to render 45 8k images per frame.
Re:Differentiable Programming Manifesto on Wednesday November 13, 2019 @04:40AM (#21522432)
So now everyone's pet project gets a language extension in Swift? Apple extended the language with @_functionBuilder for SwiftUI. Now Google wants to extend it with this differentiable stuff for TensorFlow.

Why won't they implement proper metaprogramming support instead of proliferating the core language?

Because you don't want to be the one whose team is lacking in agility on the next company all-hands meeting ;)

Why not have carrier executives install 5G base stations on their houses as a publicity stunt?

Sanctions aside, Iranian pistachios taste so much better.
Cauliflower ears are caused by the ear cartilage dying off and being replaced by fibrous scar tissue. That's definitely not cartilage overgrowth.

Agree. In my opinion, the proofs in that book are not so much about beauty, rather how one can prove seemingly complex stuff with surprisingly elementary tools.

Yep, it's confirmed with p = 0.049
Re:Vinyl set to outsell CDs for first time since 1986 on Sunday September 08, 2019 @01:37PM (#20911980)
I personally prefer buying FLAC from Bandcamp. It's the most artist-friendly option I'm aware of (and the most environmentally friendly too!). Some of them even include the same artwork in PDF that would be printed for the CD/vinyl edition.
Re:Vinyl set to outsell CDs for first time since 1986 on Sunday September 08, 2019 @01:32PM (#20911948)
This. Just give me FLAC with vinyl artwork in PDF.

Vinyl actually has less dynamic range than CD - it's the equivalent of around 12 bit dithered PCM.

False. He went missing a month before the bombings:

Now it depends on how b64key is sanitized.

Re:Debug Adapter Protocol on Thursday August 22, 2019 @06:29AM (#20766509)
That's... a very bad idea.

First of all, there's graphemes are inherently not one-to-one with code points, e.g. Á = A + `. There's simply no Unicode encoding that will let you safely index into an array without paying attention to the meaning of the underlying codepoints. (and no, using NFC won't solve this either, because there are combinations for which there's no composed equivalent)

Secondly, general formatting info won't fit into 11 bits (italic, bold, underline, strikethrough - that's already 4 bits, and we haven't talked about color, font weights other than bold, etc.), so why bother baking in a limited, intentionally gimped version into your character encoding?

W-what? I know some people swear that white noise makes them concentrate better, but forcing everyone to listen to white noise? Wtf. I'm not even sure that's legal from an occupational health & safety standpoint.

Hint: it's not actually "developers" per se, rather CEOs of data-siphoning companies.
Re:Watch a Drone Take Over a Nearby Smart TV on Friday August 16, 2019 @05:01AM (#20713362)
What data? - you ask. Let's see:

- audio recordings (smart TVs have microphones)

- photos of your living room (smart TVs have cameras)

- still images of TV content

- SSIDs of neighbouring WiFi routers for geolocation

- data from scanning nearby smart devices Bluetooth

- daily/weekly usage data

- data from scanning USB devices plugged into the TV (e.g. list of filenames from your pendrive / USB HDD)

Re:Watch a Drone Take Over a Nearby Smart TV on Thursday August 15, 2019 @11:49AM (#20706250)
Good luck with that. It will simply connect to a neighbouring open WiFi and transmit your data anyway :)
