Or decency, empathy. Because of his actions, someone passionate about computers might not be able to purchase a computer even.

If I go check the largest computer shop in my country, it's adding general electronics now, and very few ram, GPU are available.

This is extremely bad. And this asshole says this. It's just infuriating

People using energy is waste, it should go to data centres, energy is limited by entropy, how dare people except Sam lives

Ugh, I bought my first Earl gray because of the captain. And I still love it. I'll drink one tonight to him.
Re:LLM Voice on Thursday October 29, 2026 @03:11PM (#50294307)
I never use LLM to write anything, but unfortunately now whenever I am writing something, I am worried, am I sounding like an LLM? Using certain words, makes me worry, it will make my writing like an LLM, so I have started to avoid some words in my writing.

I really don't like this timeline ... sigh

Re:Ask HN: What are you working on? (October 2026) on Thursday October 29, 2026 @06:00AM (#50286677)
I am building a minimalist note app for taking quick notes, simple UI, but still powerful enough for serious use.

It work as simple as a Text editor, while providing features of an advanced note taking apps.

My priority is, make writing the thought effortless, and add the context, while writing the note, and only if want to add it.

Notes in my app are just one line, but allows you to assign the context with To-Do, Projects and Tags, in that same line, or you can just add them later, you can do inline calculations too.

And then I made it faster to find notes too. You can filter your notes using contexts, drill down as much as needed, very quickly.

What makes this difference is, all are done from a single place, not spread throughout the UI, without fiddling with any fancy tree view, buttons, or menus.

You can check here: https://mtarin.com/projects/nift/ Also have a demo link there for anyone to try it out.

Re:Fixing Tool-Call Accuracy in vLLM on Monday October 26, 2026 @10:05AM (#50243933)
Correct me if I wrong, I saw this when llama.cpp or ollama initializes, it is used as token separator of some sort.
I tried that too, but it wasn't very good.
And unfortunately, these posts goes on frontpage, because AI, but no ai posts are largly ignored.
I have tried both. Merlin is best for bird watching. It does not ask to upload any data. Just start the recording, it listens and let me know what is the bird is. Done. It only uploads, IF I want it upload.
Re:Challenge Is Gone on Sunday October 25, 2026 @10:27AM (#50231949)
But these AI labs are not Linus. So, they'll just keep on gobbling up, but never give. And, all the new comers, are going to be a loser, to feed some billionaire.
Re:Reverse engineer of PC-98 Touhou games retires on Sunday October 25, 2026 @09:32AM (#50231400)
I am no one in anything, the thing is I love spending hours writing code, fixing some weird issue somewhere in the code, and then see it working as it intended. But now I can just put up some text and the whole thing is generated. Using my thoughts, the things I learnt, and applying them are not needed.

I can see there are still lot to do in the generated code, but I also feel something went away, Now I start working on it, and realize I'm reminded I just have to dictate what I need and it will be generated

It's like I have to pay for the best gun in the game to win, otherwise I can't just progress. Then why am I playing the game for?

Re:ThinkRail from JetBrains on Saturday October 24, 2026 @08:46AM (#50220753)
Unfortunately, This happens everywhere.

So many years I couldn't use Gnome properly because of an NVIDIA bug. We paid handsomely for our GPU, and they give a shit about us.

Re:ThinkRail from JetBrains on Saturday October 24, 2026 @08:10AM (#50220519)
Oh yes to that! It is also built in to IDEA, and It's just so good! I looked for other alternatives, but nothing comes close to their database tool. Works so well.
Re:ThinkRail from JetBrains on Saturday October 24, 2026 @08:09AM (#50220507)
Just to add another note, Initially I was a bit skeptic about their new UI. But, they have improved it a lot, and it's really good. Even though I hide most of the UI elements in favor of `double shift`
Re:ThinkRail from JetBrains on Saturday October 24, 2026 @08:04AM (#50220479)
I use only one, IntelliJ IDEA, which has all integrated, except Rider I believe.

It has full Rust, Java, Python, Web stack, things that I work with.

There were few issues here and there occasionally, but last few months I have not faced any issues, and it's been really robust. It gets slow with LLM providers running in the background on my 7 year old laptop though. But on desktop it flies.

Re:ThinkRail from JetBrains on Saturday October 24, 2026 @07:24AM (#50220231)
It's not nostalgia/pity. It's something I have use for.

And, also, it's kind of having a principle, my own. I have issues with corruption manifested by all of these AI corporations. It's an itch that I can't scratch, so I am trying my best to stay away from them.

It's not JetBrains is good and all. But, they're not worse, yet.

Re:ThinkRail from JetBrains on Saturday October 24, 2026 @07:18AM (#50220202)
Yeah! Refactoring, is already a solved problem, and deterministic with IDE (unless you have an untyped Python codebase), now we are reinventing the wheel, in more broken ways?

Want to add an additional parameter without creating a thousands of error? Change signature, Extract a part of code to another function? Extract Method.

People are taking these small, but extremely useful conveniences, without waiting, without paying for tokens, for granted.

Re:ThinkRail from JetBrains on Saturday October 24, 2026 @06:49AM (#50220028)
Yes, Junie, Air all got mixed up too much, and it was a bad decision to override some important keyboard shortcuts with Air too.

But, they still have a solid IDE, they just need to figure out what they can do without losing that edge.

I am all for experiments, that's where all the innovations comes from. But don't push VSCode bullshit on me. If I wanted to use that shit, I would use NVIM/Vim. But not VSCode.

Re:ThinkRail from JetBrains on Saturday October 24, 2026 @06:42AM (#50219975)
Yeah. Sometimes I have to go down to git cli, when I mess up really bad. But otherwise, nothing beats their VCS management UI, in my experience.
Re:ThinkRail from JetBrains on Saturday October 24, 2026 @06:38AM (#50219952)
You can pay a corporate that steals other's hard work without any consequences, $20/m at least. But can't pay another one that is actually putting up a respectable product for so many years, and you at least own it, even if you decided to stop paying?

I have been a paid user for 12+ years. Things got difficult more me this year, but I still renewed, because it's that important a tool for me. And, probably, this is just the hill I die on, owning something, that can't be whisked away at someone else's whim.

Obviously, they are still a corporate, but, until now they've respected me as a consumer unlike many other corporations. I value that.

They have their issues. But, which application does not?!

Their Git merge UI, is just top-notch. And keeps on improving I might use another coding agent, once JetBrain's credit runs out, but I review, and make all minor changes through the IDE

Project management is just a bliss.

Working with multi-language project? No IDE can manage this how good JetBrains does.

VIM binding is just so good, I don't miss VIM editor.

And the most important point is, they do not push something I do not want continuously. Don't want AI, turn it off, and it's not even there. My data is not being used to train some big LLM, or I am not counted as a product, is really important too.

Yeah, I hope they survive this messy shit, with the core that I have respect for. I hope they don't ruin that.

You can, two space at the start of each line

I have built a note taking, to-do application, what makes this different then others? This app targets to make note taking fun, and efficient. - Most important feature it's fast. Performance wise, and usage wise. It's a combination of convenient, clever (actually obvious) keyboard shortcuts, and focused optimizations to make it extremely simple to take notes fast. - This is completely hand...

Yes, this is good move. I am not getting why are people being up in arms, if they are getting fund from this, it will help improving Firefox, and resolve pain points the complainers have.

All in all good thing, why are they so mad.

Re:Solar Panels That Plug into Your Wall on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @05:10AM (#50068810)
Is it not almost similar to IPS? the device is charging through the power outlet, whenever the power is out, it's inverting and feeding power to the home. This exists for over 20+ years iirc? It works, and haven't heard of any incidents.
