Re:Ask HN: Why hasn't AI replaced Tax filing software on Friday October 09, 2026 @11:31AM (#50021985)
it's just a matter of time, such an obviously good use-case
what would happen if they supplement the IT team using AI to show them how to build better sandboxes. Do you think it would be a conflict of interest for the AI?

for now, but both model makers and hardware developers will work to get you to use models which are good enough to run on their devices without any special GPU requirements
nope, heard this for years and this time is no different
Re:Ask HN: Is this the beginning of the end of open source? on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @11:31AM (#49994262)
I publish and use more open source than I ever did in the past.
Re:Ask HN: Do you still own a printer? on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @11:30AM (#49994242)
we have a small black&white laser from Brother which the family use about once a week. It is very low cost and convenient. The one we have now replaced a larger model which had scanning and fax, but it's so easy to 'scan' with your phone now it's not really necessary and the machine is so much smaller because of it.

Re:40 years of writing code. I didn't see the end coming on Monday October 05, 2026 @08:47AM (#49964161)
>Worst of all, I no longer enjoy the satisfaction of solving hard problems on my own anymore.

This part resonates with me. I've found that the hard problems have simply moved elsewhere, there are still hard problems to solve.

I remember coding in assembly during my studies and I don't miss those days at all. Coding become more fun for me the less abstract it became. Now that we can code in natural language, my productivity has shot up and I've never had more fun.

Re:Management is forcing us to use AI on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @09:12AM (#49908466)
there are plenty of different ways to take this. You can use it as a supplement without making yourself dumber. Take the parts of your job you hate doing and inject a little AI into the workflow.

Re:Ask HN: What are people doing with their OpenClaw set ups now? on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @09:02AM (#49908345)
I moved on after every upgrade critically broke the setup and I had to spend time fixing it. Claude handles almost everything I need currently.
they talk about it like they have no power over it
I'd like to see him change the following:

1. Clean up the iPad range, Mini, Pro, Pro Max, Ultra 2. New range of home devices 3. High-end camera running something like iOS

no, you need to find a way to deal with it. Fight slop with less slop.

to be fair, the new models are far more efficient. Open weight models are eating their lunch though, they have to keep giving more to slow the exodus.
This incident feels like a marketing stunt. Any company with the skill to build a frontier-level model, also has the skill to contain it until it is ready to share.
